At first i was wondering why you left the fingers so long, but then I thought that would be great for knocking out all four sides at once. That's a great idea now I know what to do with some of my scrap wood,
In engineering, this is called "Elegant". Designing and building a thing - that is not difficult. Designing and building something simple, effective, with as few parts and processes as possible - now THAT requires true intelligence, and true mastery. This man clearly has these 2 qualities in droves. Respect!
I agree wholeheartedly. And also, this is an *incredibly* simple, bare bones shop, by the standards of a modern woodworker. Edit: At least with what is shown in this video, I haven't seen his others yet. But I did just subscribe, because wow.
very clever to come up with such a simple jig to make. What I'm missing though is how to measure the correct spot to route each opposite end to ensure a fit that is flush with the width of the boards.... any suggestions?
Yes. Get a calculator and a pencil the record the data. It will be different for each type of lumber, height, thickness, number of pins and mortises. (Holes and tongues)
just flip the jig, the reason why it is double. Taking into account the edge position of the first previous one. Also, take note of sacrificial board in place, after both routing the top portion must be plain surface to mean you route it right.
I think there are better joints to making one longer board out of two than just those box joints you've got scarf joints and they're pretty strong especially when making a beam
I am new just learning but didnt see what he did to do other side. Flip the jig or move slightly over? Confusing for me. But iam a beginner. Cool vid other than that.
The beauty is that the fingers can all be different widths (if you want to get real fancy) - the gap on one side of the jig is made by the width of the finger on the other side. I think if you flip to the opposite side the openings perfectly match the opposite fingers. Someone correct me if I'm mixed up!
would you be willing to produce a set of plans for your box joint jig !! it looks like something I could really use; I hope you say yes !! I am willing to pay for the plans; thank you, Patrick. P
@@patrickpeterman8736 well, probably he doesn't even have any plans, because those lengths and widths are simply based on experience. Depending on what sizes of wood you work on, you simply pick lengths and widths that fit well.
Well,... cringe away. If it's a foreign country,.. they don't have governing agencies to tell you that you can't do wood work without masks, guards, safety belts, steel toe boots, etc. I watch saw milling videos of people in flip flops sawing next to huge open blades that can cut a body in two in less than a blink of an eye, for wages that are less than a sandwich, or a bottle of beer. Or a pair of boots.
I have done the same, that’s how it was done. In fifty years I still have all my digits. A spins machine is a different matter, especially when the cutter flies out.
He’s a big boy. Let him make his own, adult decisions. Sheesh, where would advanced civilization be if everyone avoided risk like the frightened rabbits on RUclips…
He used a template guide, which adds about 1/8 gap between the template and the router bit. So, to make equal fingers for the joint you’d need for example alternating 3/4” and 1” boards, with the router running between the shorter boards

Brilliant design.
OMG!... this is Brillient!!.. just what i was looking for
♥♥♥
I envy the perfect joinery in each video I watch and the methods used. I have a lot to learn and so much to improve on too.
he does extraordinary work .
Simple and excelent.
Great idea, thank you H
Very useful
Thank
Ide brilliant 😊👍
You are a genious!
Great video
Great to see woodworking solutions from across the world. I'm definitely going to be making one of these jigs.
It still requires a work bench, table saw, bandsaw, planer, joiner, belt sander, router, and a shop full of power tools, to make a box.
Well, you don't have to do it like this, a saw, chisel and hammer will do. Up to you!
I'm not so sure you really want to make one I'm pretty sure you can buy one for so cheap that it would be to your advantage
Great!!! H CARPENTER I LIKE to much thank you gonna try make somerhing like that.
nice box joint jig !

Very clever, Good Job 👏👏👏👏👏👏👌
Muy bien.!! Exelente trabajo..Saludos.!!!!
Muchas gracias gran maestro... lo pondré en practica para mi taller
I like it
it so easy

nice! that is quick way.
Really neat
Would be nice to have all your fancy equip. Most of us don't have the monies.

The complimentary piece is supposed to be placed next to the first one and you continue to route.
Yes. Get a calculator and a pencil the record the data. It will be different for each type of lumber, height, thickness, number of pins and mortises. (Holes and tongues)
Exactly, specially since he moved the jig one has to eyeball the exact location. That's the main weakness of the jig I think.
just flip the jig, the reason why it is double. Taking into account the edge position of the first previous one. Also, take note of sacrificial board in place, after both routing the top portion must be plain surface to mean you route it right.
That's making two short boards into one long one and as strong as if it was one piece. 😁👍🇺🇸
Thanks sir

Muito bom trabalho parabéns pra vc 🇧🇷🇧🇷🙌🇧🇷
Браво! Гениально!
Your Fear of box joint jig 😜😜
That is soo good! Can you please tell me the measurements of spacing for the jig?
Esse cara é um gênio 😲
mindi wood 👍

@@carndt124 ya was kinda thinking there had to be a reason for other side. Thanks Chris great name by the way😁.
CARPENTER can you make for us somerhing like that but for DOVETAIL
Me to, that was close to those blades
5/8 " bushing with 1/2" bit?
💜💜💜💜
what are the dimensions of the "fingers"?
would you be willing to produce a set of plans for your box joint jig !! it looks like something I could really use; I hope you say yes !! I am willing to pay for the plans; thank you, Patrick. P
Plans???? A picture is better than a thousand words. Watch again, and start writing it down.
We have to guess at the lengths and widths; thank you for all your help??
This isn't something precise or fixed, just calculate it for yourself, based on your own preferences!
@@albertZweistein747 someone there said "a picture is worth a thousand words"??- knowledge is of little use unless shared"!! get the point !!!

@@larrymbouche well if they cut their body in half, they won't be caring about minced fingers, wouldn't they?
I have done the same, that’s how it was done. In fifty years I still have all my digits. A spins machine is a different matter, especially when the cutter flies out.

Bit stingy with the glue!
Isn't it fake? In the jig you used fingers with different width and got equal fingers and spaces in the connected boards.
He used a template guide, which adds about 1/8 gap between the template and the router bit. So, to make equal fingers for the joint you’d need for example alternating 3/4” and 1” boards, with the router running between the shorter boards
Что он делал?!
?
The music intro is a waste of your time and way too loud. Music is the worst thing you can do to a RUclips video. You a very good producer.
You're comment is a waste of time.
I agree. Also the music you picked is annoying af , especially the outro
Nice but those type of joints are the weakest. Maybe on a picture frame thatll work but nothing else
meh
Thats the worst glue job ever.
Que estupidez...
overly complicated a box joint process and the results is NOT even good or accurate!
Nice
Yes friend 👍👍
