    Panasonic has always strived for image accuracy, even back with their DVD and Blu-ray models. Sony goes for a punchier image, not necessarily bad but not as refined, same applies to their DVD and Blu-ray models too.

      Thank you, I'm glad you find it useful. There are differences between both players. To me the Panasonic has more features, the picture output is slightly better and it automatically switches between Dolby Vision and HDR (on 4k discs) the Sony one does not do that, you have to change it manually each time.

    Thanks for this review. I recently bought a QD-OLED and have been blown away by the picture, specifically streaming content using Dolby Vision. But I now need to upgrade my Samsung 4K player since Samsung doesnt (refuses?) to incorporate DV. I’m torn between the Panasonic and the Sony players. Its nice to see an updated review since many videos were from over well over a year ago. I’m leaning towards the Panasonic because it auto detects DV and HDR content. But going to shop around for a good price.

    • @ZGadgetReview
      @ZGadgetReview  Год назад +4

      If you have a Samsung TV, the player still won't give you DV since the TV has to have the DV capability. The DV auto detection helps so much, I don't have to go look for the type of HDR the disc supports anymore.

      Not a dumb question. To me a standalone player will do a better job than the gaming consoles. It really depends on what kind of viewer you are. Currently in CAD, you can get the Sony for $325 vs the Panasonic for $598. After seeing this, the difference in 4k content and DV doesn't justify nearly double the price for the Panasonic. I guess it would be different if I had a bunch of older blu-rays, but I'm buying strictly UHD discs.

      In other forums people say the problem is that Sony players pause/glitch/freeze slightly when disc-layer-changing, which can be super annoying when immersed in a movie,...also the Sony player's don't auto-select Dolby Vision, which must be manually turned on every time you watch a movie with DV. For me the micro-freeze is a total deal-breaker. A problem like that shouldn't even come to market in the first place.

      I'm personally very happy with the Panasonic. The image is slightly better and to be the best part is that the player will detect the difference between Dolby vision and HDR 10 and pick the right format. The Sony is not a bad player, but you manually have to choose Dolby vision when watching Dolby vision and that can get a little annoying.

    Sent the Sony DVD player back and got a Panasonic Blu-ray Player with 4k upscaling. A basic value model. Right now I still have an old 1080p TV, but that way I have something ready for 4k.
    And I have to say there is definitely some cinematic magic going on with this player. What I really like: Very little options, but really good image quality.
    The Sony DVD player actually had more options. I did some DVD comparisons and this where you see the difference. The PS3 is a really good DVD player. But it uses 90 Watts playing a disc. PS4 has not as good image quality then the PS3, uses 40 Watts. The DVD player was right in the middle between those 2. But the Panasonic Blu-ray Player nails it.
    The picture just looks clean but also analogue at the same time. Clean but cinematic. It was definitely worth testing another player. I am very happy.
    Sony DVD player had the brightest image. The PS3 and PS4 where close, and the Panasonic has just a bit darker (better) image. It is just a bit more cinematic. 🙂

      @@ZGadgetReview instead of 16:9 the player fills the tv panel. I have John Wick 4 in 4k which is 16:9 so black bars top and bottom. My TV allows to change the aspect ratio but not with my current player

      @garyhilton656 oh, you can set the aspect ratio on the player. If your TV has the capability to set the aspect ratio manually, that's the only other way I think that it can be done.

    Is it really worth paying double the price for the Panasonic over the Sony?

    • @ZGadgetReview
      @ZGadgetReview  13 дней назад

      For me yes, on the Panasonic the image is better and I really like that it changes between Dolby Vision and HDR automatically so I know that the disc is playing correctly, it also has more picture settings that are missing on the Sony. But of course if those things don't matter to you, the sony would be a good option, the image that Sony outputs is good too.

    I will not argue about 820 is better picture but you have the settings wrong on the sony it should be set to 444 color and BT 2020 color you have it on 422 and 709 color NOT A FAIR COMPARISION

    The problem for me is that both these players are now old players, dated technology, I would be reluctant to commit to buying either presently, my luck would be that if I invested then Sony and/or Panasonic would release their newer models.

    • @ZGadgetReview
      @ZGadgetReview  4 месяца назад +2

      I was hesitant when I got the Panasonic too (I've had the Sony one for a few years) but at this point with the way media is going, I don't think that either company will be refreshing their models. They keep updating the firmware, so it shows that they at least have not abandoned them.
      I think you are safe to get one.

    This is the worst player I've ever had. It stops playing 4ks after a little over 1 year. My 1st one stopped playing 4ks while the blu ray kept playing discs. I bought another same model. Same exact issue at around the same exact time frame. Funny when the warranty is only for 1 year. Total bullshit and a rip off at $450 pricetag.
