For such a long time, we had planned and finally, by the end of October 2022, in November, just months before the earthquakes that shook us all, we were able to visit the magnificent places. A journey through history in ancient lands.
Day 1: Diyarbakır - The City of Walls
Our destination starts in Diyarbakır, known as the City of Walls due to its magnificent fortified ramparts. We explore the bustling bazaars, visit the iconic Hevsel Gardens, and take a leisurely stroll along the historic Tigris River. Archeology Museum and Zerzevan Castle.
    Day 2: Midyat's Architectural Marvels
We kick off our adventure by wandering through the labyrinthine alleyways of Midyat's Old Town, where every corner reveals a piece of history. The iconic stone houses, adorned with intricate carvings and ornate balconies, transport us back in time to a bygone era.
Today, we immerse ourselves in the rich cultural tapestry of Midyat, starting with a visit to the Mor Gabriel Monastery, one of the oldest Syriac Orthodox monasteries in the world. Here, we learn about the ancient traditions and customs of the Syriac community that has called Midyat home for centuries.
Ancient Roman Fortress City of Dara, nestled amidst the rugged landscapes of Southeastern Anatolia. Join me as we unravel the mysteries and marvels of this fascinating archaeological site.
Day 3: Unveiling the Timeless Charms of Mardin
We journey to the ancient city of Harran, famous for its beehive-shaped houses and rich history dating back to biblical times. We then continue our adventure to Mardin, a picturesque city perched on a hilltop overlooking the Mesopotamian plains.
Göbeklitepe: Unveiling the World's Oldest Temple. We delve into the heart of Göbeklitepe, marveling at the imposing T-shaped pillars that dominate the landscape. These megalithic structures, intricately carved with elaborate reliefs of animals and symbols, offer tantalizing clues about the beliefs and rituals of the people who built them over 12,000 years ago.
Balıklıgöl (or Pool of Abraham, Halil-Ür Rahman Lake), is a pool in the southwest of the city center of Şanlıurfa, Turkey known in Jewish and Islamic legends as the place where Nimrod threw Abraham into a fire.
    Day 4: Halfeti
Most of the villages were submerged in the 1990s under the waters behind the dam on the Euphrates at Birecik. Halfeti was the subject of an internet urban legend wherein the town was the only location on Earth where black roses grew.
Day 5: Mount Nemrut, TURKEY’S Mountaintop UNESCO World Heritage Site
In the heart of Central Anatolia, it will reward those who make the long journey to see it with evocative sunsets and sunrises over its stone sculptures and ‘Throne of the Gods’.
    Day 6: Gaziantep
The historical wonders of Gaziantep, including the imposing Gaziantep Castle and the fascinating Zeugma Mosaic Museum, are home to some of the finest mosaics in the world. We also indulge in a culinary feast, sampling local delicacies at the bustling markets.
    Day 7: The Tinus tunnel
The Vespasianus Titus Tunnel is an ancient water tunnel built for the city of Seleucia Pieria, the port of Antioch (modern Antakya), in the 1st and 2nd centuries AD.
    Day 8: Antakya- Hatay
UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE, Saint Pierre Church. It is a natural cave and has been converted into a church with additions. Although the exact date of construction is unknown; It is believed to be the place where St. Peter, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus, first preached and that the congregation in the cave first took the name ‘Christian’. That’s why St. Pierre Church is known as the first church of Christianity. With the acceptance of St. Peter as the first Pope, it became a center in the spread of the Catholic faith to the world.
