Post hardcore and alternative metal had a lot of overlap in sonic structure, especially in the 90’s. These guys and Helmet sound pretty similar but they’re shoved into different genre labels
I saw them open for Helmet in Buffalo in the early 90's. Never heard of them before that. Their 40 minute set left me stunned and changed my life. They were THAT powerful live!
A few years ago I met a guy from NYC who was the manager for both Quicksand and Helmet in the ‘90s. I was surprised, because I guess I had always thought of the two bands as “rivals” or something. That was quite a fun conversation, as I was obsessed with both bands in the early to mid ‘90s. Only got to see Helmet live, though.
That must have been a great show. Helmet & these guys were my two favorite bands from that time. They were also pretty much the last bands I listened to. I still listen to them, but really nothing new since.
I was there! The Armory. One of the few times where the openers blew away the headliner. Quicksand still ranks as one of my favorite performances ever.
I saw that same tour at La Luna in Portland, OR. I think I was the only person I knew who actually cared about Quicksand... tragic stuff. During the Deftones set, Chino Morano jumped into the audience and crowdsurfed several hundred feet to the bar at the back, got a pint of beer, crowd surfed with the beer all the way back up to and on stage with it WHILE SINGING the entire time. Hell of a thing to see, ha ha!
Damn I’m from Buffalo and went to school with some of the snapcase guys. I knew they were pretty big on the hardcore scene but never would’ve guessed that quicksand opened for them at one point
This guy at work is always raving about “Tool this Tool that !”so I finally got a chance to play him some Quicksand while driving thru Manhattan around midnight ......he was dumbfounded he’d been missing out on Quicksand for over 25 years.....😅
Tool has nothing to do with Quicksand and vice versa. It just blows my mind that people think Quicksand and Tool sound the same. Both bands are great in their own way!

Life does nothing but test you. A true pass or fail is in front of me. I could use all the good vibes I can get

When I was like 14 going to see quicksand (opening for freaking white zombie weird I know!) Walter came up to me before the show wearing bicycle gear and asked me if their was a healthy restaurant around. I wouldn't say full on like Lance Armstrong apparel but definitely spandex shorts.... Then? I saw his band and was like WTF??? He is so hard-core for what he was wearing!!! I remember the first thing he said when the crowd pushed forward was "mosh politely "
It's got such am earlier Sparta Vibe and the guitar/singer Jim. Or Sparta first album was after this band a few years, whichever the case. Thats a compliment and tip.of the cap to both awesome sounds.
This album Slip was seminal, it change my life! Not to mention the other amazing bands these guy were in previous. The singer was in the Gorilla Biscuits, that's seminal NYHC!
Hadn't heard of this band before but after hearing the Burn the Priest cover (which is great) I came here to discover this great song. Will be giving Slip a go post haste!

I only got wind of them in 2002-3ish....listened slavishly, i had no idea it was decade old....yup...si influential...class act.
