He had me hooked with his acting in just that movie and when I watched the Sopranos, my mind was blown, which also made his untimely passing even more bitter for me at the time as everyone said he was such a nice guy and had great acting abilities.
Wow man, the opening line... same here! I FINALLY watched it because of the quarantine and wow it definitely met and even exceeded the hype! Such a unique performance by Gandolfini, I feel like I could rewatch it again already.
I remember that day in June 2013 when I heard he had passed and my stomach actually hurt. Jim is one of those people I considered invincible, he never should have died at 51. A humble, generous, and kind man not to mention an incredible actor. May he RIP.
Sopranos will forever be out there as this most unique piece of art television was ever able to create. There will never be the kind oportunities they had in the late nineties before the internet took over, to create characters with so much depth, this kind of long meandering storytelling and even the visual style will forever be unmatched. Sopranos is the one thing i'm trying to stay away from to happily come back to in a couple of decades later, to relive it again.
Man I watch Sopranos clips almost every day and I discover more and more layers within the show. Gandolfinis performance is just on another level, not that the remainder of the cast are slouches either.
It blew my mind hearing him speak without the accent? He's also so polite and kind, nothing like the Tony role he played. Wow he was an Amazing actor No Doubt.
Jim Gandolfini is one of the best actors this or any generation he is absolutely in that discussion. However, Gandolfini as Tony Soprano is hands down, bar none, the greatest character in the history of TV/Film.
I remember seeing the first episode of The Sopranos in college and loved it. Years later, the show became the first show where my friends and I would get together every Sunday night just to watch it. So jealous of anybody who has not yet seen it and has that whole fantastic series to watch with fresh eyes. RIP James. You were a major part of my life in my twenties, even though I never knew you
Did the same thing during lockdown although mine was a re-watch after about a decade. Still one of the best TV shows ever. The magic was always between Jim and Edie though. Their chemistry was spellbindingly good especially the scene where she wants him to leave and he won't

Like the recently deceased Chadwick Boseman and also like James Dean, Gandofini died at a relatively young age for an actor. They all had memorable roles and were poised to do greater things if not for their untimely deaths.
@@Luigix99xThat's quite rude. Chadwick Boseman was a talented actor, and while he wasn't on the same level as James Gandolifini he was skilled and did great in his career (not just as Black Panther, too. Even though he was the best thing about the BP movie).

And now 2 weeks later I'm after hours with Tony and the others, his family, his crew. Wow. Just wow. This ending was so perfect, this series was so perfect, this character ..... He will be with me for years, maybe forever. Tony-James, cast and mr. David Chase… hats off. Hats off.
Great video, thanks for making it. He's my favourite actor, too. Even if Tony Soprano was his only role I'd still consider him the best. The intense, visceral, energetic and poignant performance he was able to maintain for such a long duration of time is an astounding artistic achievement.
I am envious. Being my favorite show of all time, I would give so much to be able to forget all I know about The Sopranos.. just so I could re-experience that first watch-through. But then again, even after having watched the series as many times as I have, it only gets better with every subsequent viewing. Whether it's your second watch or your fifteenth, there is *_always_* something new to pick up on that you didn't catch the time before.
Brilliantly done, you really captured James's Gandolfi well. I've watched the Soprano's at least five times, and love it as much or more as the last time I watched it. I watched it live when it was on HBO, I only subscribed to HBO just to watch the Sopranos' and binge watched it again during the Pandemic. Thank you for highlighting the rest of his career, I look forward to looking for and watching his other films. Your right seven years later its still hard to believe he is gone, taken way too early, sad for us, but good for heaven. It’s never too late to fall in love. The sopranos is one of the greatest shows of all time. Not just IMO but fact. Also it’s great that as a new watcher you found yourself drawn to the Kevin Finerty storyline. Most fans at the time (not me) hated it. Thought it was “jumping the shark”. It’s my favorite of all the storylines. I love seeing him get a chance to show his audience that he was more than a tv gangster. Also how are we not talking about him working with Brad Pitt at least 3 times? I bet those were some fun sets to be on. James and Brad have tremendous senses of humor (from what I’ve seen in interviews).
I remember reading William Friedkin’s autobiography, he talked about casting James in his TV version of “Twelve Angry Men.” Apparently he was terrific to work with, but was nervous to be acting alongside George C. Scott and Jack Lemmon!
There is not one person that has spoken a bad word about him. He fascinates 10 years after his death and will forever be a legend on screen and in life.

I really saw him for the first time in "Enough Said" even though I've always wanted to watch the Sopranos.
He was also great on the TV movie remake of 12 Angry Men.
Holy cow i saw that first then the original. Which guy did he play?
Damn never knew there was a remake and had him in it, gotta watch it.
You are definitely right on that one!
Where can i catch it? Netflix?
@@mulawarmankwsuper Juror 6, apparently one of the more easygoing guys
James Gandolfini ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
He was The Art 🎨
RIP 🙏 JG
I almost feel unworthy to see such a level of performance by this legendary actor
Alright, take it easy
Great tribute to a one of a kind actor.
The intro of this video is a true tribute to Jim. Like he's literally the only actor you wanna hear just breathing
White caps, the argument with tony and Carmella is a classic.
Pine Barrens.....,best Sopranos episode.!!
@mikedoesseo ...yes , that's in the top 5 .
"I know I'm late to the party"
Doesn't matter, brother. The party goes on forever. Welcome.
You'll enjoy it even more the next time around.
He was also great in "Welcome to the Riley's" with Kristen Stewart and Melissa Leo. Very underrated film by Ridley Scott's son, Jake Scott.
Gandolfini and Louis-Dreyfus acting side-by-side is amazing! And they are both know for completely differing styles to these roles.
Jim Gandolfini is one of the best actors this or any generation he is absolutely in that discussion. However, Gandolfini as Tony Soprano is hands down, bar none, the greatest character in the history of TV/Film.
Even though it's just a vocal performance I think his role in Where The Wild Things Are is amazingly well done.
This is so well written and edited. Video essays are my guilty pleasures and this is one of the best.
An icon taken from us too soon. Thank you, James. RIP 🙏
His last roll was in The Drop, Great movie
I remember seeing the first episode of The Sopranos in college and loved it. Years later, the show became the first show where my friends and I would get together every Sunday night just to watch it. So jealous of anybody who has not yet seen it and has that whole fantastic series to watch with fresh eyes. RIP James. You were a major part of my life in my twenties, even though I never knew you
AND I COULDN'T AGREE MORE!
Did the same thing during lockdown although mine was a re-watch after about a decade. Still one of the best TV shows ever. The magic was always between Jim and Edie though. Their chemistry was spellbindingly good especially the scene where she wants him to leave and he won't
I miss James Gandolfini so much. He's definitely in heaven.
There is strict guidelines for that and I'm not sure he met the criteria...
@@MattHelmSA there's no criteria when it comes to heaven. James definitely got in.
@@MrBlack252 absolutely is criteria.. read the Bible
@@MattHelmSA God does not hold you to a sub standard nor a set of rules in order to earn forgiveness or to see your true being. James was a light, he had a good aura and his energy radiated love. That is all that matters in the end. People hold each other to sets of rules that are absolutely out of context and for that they themselves unknowingly corrupt their being as well as others.
@@MrBlack252 there is but one way unto salvation and add it through the acceptance of Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior and to have actual repentance
That is so crazy seeing him act in the student film!! You can ever hear the slightest bit of Tony in there somewhere, but you would NEVER know what his future held!
Man do I miss this guy you just know we lost someone special when he left us .
True Romance is an amazing film.
Agree! The list of actors/actresses in that movie is Fing insane...
@mikedoesseo You're an eggplant.
Agree..very underrated film
I started watching for the first time last week right before 2020 finished. The greatest series of all time is my assessment.
I was blown away by his acting.i've never seen anything like it. He inhabited the character as I've never seen before. Pure genius
I just started to watch Sopranos in this lockdown! And i agree with Bryan Cranston, there is no Walter White without Tony Soprano!
RIP T :')
This is a very nice tribute to one of the greatest actors of all time. James Gandolfini will be missed.
Like the recently deceased Chadwick Boseman and also like James Dean, Gandofini died at a relatively young age for an actor. They all had memorable roles and were poised to do greater things if not for their untimely deaths.
Who the F is Chadwick Boseman compared to James Gandofini? Literally a nobody lol
@@Luigix99xThat's quite rude. Chadwick Boseman was a talented actor, and while he wasn't on the same level as James Gandolifini he was skilled and did great in his career (not just as Black Panther, too. Even though he was the best thing about the BP movie).
Don't forget Philip Seymour Hoffman.
I'm at the same time as you six months ago. I started watching because it is in the top 10-15 series in every series. So I'm trying to see what it is. And now 2 weeks later I'm after hours with Tony and the others, his family, his crew. Wow. Just wow. This ending was so perfect, this series was so perfect, this character ..... He will be with me for years, maybe forever. Tony-James, cast and mr. David Chase… hats off. Hats off.
I was not ready for that. I was tearing up watching this. ❤
The end almost made me cry man great job
What about the last castle? He’s was amazing in that too. R.i.p Mr Gandolfini. We miss you.
I got started watching the Sopranos and now I'm hooked. Great actor. RIP Gandolfini
Where’s da gabagool?
Gabagool? Ova heeeeeah!
Tony Soprano / James Gandolfini Awesome Man, R.I.P Greetings from Finland 🇫🇮
I remember him in Crimson Tide even though he had very little screen time. Great film.
Talk about star power, his 1999 Chevy Suburban he drove for four seasons of the Sopranos, sold for $110,000... He actually autographed the sun visor, "Take Care of My Car James Gandolfini"...
"One of the"? The Best TV series of all time bro. ;) TV have 2 part: Before The Sopranos - After The Sopranos.
It’s rated by many publications as the greatest of all time
Michael Suder you know if I said it was the greatest I’d get replies saying it isn’t. Damned if I do damned if I don’t.
Ross Perry 😂
beautifully done.
I did a binge on some of his movies after I finished Sopranos, because I missed him (although he was still alive).
This is a great look into what made James Gandolfini great. Thank you for this. He is sorely missed 😢
I remember watching the episode of the dream sequence when he’s in a coma. It was so bizarre hearing him talk without the heavy accent. Made me feel like I was in a dream. Really trippy.
