I think the mistake may have come from the anime, since they did get at least one or two Normal-types mistaken to be a Ground-type. Also, personal story, Dunsparce was the first full odds Shiny that I have ever caught. I caught it in Pokémon Black one day out of luck.
2:15 it's based off the cryptid "tsuchinoko" a type of snake like being that lives in japan, it has the body shape of a snake but with a fat mid section
Dunsparce is one of the two Pokemon that I never managed to register to my pokedex when I was a kid in Gold. I knew where to find it, but I was never lucky enough to encounter it, so I gave up eventually. The other one was Octillery. Since there was no trainer encounter with it (that I know of), there was just a blank in the dex and I just had no reason to train a Remoraid. And since I didn't had a friend who got one either, with no access to the internet at the time. I never completed my pokedex :D
I gotta give you one quick tip with FRLG runs. On one of the routes north of nugget bridge, the tm for Secret Power can be found. It is REALLY good this early on, and would’ve been even better on Dunsparce because of serene grace. 70 base power, 20 PP. You can get it right after nugget bridge if you encounter the camper blocking it as low as possible, letting you slip past. It’s similar to return, in that almost anything can learn it
I really hope Dunsparce gets some love in Scarlet/ Violet and gets an evolution. The beta dunsparce evolution wae interesting. As was how different Dunsparce was before they settled on its current version.
When you run specs dunsparce on low ladder showdown you can always get something out of it lol, fire blast ice beam thunderbolt + special move of your choice is like the most hillarious thing ever if it did something. Even a trolly max speed thunder wave+flinching moves set is quite fun. Love dunspace
When I first played the gen 2 games, I thought it was a ground type as well but quickly discarded it after I discovered it was normal typed with weak level up moves. I was surprised by how good it's coverage was in this generation, but I also expected it to win at a lower level as well. It seemed like Agatha was the big problem.
I did a solo Eevee run in Leaf Green recently and soon after realized there wasn't any video about it on RUclips. I'd love to see your take on it. Hopefully you can beat it at a lower level than me (lvl. 92). Also, here's a tip about FRLG : it's pretty easy to win at the slots machine, even by just mashing A. You can max out in 20 min if you're paying attention. Sometimes it's really easier than waiting to get enough money.

When I first encountered a Dunsparce as a kid I thought it was rock type, because I found it with by smashing a rock (the only other pokemon I had found this way back then was geodude - a rock type) and I think I also used rock smash on it and it was super effective, so until I caught one I was under the impression that it's a rock type. Fun little anecdote on the topic of "what type did you think Dunsparce is?"
So, FYI, Dunsparce is a physical attacker. In Gen 3, you want to use physical attacking moves. While yes, return is good, headbut with a quick claw can mean a flinch whish is better. Defense curl and rollout is one of the best combos for Dunsparce period. If you wanted an easy win against most of the pokemon, you just roll with it, pun intended. Dig or earthquake would be super useful. While yes, thunderbolt and icebeam are good for a better chance of causing freeze/paralyze, you aren't using them enough if you wanted to run them nor are you using a beneficial item to make use of them. I did a Dunsparce only run of Heartgold and beat red mostly using defense curl + rollout. when you are able to get all hits in, it can OHKO most pokemon, and in a game wheresteel types are far and few between, it is your best moves to use, with headbut/return and something to cause a status or coverage if possible. Overall, good run. I would recommend looking over the pokemon one more time before you commit to using certain moves in Gen 3 since gen 4 has the physical/special split.
Starting this video, I thought to myself "Yes. Next question." My favorite Pokemon is Dunsparce and I insisted to my bf that it's pretty good actually so he one time ran a "only one Dunsparce" run of a Pokemon Crystal rom and while taking a nap, he felt the need to wake me up to tell me that he beat the fighting type gym with only the one Dunsparce. Another issue with people not knowing Dunsparce's typing is almost no trainer in the whole series uses it and it is really hard to find
Looks like it's pretty...sparse!
When I first saw Dunsparce I thought it was a ground type so you're not the only one Mah Dry
Ice beam freezing is pretty cool... yes sir, you did it again

Dunsparce burrows underground using the Drill on its Tail when in Danger.
Waited 2 years for this challenge!! Thank you MDB!! 🔥🔥🔥
I always think that he's bug and ground.
Oh snapple dapple!!! Gen 2 with Ratata!?!? Damn dude!!! Can't wait!!!
snapple dapple is the best combination of words i've heard in my entire life
@@PogChimp hahaha thanks 🙂 wish I could take full credit, but I got the expression from old Let's Game It Out videos lol Josh's former partner, Anthony, would say it and it kinda stuck with me lol
Didn't know Dunspare was normal type before this video, I too assumed it was a bug type, but honestly if I was told it was ground I'd believe it
Look at it. It's not a land snake. "It's a Japanese mythology-" NO! NO IT IS NOT! IT HAS STRIPES, LITTLE WINGS, BIG EYES, AND A STINGER TAIL! IT'S A BEE!!!!
Missed the live! I was out fishing. Thank you for another fantastic video MDB. I appreciate everything you do!
Shoulda named him autobot...because rollout...
Anyway can you do a heracross only run?
When i was about 6 i got silver version, and I always tried getting through that cave when it was all dark, and i got into the trend of running from all the geodudes and zubats, suddenly i saw that dunsparse and i ran, and then spent hours trying to find one again
Excited for next week's challenge!
YES! I LOVE DUNSPARCE!
Me and a friend were playing pokemon Crystal, and were going to use the Pink Bow Ursurang, but I got tired of looking for one and grabbed a Dunsparce. We later battled each other after the Elite Four, and DUNSPARCE WON AGAISNT THE URSURANG
You should do positive or negative priority only for positive maybe gen 6 for water shuriken idk what gen for negative priority have a good day mdb
Dunsparce is such a great Pokémon that always gets slept on, glad to see it get its day.
Always loved Dunsparce, wish it had some extra love, like an evolution or something. Although, I do love it as it is. Great video!
I thought for sure that Dunsparce was a bug type. Or maybe bug/rock. Ground makes sense too. But normal? Ok then...
I also thought it was a ground type Pokemon. I guess the fact that you had to rock smash to find one in gen 3 games, kinda helps this misconception
Dunsparce is my second favorite pokemon right after shuckle. I love this video and your shuckle only run
Requesting Pokemon B2W2 with Only One Chinchou.
Ah yes, the mighty combination of fire blast and flame wheel. Flame Blast 12:52
You got your wish :3
Calling Gyarados "Water Onyx" is the most disrespectful thing I have ever heard. Love it.
DON'T DO IT, MAN! Youngster Joey is in a league of his own! You have sooooooooooo much to live for.
Always think I'll get bored of these but nope. Every week. Here I am.
Thank you for doing a challenge with my favorite single stage mon, Dunsparce finally gets some love!
YES FINALLY
I recommended it a few times and I'm glad it's finally here
I love Dunsparce and I'm totally hoping it gets some love in Scarlet/Violet! But I definitely always think it's ground type! Every time!
Water Onix took me a full minute to process. Great first impression for my first video from you
Seriously, because of time difference I always come late to your videos.
But THANK YOU for telling me what fossil you took, I was really curious about it.
Before today I could have sworn Dunsparce was a bug type lmao
That makes sense
@@brianchan8 Look at it. It's not a land snake. "It's a Japanese mythology-" NO! NO IT IS NOT! IT HAS STRIPES, LITTLE WINGS, BIG EYES, AND A STINGER TAIL! IT'S A BEE!!!!
We're finally getting a sequel to the very first Pokémon Challenge MDB made with next week's challenge!
What about a Denio run or with the line? Slow to level up. A bug, ice, dragon gym, and fighting type e4 member to face. And it has hustle so that’ll be fun
Denio is gen 6 run would be amazing
@@petercross1879 it’s gen 5
He doesn't like doing gen 5 runs because of the level system. And a slow leveler would just make it worse.
Automatically love this video just because of Dunsparce. They are my favorite pokemon.
Starting this video, I thought to myself "Yes. Next question."
My favorite Pokemon is Dunsparce and I insisted to my bf that it's pretty good actually so he one time ran a "only one Dunsparce" run of a Pokemon Crystal rom and while taking a nap, he felt the need to wake me up to tell me that he beat the fighting type gym with only the one Dunsparce. We've been together for 15 years now. Thank you Dunsparce.
