Now I know why you were so intent on seeing the House on Fire - it is quite spectacular, even without direct sunlight. Excellent video, Nick!

I just saw that you posted this! And, I have to say……for all the awesome things we saw on this trip, this was my absolute favorite thing to see! When one sees these things, it brings so many thoughts about them, like “Did the people back then think it looked like a house on fire?” Did they build this with the intent to be such an awesome gift to future generations who see it? I just don’t know. I will always remember the House on Fire as one of my favorite things on our wonderful trip to Utah! ❤😊

That was a really fun time hanging around up there and finding the handprints. Glad we finally went down the correct canyon and located it!

Interesting seeing the brush washed up against several trees along the hike, quite a raging stream at rare occasions...."cairn" joke 😂

Been though highway 95 several times in the '80s and '90s but never stopped at the House on Fire, your video was almost like being there. Measuring the trail on google earth comes up with about .95 mile from where you stepped off the road...Nick, you have to realize that those people were tough as nails and lived "outside" all the time, those structures were mostly a place to store their "stuff" and extra food, only being "lived in" when weather was horrible ...As the ruins face west, I would think the magic lighting comes late in the afternoon/evening, or would it be the "glow" of the early morning light...??...Thanks for posting.

.95 miles sounds about right. My GPS is always a little off, especially in canyons. But yes, the Puebloans were tough as nails to withstand the climate there. Wow. Im not sure if the lighting is better when the light is fully hitting it because it probably just washes if all out. I noticed on the sign the shadow was just a little further closer than when we left. So maybe in that next hour it got better, and probably why all the people were showing up as we were leaving.. but considering the drive back to Colorado we couldnt wait any longer and had to go!

nicely done vid of the actual hike.....as far as the wood and soot, unfortunately some a-hole photographers have started fires in the main ruin to capture night times shots with it and the stars above the overhang

Nice vid, the house looked on fire! You're right about the petroglyphs. 8:42 "That's way too artistic for modern day man." Exactly right Nick; modern day man gave us The Mandalorian season 3 with Jack Black and Lizzo!

Hey Nick! Sorry if this isnt the format for questions and/or requests. Any special RMNP hikes planned for this year yet? I'd like to see you do the Bear Lake to Flat Top to Andrews Glacier to Loch back to Bear loop. 12 miles I think. Would also like to see you go past Taylor's Peak and get above the southern side of Sky Pond to see how far you can get before getting cliffed out. :)

Ive got previous vids on both of those routes, but they are older and done with the Nikon (shaky cam). I have done Taylor Peak and gone down the glacier.. then later did Powell Peak, doubled back hitting Taylor and then down the glacier. But no real big plans yet.. thinking about doing Longs again but not sure.

Maybe when you branch out again, go see the Wind River range. Also on my to do list.
