1:40 - "Let's learn about tapping trees" **gunshot in the background**
Us - Well that's one way to start the lesson.
😳🤣🤣 what can I say I live In the country!
great videos all of them! and this is probably your most amazingly beautiful you look here but always looking beautiful but this video is the mic drop! keep up the great work!
You are photogenic and have a VERY smooth delivery so would make a great TV news anchor.
Jojn tha club I suck at math thank you for the great information and another chance to see your beautiful smile
Thanks for watching Gene!
Very informative, I had no idea you could put multiple taps on a tree; and the other facts you shared. You have a very pleasant video personality, thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much for watching and also for the beautiful flowers!
You are doing a wonderful job Niki
Thank you! Sometimes I wonder if my informational videos are boring!
@@MapleFarmer My pleasure. It's perfect!
Thanks for connecting people with their food. As a dairy farm hand I find that many people have no idea about how their food is produced and processed...no matter what kind of food it is, but especially if it's plant based.
Thank you so much for the Video!! enjoy them so much.
Thank you for watching!
The long history of your family is awesome 👍👌🇺🇸
Thank you so much! I am hoping that maybe I can find some old photos and make a family history video!
Love the videos. Very informative. You are a great ambassador for maple farmers.
Thank you for the kind words Jim!

So good to see you after a good rest and some sleep. You have your enthusiasm and beauty back again.
What are you talking about? She's gorgeous even on her worse day! LOL!
Great video as always!!!
Thank you for sharing!!!
Thanks for watching!
I've been watching and subscribed since you were referenced on NYFG. You've given me a lot of respect for what goes into harvesting and producing syrup. Keep up the great videos and explanations. 👍😎
Thank you so much! Sometimes idk if I’m being too informational or not enough! 😂
Thanks for taking the time to explain! We need to always keep the knowledge of how to grow and process our food.
I'm excited to share my journey with home gardening this summer - and hopefully everyone can give me tips and tell me how to improve!
Ima tap that like button 😎
Hope you have a great season
I enjoyed you showing some tap holes the first one next to your finger in between the bark you could see the growth the tree was putting on last year healthy tree some of the other tap holes kind of look like their butterflying that's another sign of fast growing healthy trees
Good video! Very informative!
Thanks for watching Perry!
We here in northeast Michigan it's coming to the end for sap
Same here. Will be finishing up this weekend
Thank you for helpful information. And your end product is fantastic !! Love your packaging and with a lovely note from the family just puts the cherry on top always a pleasure learning about the process 😊
Thank you so much for tuning in and for choosing to support our family business! We appreciate you!
Great video!
Thanks so much!
You should make a video explaining the difference between all the maple trees so people will be able to tell what a suger maple looks like
That is on my list of videos to make once we finish boiling!
Thanks for the video I really appreciated it. Iike I said before I have learned so much about how you all are making syrup. Great job to you and your family please stay safe
Thank you so much for following along!
Awesome video well done
Super cool information, love learning about this. It’s funny too see snow on the ground, it was 90 degrees here in Texas on Monday this week, that is not our normal but it’s funny to see the difference in weather. Thanks for sharing!
Excellent video. I always knew you were a tree hugger. Ha ha. I measure trees the same way. If fingers touch then only one tap. Yes; big crown = lots of Leafs = higher sugar. If we have a line running next to a Red (soft) Maple we tap it.
Love your energy and strength how passion you are when it comes to the maple trees and their secrets. ❤🕯
Awesome video. Thank you.
Hey Niki love your Channel can you show us your bottling process
🇺🇸 Always enjoy your videos, please don't feel you're running low on content. 👍😃
Sadly have not one maple on the property. But I know where my maple is coming from from now on
wow Awesome,,hey how long do you get Syrup out of the tree be for it stop for the year,,,,thanks Sweetheart
Only a few weeks
Nikki, my wife and I just discovered your channel and we enjoy it immensely. You do an excellent job of narrating and conveying your knowledge of the maple syrup process. In the opening of this video you said that you tap primarily maple trees and we are wondering what other tree species that you tap in your syrup making process. Thanks again for the videos. Keep them coming. Richard
We only tap maples specifically sugar maples!
Nice info Nikki😂
👍👍
Great video Nikki, I could follow this up with a whole other video of the tapping sins that I've seen while out leak checking our bush. Taps directly above/below or within an inch on either side of old holes, below the lateral, kinked drops, upside down spials. I shake my head sometimes and have been keeping a photo folder of the silly things I find for training purposes.
I was wondering if you find yourself having to do on-the-fly filter paper changes or do you normally make it through a full boil on one set?
That’s a great idea as I have seen a lot
Mind doing a personal history of each of the family members? Are there any members that didn’t go into maple surprise? Thank you.
Yes I wanted to do a mystery sisters video while my other sisters were home but they didn't want to film anything! lol
First time I saw maple syrup farmers was on the east coast and they had the spires (?) with a hook and a bucket back when I was a kid this is kinda new to see the tubing. What’s the difference between the two? I assume it keeps the syrup protected?
I would be interested in seeing how you identify a sugar maple. I have several maple trees but I’m not sure which specific species they are.
Look :la semaine vert ,les mathématiques au service de l’acériculture !
You Tube
Nikki do you remove all the taps every year
Yes we do!
Great Channel !! Working on a Maple farm looks to be physical, What do you do to stay in shape ? Keep up the great content
Workout but also work on the farm!
Thank for talking sap👍
1" = 2.54cm for those that are wondering
Would the tree heal faster if you put a plug in it after removing the tap? If one doesn't already exist, maybe you could invent a maple tree healing wood plug. Best wishes.
Have to ask, what color is your syrup this year?? Is it dark or light? We're light up here. K
We have made golden, amber and dark
Our run this year was short. We had a huge wind storm last week and a low come in. That pretty much ended it. Great channel I love your "sugar shack" lol
Is there actually other types of trees that are tapped besides maples? Or for other uses besides syrup?
Just wondering, I realize that people have probably been tapping trees for centuries. But have there ever been any actual modern scientific studies that would show what depth and height are optimal for taps?
Does angle of the spout matter when tapping?
For a guy that wants to hang only about twenty buckets to collect maple sap, how long will the sap stay fresh hanging on the side of the tree if the temperatures never reach 40 degrees Fahrenheit? I mean if it takes a week to collect a total of 5 gallons of sap, will the sap start going bad at some point during that week that you should have collected and boil down the sap more often? And, is there a big difference in the taste of the maple syrup when it's boiled down over an open wood fire (by a couple of guys sitting around drinking beer stoking the fire at 2 am on a Saturday morning) verses boiling it down on your wife's brand new electric stove in your nice warm kitchen?
How do you keep the deer from tearing up your lines when they run through the woods?
Do those tap spouts have a little air inlet to allow air to flow that fluid to the collector?
no, we try to make sure everything is completely sealed.
@@MapleFarmer My engineering mind inquires, how does the sap flow back to the vacuum source if the tap spouts are sealed to the tree? It's like sucking through a straw with the other end sealed. I guess I'm missing something.
How do you clean your plastic lines?
Do you take all the lines down ? Or Do you leave them up year around?
They stay up year round
Do animals such as Moose or Deer ever break the lines?
I went shopping today. Was n the need for syrup. I was wondering if you could answer why some are thin and runny, others are thicker. Thanks.
Look at the ingredients. Real maple syrup has only 1 ingredient -maple syrup! The others are frauds!
What is highest# of taps you put in a tree?
I tried this when I was growing up (1960s) and was mildly frustrated by how little syrup I got from 5 gallons of sap. 🤣 What is your usual sap/syrup ratio?
anywhere from 40-63 gallons of sap to one gallon of maple syrup
What kind of editing software do you use.
the cheapest kind... iMovie 😂
@@MapleFarmer I've been thinking about getting into RUclips more and have a great rest of your season.
What’s your average sugar content??
How much maple sap does it take to make 1 gallon of maple syrup.
It takes about 41 gallons of sap to produce one gallon of syrup.
@@Bearairj thank you, I figured it took a lot of sap but I never figured it took that much.
Hi Nikki! New subscriber here! Don’t have any idea how I came across your channel but I’m so glad I did! There’s nothing better than pure maple syrup and all the local farmers that produce it. You’re a great spokesperson for your family farm and the industry in general. Keep the great videos coming!
Thank you so much for the kind words Gary!
I can't wait to taste some of you syrup. I'm always looking for high quality maple syrup for my beer recipes!
I want to experiment with maple beers this summer!
On some of my trees that I’ve tapped for many years I’ve tried tapping below the lateral lines and it’s worked well as long as there’s good vacuum.
