Excellent tutorial of the filter press. As a small producer I have no experience with using one but can easily understand the advantages of the features you highlighted. But I'm wondering about the air requirements for operating the diaphragm pump? Specifically air purity and cfm. Otherwise I'm sold on the stainless construction. versus aluminum or plastic.
Very good description. I suggest you add a spout to the drip tray to allow the producer to drain any excess leakage. Always a good idea to keep pets (cats) away from maple equipment and in most jurisdictions it's actually a requirement.
Thank you Bill. I understand that pets are not allowed in a commercial Maple syrup production facility, and that this is while syrup is being produced. However, we do not sell our Maple syrup. We produce a couple hundred gallons per year and it's mainly to test our equipment and expose the public to the process of maple syrup. We also make Maple syrup for fun, which makes it even more important to have the family there (pets). All of our syrup is given away to the public and to our employees. With that said, we hold extremely high standards for our syrup and are very proud of it.
Hi Bill, Thanks for the feedback. We don't add a valve to the drip tray because it slides right out from under the plates. It's super easy to pull the tray out and pour any drippings back to your starting pan. That being said, we would be more than happy to customize your drip tray for you if that is what you desire. Smoky Lake Maple Products I didn't want to appear to be critical but did point it out for future videos to avoid others getting the idea that it was acceptable in all cases. This is a great video and a detailed explanation of the operation of a filter press is needed and welcome! Thanks for taking the time to put this together.
