You sold me! I’m buying that press for this next season. Good video!
You will love it for sure!
I tried it on my maple syrup bottle just now, and it worked!!!!! Thank you so much, you have saved my struggles!!!
No problem. Glad I could help!
Very helpful video. Thank you! This is the simplest filtering/bottling method I have seen on the internet. Some things I like that others use/do is…
-Murphy compensation cup.
-The 8gallon pot with the draw fitting at the bottom
-bottling fitting attachment (maybe you could attach a bottling draw elbow fitting to the vacuum filter press)
-Tom from SE Michigan
Thank you so much Tom. I am glad I could help out! Very appreciative of the suggestions, I will definitely look into them. I am always looking for ways to improve my processes! Thanks again!!!
Awesome job, Keep tappin away 👏
Thanks Phillip! We are doing our best here on the farm this year! Crazy weather for making maple syrup for sure.
Awesome video folks, if use find or build a double boiler for your vac filter it slows things down and you can control the temperature in your vessel easier avoid scorching. Love the use with de I'ma try that...
Thank you so much. Yes the de really makes for a super clear syrup. This year I just added the same amount to the whole batch right before I transfer to the vacuum filter press and it seams to work better than making a slury.
Thanks for the video Eric, what grade filter cloth do you use, 1 micron, 5 micron?
I'm not positive but I think it's a 5
This is Great! I like the simplicity of the cone filter, but I do not like how sometimes it will be super clear and other times it looks like I didn’t even filter. Your syrup looks great!
Yeah we really like it. Using the filter aid is a game changer, the syrup looks crystal clear so far. Candice said that the clean up was a lot easier as well, took less time than the standard cone filter. Now I just have to put more syrup through it to recoup some of my investment.
@@GagneFarms a lot more!
You should pre heat your hydrometer before using.
That was awesome. Yall made it look so easy.
Did you even have to turn on the propane heat?
Sometimes it nice to have it real low incase it cools down. But if you bottle it fast enough it doesn't ever really get below 180°
Great to see this in action. I've been eyeing Smoky Lake's version. How much is this one?
Thank you!
I have a link to the website for this vacuum filter press in the video description. I am not an affiliate though just so you know. I just checked the website and this model is going for $741.34. It was a bit cheaper a few years ago when I purchased it. I do have to say that this filter press is definitely worth the money, we would recommend this to anyone looking for a quality vacuum filter press.
Your bottom line on the hydrometer is for a cold test of usually 60° the top line is hot test, usually 211°. If you bring it past the top line at a higher temperature your density is going to be off.
Yeah that's what I did this year. I took it to the top line and pulled it.
Nice job 👍
I am thinking of getting one so thanks for the video seriously looking at them right now
I would definitely recommend one if you are filtering a large quantity of syrup. It has been a few weeks and the syrup is still crystal clear!
cant wait for the 2022 season. i think 2 more weeks and we will start the run in upstate NY
Me either! I think we are about 2-3 weeks out here as well. It's going to come quick!
I maybe wrong. But with a filter press you are suppose to stir the DE into the whole batch that’s filtered not just the first batch. DE bonds to the dirt particles. Not sure if this is suppose to work the same way?
I am sure that would work as well. I just did it the same way that Roth Sugarbush showed how to use it. I don't see why mixing it with the whole batch would not work. I may try this method in the future. Thanks for the recommendation for sure!
With any kind of filter press the de coats the filters that's what you're trying to achieve once the filter is coated you're just wasting de
I would save yourself some time and put the de powder in the whole batch
Wish you were my neighbor 😂
Haha. I am your youtube neighbor! Lol
I’ve watched many maple syrup videos but yours are the best! May I ask what kind of lids you use and how it seals?
Thank you very much. We use a flip top lid that has a seal in it. When we lay the bottles on the side the heat from the syrup makes the seal stick to the bottle. You can look at the bottles and lids we use at rothsugarbush.com. I hope this helps.
Great video
How long did it take to vacuum the two gallons through the filters ?
Did you have to clean filters during the vacuum proses ?
Thank you so much. It probably took a minute or two to filter almost 2 gallons of syrup. I did not clean the filters during the vacuuming process. I am going to link my video here below of last years filtering process that has a couple more tips that really help out the process.
ruclips.net/video/ElWznEzdtoQ/видео.html
Thank you so much
Hot syrup test on hydrometer should be at the top line.
I have the same filter and will be using it for the first time. How do you no how much syrup to safely put in without overfilling before you draw off?
I think we got almost 2 gallon in it. Not sure I would put much more in it before you draw off. You would probably want to change the filter at that point as well.
Is that a 9” or a 12” vacuum press
Hey Paul, this is the 9" vaccum filter press.
