From "Parks & Recreation": a mockumentary series following Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler), the deputy director of the Parks and Recreation department in the fictional town of Pawnee, Indiana. Leslie is determined to improve her small world through her job, despite resistance from Parks Director Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman), an anti-government Libertarian. The series also stars Aubrey Plaza, Chris Pratt, Rashida Jones, Aziz Ansari and Retta.

This proves that you can write a "will they or won't they" plot that doesn't get worse after they get together.
Agreed. The only other one that got it right was Daphne and Niles. It's like writers don't understand that every relationship has conflict to work through.
@@Awwscrewit yes! Frasier had a wonderful episode about how Niles had treated Daphne like a fantasy for so long he didn't know how to deal with the reality of her once they got together.

Actually, I don't think that rule really applies anymore. It was sort of a cautionary tale after the TV show "Moonlighting", but that was 30 years ago, and TV (and the people watching it) are very different now.
Plus, I think people today relate more to the quirks of being in a relationship with someone, as opposed to a "will they, won't they" type of thing.

@@kaytamurray the thing is he IS really good at his job, that's why is branch don't close like all the other. Not to mention that at the dinner with Jane and the dude they have to get a deal with, he conclude an enormous deal very easily. And you see that it's not just luck, he have the situation perfectly under control. Even when Stanley shout at him, he have too play the boss and do it just well, he just don't like this at all.

Probably the best romance is sitcom history. No unnecessary toxic drama, no milking of the will they won’t they until it gets old, just wholesome love.

Guess they hadn't ironed out what kind of nerd Ben was gonna be yet with all those sport references about Leslie's speech
That happens a lot with characters. Jerry didn't become a sad loser until season 2. On "Big Bang Theory", the pilot made a joke about Sheldon (who was virtually non-sexual at that point) masturbating (it was a holdover from the original pilot, where he had a tryst with a nerdy female friend of theirs).
Also in the original Star Trek pilot, Spock can be seen smiling or yelling at times.

And if I remember right, a lot of the characters on Parks and Rec changed a but after they found that s1 was not working, but for some reason Ben's line here makes me laugh the most with how they change him
I forgot Jerry wasn't viewed as a loser in s1. I wish they kept it, it always bothers me how the rest treat him

Literally one of the greatest couples in all of television history. My god. They are so well written and so well acted. The way Leslie injects fun and passion into Ben, and Ben steadies and fortifies Leslie. I love them so much. They actually did the romance justice, and they didn't become stale after being a couple. In fact, their best moments are as a couple.

that is often the thing people think could happen after relationships. i built this relationship where you built an intimacy that feels like a deep friendship and they want to hold onto it like it's separable from the romance of it all. it rarely works out that way

I remember when I first watched Parks and Rec and I saw myself as Leslie and I would think “oh I need to find my Ben”…and I’m now married to a guy called Ben who is also nerdy and a softie!

And Leslie became more like him. Compare early Leslie knope to how she was towards the end. You can watch the rise colored glasses come off as she becomes more pragmatic and capable.
It's not only enemies to lovers but opposites attracting in the best way possible.
Love how predictable we all are in that the most replayed section of the video is Ben and Leslie's first kiss. Glad we're all on the same page!

Leslie and Ben have so many great tropes represented in their relationship: enemies to lovers, secret star-crossed lovers, rebellious take on the system lovers, long distance, the list goes on
That enemies part lasted a very short time, but wow their relationship😍
Also, feel like maybe there should have been Leslie & Ben interfering on Chris & Ann’s first date, cuz they were still acting like enemies there
I always liked the subtlety of her bracing herself after she said she was done steamrolling people and asked Ben how he felt.
The harvest festival season is my favorite out of all the seasons. It’s just everyone coming together to work on something special and save their department. I love it.
Leslie's second little "what are you doing" when she realises Ben's proposing makes me cry every single time.

This is exactly what I love about Dan Goor- Michael Schur comedies, there are small, almost insignificant moments that viewers may not even notice but these small moments are ow they build the couples up, from the scratch.

Amy embodies her emotions so well. Her face after she asks Ben how he feels is so heartbreaking. Also when she is being proposed to. I love it.

“this is how i feel, how do you feel?” the pain and vulnerability in her eyes, afraid he doesn’t want to be with her the same way, and the way he can’t stand to let her fear for another second without reassurance and he rushes in to kiss her, i get teary eyed every time i watch that scene, that is the kind of angst/romance i live for

That's the way enemies to lovers is supposed to go. You start as rivals, then you learn more about the other, learn to appreciate them and then slowly fall in love with them.

I always hate when sitcoms break up the couple for no reason, but this one had a real reason and it was obvious they still loved each other so it didn't bother me as much.

As someone who has only seen him as Derek from step brothers, this is a huge shock haha
The only show that does this trope wonderfully, and if their are others I feel this is the best.
Adding Ben Wyatt and Chris Traeger to "Parks and Rec" was, in my opinion, one of the best casting decisions ever made for a television series.
It took "Parks and Rec" from being a cheap knockoff of "The Office" into one of the best TV shows ever made.
I think the only casting decision that beats this is the decision to make Steve Urkel a recurring character on "Family Matters'"
