      @@JayJackson1981 They didn't decide it. It was Jay Sandrich, the Pilot director. He did the casting. Rue went to read for "Rose", he saw she was a great actress but not for that role, he noticed the "Blanche" hidden in Rue, asked her to read the role, and decided then and there the switching of roles. Rue was thrilled because that's the part she wanted from the start. Betty, not so much, due that she was willing to do "Blanche", she didn't know who "Rose" was. She learned to love her..

Her character was probably the least likable, so they gave her a lot of episodes where you genuinely felt sympathetic toward her. Rue was a great dramatic actress. She really showed Blanche's vulnerability in many episodes.

I cant even place it in the kitchen cabinet with my other mugs. I keep it on display on the counter. Blanche is by far my favorite of the girls. This show saved me during the most arduous and depressive periods of my Life. 🖤

    Ive been watching GG since i was 12 and am now 35. This show means so much to me over the years. Its one of my comfort shows i put on when i cant sleep at night. Rue you are definitely one of a kind. God bless them all.

    I like the episode when Blanche gives Dorothy, Rose, and Sophia a calendar for Christmas. Rose squeals: “The Men of Blanche’s Boudoir”! Dorothy flips through the calendar of men, and yells “Whoa!” Blanche coyly asks “September?” Dorothy nods, and Sophia remarks: “I’m surprised you were able to walk in October!” 😂😂😂 The writers for this show were brilliant!

      Sophia's comebacks are priceless...The spunk and quick wit...I always waited for it, half way through Blanche's' monologue...I felt anxious like, "Knock her out already, Sophia"...She was my favorite...Sophia's character must have been some "Sexy Vamp" in her youth...She knew exactly where Blanche was coming from and how to pour that bucket of Ice water on it...LOL...RIP girls...We miss you soo much...

    She was a great actress.. her character on Maude "Vivian." Was completely different from "Aunt Fran." On Mama's Family. She took the Blanche Devereux character to new heights.
