For me, surprisingly what I liked most about this episode was the short flashback showing how Arai sacrificed himself for Kobeni. The fact that Arai got shot in the neck, analyzed the situation, knew Kobeni surviving was the best option, and IMMEDIATELY moving to protect her, it just shows what a real G he was. The ability to decide to give your life for someone in that short amount of time, for a normal and sane person like him, takes real guts. And then you realize what Kobeni must be going through, watching her partner die in front of her so she could survive. That is not something normal human beings are equipped to handle. Even the sanest of the devil hunters are crazy compared to the general population. Even the most scared like Arai can accept their deaths and give their lives. To overcome fear like that... it's worthy of so much respect.

So, a lot of people are very surprised by how capable Kobeni is but we actually get told by Himeno that Kobeni is extremely physically capable but very fragile mentally. Plus, the eternity devil was not an opponent that could show off what Kobeni could do. Especially since it couldn’t be killed and was consuming the entirety of the 8th floor which they were trapped on. It took Denji, who can heal through drinking blood and is nigh immortal in the right conditions, three days of consistent pain to the eternity devil for it to give up. Kobeni just had the worst luck and knew she was out of her depth. Anyone in that situation would freak out, especially when she is initially introduced as "mentally fragile".

On the other hand, the ghost devil offers PERMANENT use of a part of its body in exchange for a permanent erasure of part of your body. So with just Himeno's eye, she could use the ghost's hand at will permanently, plus normal people cant see or touch the ghost devil. It's a very very strong ability. When Himeno offered everything for the Ghost devil, she was controlling its entire body. This would be a permanent usage until Himeno's body disappears. This is an insanely strong ability. Unfortunately, the blonde girl's snake counters the ghost devil because it can just swallow it whole. She obviously seems very smart and is good at using the snake devil at specific times. So there's a quick take on how the balance of contracts work!
the conditions for this power of Makima are: being in a temple, having a sacrifice per target, the sacrifices have to be in the same temple as the user of the ability, know the full name of the target, make the sacrifice speak the name of the target, sacrifices have to be normal humans and targets have to be normal humans too. (Normal humans are people with no powers or who only have normal contracts, but if the person is possessed or a fusion then they no longer count as a normal human) this is a very strong ability, but I think it's quite complicated to use and it's practically useless to use in a one v one fight.

About the beginning discussion on losing a fingernail versus an arm: the two devil contracts between the snake devil and the ghost devil function differently. The snake devil takes a body part (fingernail in this instance) for a one-time attack, just like the fox devil. This move was "swallow it whole", and the next was using the tail later in the episode. Since the snake seems to specifically take her nails, she might have a very limited use of the snake devil because it takes a long time for nails to grow back. On the other hand, the ghost devil offers PERMANENT use of a part of its body in exchange for a permanent erasure of part of your body. So with just Himeno's eye, she could use the ghost's hand at will permanently, plus normal people cant see or touch the ghost devil. It's a very very strong ability. When Himeno offered everything for the Ghost devil, she was controlling its entire body. This would be a permanent usage until Himeno's body disappears. This is an insanely strong ability. Unfortunately, the blonde girl's snake counters the ghost devil because it can just swallow it whole. She obviously seems very smart and is good at using the snake devil at specific times. So there's a quick take on how the balance of contracts work!

(Normal humans are people with no powers or who only have normal contracts, but if the person is possessed or a fusion then they no longer count as a normal human)
this is a very strong ability, but I think it's quite complicated to use and it's practically useless to use in a one v one fight.
