For anyone curious: I wrote my 3rd year midterm paper for my class on Japanese Arts and Media at Hokkaido University on the differences between the 1969 and 2019 versions of the Dororo anime, so I did a lot of research into this series lmao Based on quite a few Japanese sources, the first manga draft of Dororo as written by Tezuka was closer to the 2019 version that we now have. It was very bloody and violent with a lot of adult themes. But because manga and this particular anime adaptation was made in the late 60s, when anime was primarily aimed at boys in elementary and middle school, he had to make a lot of changes to the story before this version could be aired. So the 1969 anime adaptation was reduced to more of a fun samurai adventure with Hyakkimaru as a cool hero protagonist who kicks evil guy butt by defeating demons, and Dororo accompanies him for the comic relief - a mischievous and funny little boy who other little boys could relate to. Much of the original storyline was kept the same, but there are certain elements and visuals that Tezuka was forced to change to make it age appropriate. Like Mio's assault is never mentioned in this anime version, let alone shown directly on screen like it was in the 2019 version, and her death is only mentioned in a flashback where we don't see her dead body, just a temple in flames; also one opening sequence has Dororo jumping across the roofs of buildings, when the original was supposed to be Dororo prancing through a battlefield of corpses (or heads on spikes, I can't remember which, but it was certainly a violent visual). In short, Dororo at its core is a very dark series about demons, morality and the very real historical horrors of the Sengoku period, one of Japan's bloodiest eras, but back in the 60s Tezuka was forced to tone it down to make it more appealing to his young audience, creating this fun and cool samurai adventure where there's a clear divide between the "goodies", Hyakkimaru and Dororo, and the "baddies", stupid samurai and demons. Nowadays, when anime and manga isn't just a children's medium anymore, it's much safer, for lack of a better term, to revive the series and stay more loyal to the darker themes that Tezuka originally intended to show through this series, such as human morality and the horrors of war.
"Hogetara" is a Japanese dialect that means "stupid, stupid" or "crazy". In other words, the lyrics say, "There are many stupid people in the world. There are also many stupid samurai."
What are you talking about, they made everything suitable for children just by adding the dog with a tiny hat and changing nothing else about the tone. Evangelion copied that by putting the penguin in the story.
When I watched this with my friend we never skipped either the opening or the ending it's too good. It's up there with King Gainer and any Macross season with the opening and ending sequences you can't get yourself to skip.

This opening and ending doesn't feel like something out of a dark story of a man who had his body parts sold to demons as a baby and must fight these inhumane creatures to restore them for himself. Actually feels like something from a childish cartoon.
That was the main point of the song, to make a dark anime series appear more kid friendly. Initially a darker song was supposed to be heard but a more light song was chosen for the above reason.
Interestingly, the very first opening of Dororo (1969) is more serious compared to OP (the 3rd OP is basically the 2nd OP with a few different scenes and an animated logo with a nice music before the opening plays), the music is the same however.

It’s like Osamu Tezuka’s style was indeed Disney-inspired, but with his own tastes and ‘60s Japanese perspective, managed to influence _the entirety of modern manga and anime as we know it._ What makes this medium so unique can be traced back to the likes of him and Go Nagai, right?
I like how the whole ending is just Hyakkimaru walking away from Dororo with a "so done with your shit" expression. Might not be intentional but that's what it looks like.

Just finish watching dororo 2019 ep.13 .Wow,The ED is what Walking To Onsen sence inspired from.
Wow. They made this years after the war. So... Cheerful... So.. Fast
I saw a lot of people that had blind reactions say that they would have loved the 2019 op(music) more if it was 'more suited to the era tradition and had less English' and overall others say they hated it.
Then there's this op.
ur very special to me, ya nerd.
1969 Dororo op : I am innocent
The anime: syke
2019 Dororo op: I am gonna kill u alive (makes no sense I know)
2019 Dororo: still the same see I speak the truth
why does the 1969 version just make me laugh?
The animation?
@@erikaoliveira6929 the song
