      Christopher is the cat not Adriana.
      Michael Imperioli states during a Soprano’s reunion interview with most of the cast that he was the cat.
      Also Joe Pantoliano has stated in a interview that his character did not kill the horse and it was Butchy who orchestrated the hit on Tony by having his Hair Salon model become Anthony Jnr’s girlfriend so he would know Tony’s whereabouts at all times.
      You really need to see these interviews with the actors in the show to really know what actually happened. All these other theories are BS and David Chase will never give the fans any real answers as he gets off on screwing with us and has told actors of the show in the past he decided not to do certain scenes or stories because the fans would enjoy them too much.
      He’s a genius but also a pretentious asshole

      @@oli3437 I do subscribe to the idea that Ralphie didn't kill the horse because he was truly reformed after his son's accident. But I always thought Patrick Parisi was the most likely to have told his Dad about where the Sopranos were having dinner, and Paulie and Patsy gave up Tony to NY for a number of reasons.

Paulie was simply sent to Valiry's apartment to collect a payment, and it was supposed to be a friendly encounter (Valirey was a capo or higher under Slava). @is1 it was the height of the paulie-chrissy rivalry and the official start to tony's distrust of paulie that pushed paulie away until the last episode when he had no one else. And the start of bobby being more than just junior's babysitter too. Also it's good worldbuilding to have them interacting with a few other "mafias".
      Edit: Also I'd like to add that this was the first time that I truly felt like this glorified crew was completely out of their depth more times than not and were too panicky and messy to not fall apart eventually. It was good to have a joke episode show Paulie's and Chrissy's biggest fuckup.

    34:38 James Gandolfini once said the weight gain came from eating the food on set. The food was so good they would sometimes have to tell the cast to slow down during takes because they were running out of food for the scene.

    • @thedoveston6781
      @thedoveston6781 4 месяца назад +21

      If you watch restaurant/meal scenes in tv and film, the actors rarely actually eat. They might drink, but they usually just push food around on their plates.
      With so many takes and re-shoots, the actors don't want to bloat on food and put on weight between productions. There's an English comedy called Friday Night Dinner that ran for several years. The majority of the show is set around the dinner table, yet in all those years you never once see anyone actually consume food.

During his association with them the family fought several brutal wars and didn't induct any new members at all.
    During his last stint in prison he saw a production by an acting troupe which inspired him to give acting a try. He largely drew on his own experiences, which is why he was cast in so many mafia roles, notably in Goodfellas, Gotti and The Sopranos.

    The “Made in America” title, as explained by David Chase, came from the part of the episode where Tony and Carm are entertaining Patsy and his wife, who are soon to be their in-laws. The wife, played by Donna Pessoa, is clearly dazzled by all the lush surroundings and objects in the Soprano home. At one point, she lifts up her very fancy teacup to peek underneath it, assuming that it’s very expensive English china, and is surprised when she sees the stamp on it, “Made in America.” That moment is symbolic of the illusory quality of much of their existence: things aren’t always what they appear to be.

      To comment on Lilyhammer, I watched it right after my first viewing of Sopranos.
      Pretty good (and funny) show, and some great Sil moments. It's a different character, but it's practically a cartoon version of Sil.
      The show is basically Sil solving the problems of his new friends in Norway in his own Jersey mob guy way, and teaching them as well. Its actually a really heartwarming show, but it gets strange later on in the final season and doesn't end particularly well. But the first season (and the second for the most part) was worth the watch.

    Tony didn’t die. It was the audience that was killed off. The last scene we see is Tony looking at the door as Meadow enters and then the screen goes black from OUR perspective, not his. He is looking in our direction. Notice the song “Don’t Stop Believing” is playing, meant again for the audience. Beneath that song on the juke box is “Any Way You Want It”, again left to audience interpretation. If it were Tony being killed we would have seen the last scene through his eyes, lookimg towards the door and then it goes black, as he discussed with Bobby on the lake.
    The final scene and the mystery man in the Member’s Only jacket represents Tony’s never ending paranoia that he will live with to the end. No matter what happens or how successful he is he will always be suspicious, never trust anyone and always be looking over his shoulder. Life goes on for Tony as he picks up the pieces of what is left of his crime family while his wife and kids venture off into their own new endeavors.

    While I do think Tony was killed at the end, I think Chase was also alluding to the notion that even if he wasn't killed, because Tony has chosen his path in life after one final chance at redemption in the beginning of season six, he'll never know real peace and will always have to be hyper-vigilant--perhaps a fate worse than simply getting shot in the head and immediately killed.

  • @czechman00
    @czechman00 4 месяца назад +13

    Great video, the extra effort in the editing really stands out! I do think it’s worth reconsidering your interpretation of Tony’s coma dream. In the dream, Tony is actually not Kevin Finnerty, he accidentally switches his briefcase with him and is stuck dealing with it for most of the dream, but he’s still Tony. I don’t see how Finnerty can represent Tony’s inner good person when Finnerty is presumed to have sold a faulty heating system to monks. Also in the dream someone asks Tony how he made the switch from selling patio furniture to precision optics, and previously on the show Tony has remarked multiple times that that’s would he might have been doing if he hadn’t been in the mob. Rather to me it seems like Tony in the dream is who he could have been, and Finnerty and his briefcase represents who he is in real life and the baggage of the mob. This also fits with your idea about Tony being fatalistic about life and that he had no choice with respect to the mob and what he has done. Dream Tony ends up with Finnerty’s brief case through no fault of his own, it’s simply an accident (fate) that he got stuck with it, yet that’s what causes conflict for Tony in the dream, like being being confronted by the monks. Let me know what you think!

      I feel like Tony didn't care about Tracy as a person so much as he looked at as a symbol of meadow. That certainly fueled his feelings about ralphie, but in my opinion, it was only about the horse. Animals didn't know how shitty Tony was, so he loved them more, plus they are innocent and unspoiled as to the lifestyle that he lives. Something that he struggles with throughout the series, was that he wanted out of that life deep down, but he was already tipped over the edge and barreling down the mountain. So that on top of the horse making him money was a double plus.

    I heard an interesting theory once that Tony didn't get shot in the diner, but instead died/got shot at the end of The Blue Comet. There's definitely something up with the ending of TBC and the opening of Made in America.
    In the last scene of The Blue Comet; Tony goes to the bedroom, shuts the door, sits on the bed, thinks back to Bobby tell him you probably don't hear it when it happens, lies on the unmade bed wearing a black leather jacket and black pants, with the AR-15 on his chest, and stares at the door (which you can see a key in the lock of but we know he doesn't lock it), and then goes to sleep.
    In the first scene of Made in America; Tony wakes up wearing a grey sweatsuit, on a made bed, and the AR-15 is standing up against the nightstand. It's possible that he woke up at some point in the night and stood the rifle up, but not to make the bed and change clothes.
    You might get the odd mistake in the Sopranos, but such blatant changes couldn't be a mistake when Chase has already said, something along the lines of, everything happens for a reason and if you notice something then it was meant to be there.
    I think there was something else too in regards to the diner scene, but I can't remember it properly. It comes back to Tony looking at something and then seeing it from Tony's POV. When he first walks in the diner you see him look forward then there's his POV. Then back to a shot of Tony where his expression seems to change a bit, but then from his POV it's him sitting in the booth. Like he's looking at himself sitting there. I dunno it's weird.
    The good thing about the Sopranos is the amount of ambiguity and that you always notice something you hadn't seen before on rewatches. That's why people are still discussing it 17 years after it ended.

I knew I recognised the voice and it turns out it is Joe Mantegna who plays the fictional mob boss Fat Tony D'Amico in the Simpsons. It was a real ad they used (Joe Mantegna was surprised when he started getting royalty checks from the Sopranos) but it can't be an accident that they used a fictional mob boss called Fat Tony to get under the skin of this Tony. Feels pretty meta.

    My favorite show of all time. Its been years since I first watched it and I have yet to find anything that has touched me the same way. The depth of the characters, their mental illnesses, their hypocrisys and complexs are all so raw and so human. My favorite Sopranos theory is that the supernatural exists in their world and my favorite episode is Commendatori.

    • @Elusory
      @Elusory  4 месяца назад +2

      Agreed! Love the supernatural angle in the series. For example, I was thinking that it's so intriguing how they bothered depicting both the Virgin Mary and Pussy in mirrors? Wonder what the significance is there. And Commendatori is an A+ choice

      @@Elusory Paulie's fixation with the supernatural and his superstitious beliefs are very on contrast to Tony's nihilistic view on the world. I think it's because Livia really shaped his fatalistic beliefs, with Tony going on how he believes there's nothing after this life etc. While Paulie was raised with more love by his mom/Aunt. I never heard of the theory that Adriana could be the cat and I love it. Even in death she still was loyle to Chrissy lol.

    I actually have an alternate theory about the ending that plays into the "its his hell" thing. My theory is that the entire show from start to finish takes place on a rerund of some of Tony's worst and last years of life ending with his death the cut to black and starting with the black screen from the pilot. So on and so forth for all eternity.

    WOW..EXCELLENT JOB AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR RESEARCH AND ALL THE HARD WORK YOUVE DONE ON THIS UPLOAD!!!
    As a soprano fanatic ive seen tue series over 100 times including when it was actually on HBO weekly..its the best series in tv history with the best main chatacter in tv as well..sometimes id go from " made in america" right back to the pilot and continue again because its just that good...i do this with no other tv show...when it was on A&E years ago, i could watch wherever it was when i turned on the channel and just watch because like i said, the show is amazing..writing, acting, everything was perfect...
    ..all these theories, conspiracies, ideas, and Easter eggs do make alot of sense...some ive heard, most i havent and i do look at the series a little different knowing what youve expressed here and i have to say its very interesting. Alot makes sense. Thank you again for the dedication and time and effort that went into this upload...

    First scene of 6:21 Made in America sums it up for me. Tony appears to be dead, lying in a casket with an organ playing. Chase said all the answers are right in front of you in the last season, referring to if Tony died or not.

      It is obvious that he does die, it’s just lazy casual viewers that don’t slightly understand what happens in the final scene. A lot of people hate the ending because they don’t actually see Tony get shot up (and his family as-well if the theory is right)

      “They don’t do it in front of family”.
      Then Phil gets whacked in front of his family, meaning they broke the rules. It was kind of really sloppy from Tony in the end. I think he was just spiritually done with everything, I almost feel like he knew what was coming and just wanted to go out this way to be honest. Seems a real obvious way he was gonna die.
