    I love Koa, it's magnificently beautiful and brings forth some magical resonances. I need to get mine from safe storage where a few of my treasures went after a major disaster of a house fire. My Koa guitars include a Yairi classic nylon string, a Hamer Custom shop double cut, dual humbuckers, and a stellar beauty of my GMP Pawnshop Special.

      Koa really is wonderful! So sorry to hear of the fire, glad you were able to rescue some things!

    This is a great video! I bet opening those boxes is like opening Christmas gifts when it's not Christmas. I love koa. Koa is one of the most beautiful tonewoods to look at, and the sparkly tones are just delightful. I am looking forward to seeing what you do with the curly set that you purchased.

    I’ve just discovered your channel and love it! I started learning the acoustic guitar a few months ago and have a bit of a woodwork fascination so your channel is pretty much perfect for me 😂 I’m looking forward to working my way through some past videos

    Lol what a naughty video Tom😉 Jerry Garcia would of approved of this imo as I’m pretty sure there’s a video floating about of Jerry being interviewed on a boat in Hawaii with him mentioning something about a sustainable source of Koa. I reckon captain trips would of owned and played a Tom Sands guitar were he around today? He seemed to be using the Japanese Alvarez made guitars instead of the equivalent Martins of the nineties

    The only word that comes to mind is gorgeous! They are all fantastic, but I must say sets 2, 9, and 12 are absolutely stunning. Tom, is it true that Koa tends to take a longer time & more playing to provide a more mature sounding instrument or is that just a myth? I would think the huge variable would be the quality of the Top set the Koa is matched with.
    Thanks - this was a fantastic video.

      From my experience, I would say that’s a myth. The top wood is so important, you’re quite right. Glad you enjoyed the video, cheers!

    Can't blame you on claiming set 12, that figure is gorgeous. It makes me wonder, though, I don't think I've ever seen the other crotch figure used in an instrument, the feather figure from where the limbs join. Is that wood somehow unusable?

    • @TomSandsGuitars
      @TomSandsGuitars  Год назад

      I’m not entirely sure what you mean but if the wood is well seasoned, I don’t see why it couldn’t be used

    • @abydosianchulac2
      @abydosianchulac2 Год назад

      Oh, in the actual crotch between tree limbs, the grain forms an overlapping pattern some say resembles a bird feather, from the limbs and trunk growing new cambium at sightly different times. A Google search can show some good examples, but I can't be blamed for what the algorithm thinks of you after searching for "feather crotch wood."
