I love him but right now he feels really squishy and I hope he gets some help. The other melees are just better. They've got the core components there in his kit, I just think some things need bumping. Either damage goes up or his survivability goes up. At the minute he's pretty underwhelming in both categories - but got damn I find him really fun on raw kit alone.
@@FlareIsGone I feel like if he got passive out of combat regen or potentially lifesteal on his mitigation cooldown and/or CD reductions on the mitigation cooldown, it would help him a lot but not be OTT. He's a barrel of a character model as well so hitting him isn't hard for the opponents. Current healing factor implementation just can't stop him from turning into a puddle of cheese during a fight. All it takes is a Hela to ping him once and you're already having to potentially run away from the fight to get topped up. Given his lore has always been he's an unstoppable unit that can't die, Iron Fist is more Wolverine than Wolverine is in Rivals rn.
I don’t mind Wolverine’s damage so far, I def think it’s his survivability & lack of defence that needs work. He should for sure be able to passive heal (same with Hulk tbh). The cooldown feels kinda long on a couple of his abilities too
Honestly should be a tank. That’s how he’s always been described in the comics. Daredevil once described wolverine as a slab of meat attached to a lead pipe, and not a person who flinches in pain. And don’t give me that shit about being too fast and aggressive for a tank, are we forgetting venom.
In my personal experience, Wolverine plays a lot like a DPS Doomfist. You engage with your team or flank the opposing team, jump in to grab someone out of the fight and single them out, completely beat the living crap out of them, and then leave. His mouse 2 is his best mobility ability, since the cooldown is only 3 seconds, his shift should be used when you are close to someone, so you can grab them and carry them with you out of the fight and take them out, usually you want to go after a support or a half hp tank. Wolverine does really well against melee characters, since they are forced to be nearby you, and that's when you are at your most dangerous, he dos struggle a lot against aerial characters though, since he has no skill that would help him reach them, besides maybe leapin onto them from a high ground or M2ing towards them when they ar low heath, but, to leap them you would need some mobility tool which Wolverine only has his M2. In short, i'd say he is a good character, not the best pick, but also by far not the worst, if you can team him up with a magneto who bubbles him so he can use his healing factor to regain hp after slashing someone, or a Hulk who shields him for the same effect, you basically have a tiny tank on your team that deals a lot of damage. If i had to give a combo for people to use with him it would be: M2 into thing you want dead, Shift, E, Hold M1 until thing is dead, M2 out.
I agree, I think alot of people are just playing him wrong. probably the most technical character in the game, at least imo. he could def use a buff on his leap tho, I only hit the move once on accident when Jeff tried to spit me off the map 😭.
Yeah, he feels pretty bad. Definitely fun when you can stick to your opponent, but this happens not even half the time you jump on a enemy. Heavily countered, the game and characters are too fast for him considering he has to be on your face to do any sorts of damage. The leap feels clunky. I belive he needs a buff (better movement speed and burst damage OR better survivability and croudcontrol)
Glad I'm not the only one who thought this. I played for 10 straight matches and just didn't see his strength. He feels like he's supposed to flank and dive, but his ttk against even a squishy target feels longer than Iron Fist. Also, Feral Leap is just far too inconsistent to reliably displace enemies.
Wolverine just is too clunky and linear. He is tanky but not a tank that supports the team. If he dives, he can miss very easily and he has no way out. A lot of mobility and flyers just destroy him. With how op all the characters are in this game, Wolverine kinda falls to the bottom. I think he only really works as a bodyguard for snipers or support on his team. If he doesn’t get the berserk claws, he really just does ok damage. The dash is also pretty short.
@youngdolph8867 I use this method too the problem is how long it takes to engage in battle without it and how little value you get due to the ability just being bad
They really should have just made him a tank with out of combat regen. Make his Ult a Monster-Hulk style temporary transformation where he goes Berserker Rage, gets a damage boost and enough regen to force the enemy to focus on him. Logan hits hard sure, but his whole thing is supposed to be someone who could take anything thrown at him and get right back up for more. Making him a squishy DPS that doesn't even do good damage just doesn't feel right.
Wolverine is a terrible character in this game due to low movement speed, poor DPS, a subpar hitbox, and a lack of sustain for this type of moveset. The passive ability has an excessively long cooldown; the developers should consider adding lifesteal instead.
@@FlareIsGoneHe was originally a tank based on the information that was datamined from the beta build, and you can see that in how his kit is literally just a Tank’s kit. Imo they should have left him as a tank.
lifesteal is a balancing nightmare for every single pvp game out there. I'd rather not rework a character's core kit on 3 days of launch opinions, number tweaking on cooldowns and such would be more than enough.
His survivability & lack of defence needs work, I thought passive healing would be a no brainer for Wolverine but I guess not (Hulk should get it too). The cooldown feels kinda long for his roar & leap abilities also. That said he’s still fun to use & I love shredding enemies as him, there’s definitely a learning curve to his play style but I still hope they adjust his survivability bit more.
As THE lieast mobile melee character in the game, wolverine deserves more sustain/regen. You cant expect enemies too have 0 flyers AND your supports to heal you constantly. Its too much external factors, especially when ironfist exists and he can magnet to flyers beathing the crap out of them AND he can self heal to full.
I LOVE Wolverine. He is my main and I can get team wipes with him. The only issue is, 90% of the time, your waiting for everything to line up, but that 10% of time that it does, you are The Wolverine for 15 seconds and its worth it.
Wolverine's primary fire damage is dependent on a calculation. The calc is 15 base damage + 1.5% of the targets max HP + 0.045% per point of rage. The buffed primary fire after performing Feral Leap reduces the damage of each slash to 6 but attacks roughly 6 times per second. The calc for this primary fire is 6 base damage + 1% of the target's max HP + 0.035% per point of rage. Tanks are usually very big with large hitboxes making them easier to build rage off of and have very high max health. The strat with Wolverine is to sneak behind the tank, get up close, and use Feral Leap to steal them over to your team to melt them. As Wolverine, 80% of your attention should be on the tanks.
When I started with him I wasn’t a big fan but once I learned right click to get in close then feral leap and then rage slash. Boy oh boy did I start deeestroying people. Duelist, Strategist, Vanguard, it didn’t matter, I wrecked them
8:30 what’s crazy is that Hawkeye has that passive that lets him (and black widow) follow and shot at peoples’ after shadow and like… that feels like something Wolverine could’ve gotten too.
Then he can't have berserker fury and heat claws those are wolverine's most underrated ability. Heat claws and berserker fury significantly weakened his healing factor in lore. As rivals style they like to give uncommon things a chance.
On the marvel rivals website they have a compendium of all the characters abilities with much more detail than in-game. his howl is a 50% dmg reduction for 5 secs, so pretty strong. All of his attacks deal % max HP dmg which makes him one of the best characters for killing tanks next to likes of hawkeye, scarlet witch, and the punisher. so I actually reccomend using his abilities to kidnap tanks so that you can burst them down with ur team and when you pressure squishies you just want them to waste cooldowns on you and leap out.
Yeah, I’ve been playing him constantly and I’ve already found that out but it still doesn’t help you when you’re getting bicked down by the entire enemy team bc you have to play so much closer then any other character. I appreciate you telling people more about his abilities but that doesn’t mean that people use him wrong, just means that he’s weak for how close range he is. Think about it; 50% reduction for 5 secs? 50% of 1000 damage is still going to kill you just not as fast. From what I’ve seen he’s a fish out of cold water and in a hot desert from my multiple hours on him so far.
He's Wolverine he should have a passive regeneration, I think it should be effected based on his Berserk bar. There should be charges on his leaps and lunges. Slightly buff his damage or add a knockdown on his 3rd hit. Right now it gets shutdown by anyone with a half a brain and heals. But I'm biased, cause he's the Best There Is at what he does
7:49 I dint think you know what you’re talking about. Wolverine should have high damage, high durability but low manoeuvrability because of the heaviness of his skeleton.
Some of the things said here were wild to me. Like iron fist being just a shutdown to wolverine. That's like one of the fairest fights in the game. That 1v1 is just straight timing and mind games. They have the same attack damage at base and while IF has faster base attack speed wolverine has higher base health, so whoever baits the defensive cooldown usually wins, so you have to get him to use his defense first before you shout. And if he lunges you can leap on him and if you time it right, since he auto locks on to you, its very hard for wolvie to miss. Its an even dual that may seem lopsided because of IF's ease of use. But i promise you he's not a straight up counter. Now if you see scarlet witch, you probably have to switch.
@FlareIsGone you don't do negative damage. Your damage is actually comparable as you do more in a single hit than him but he hits faster. You both have a flurry. His comes with his defense cooldown so once he guards you know he has it. That's when you shout to block the dmg, because it last just as long. Once he doesn't have it up leap. Even if you miss now you have your flurry advantage. Its all mind games and cooldowns. But of course, if he catches you with your pants down your cooked.
I think maybe if they made it so that if you hit the dash and claw, it reduces the cooldown on his pounce and howl by X second(s) if it lands. It would reward him for getting stuck in, but still keep him somewhat reigned in if he uses his abilities poorly.
