Mate, you really need to stop looking for critique in music you don't understand. "Windswept" isn't monotonous, it's mood & atmosphere - a sensory romance, not a radio single. This was Ferry's post-Roxy trade & skill: sexy, deeply romantic late evening Sophisti-Pop for the champagne jetset lifestyle. Don't think about it, just let it take you there.
Brilliant song and album with a lot if great musicians like David Sanborn, David Gilmour, Mark Knopfler and Marcus Miller.
This entire album is greatness, peak of Brian Ferry.
Boys and girls like the later album Mamouna and like the last Roxy album Avalon, are marvelously engineered albums. Production wise with some of the best session players, engineers and producers of the time. Check the credits on these 3 albums and look at the work they have all been a part of.
Amazing sounding albums. Avalon and Mamouna especially
Boys and Girls drums is still.much better then most 1985 pop music but the least best of rhe 3. Its a little thin comparatively
Avalon, boys and girls and mamouna should be on your list to do. Especially mampuna if u like moody cabarer well produced atmospheric pop. Like i tell people. Nobody made being heartbroken cooler then bryan ferry
I love that album, it fits always fpr every season every.mood.nile rodgers is just brilliant
I think David Gilmore played on a track or two on this album
Such a good reviewer… 🎉❤
David Gilmour, Mark Knowles, David Sanborn, Nathan East
I think it is difficult to review single tracks from an age where albums more often were constructed as an ‘album’; telling a story, backing a running theme, etc. Ferry albums, during and after Roxy, were created this way. Other 70’s to 80’s artists did this as well with great success, like Sting and The Police, Morrissey and The Smiths, and REM, et al. However, you do a nice job on your reviews to single pieces out so we can relive the first-listen experience.
Great suggestion. Beautiful production. A lot of good songs on this album.
This just made my day
Aaaaah, reminds me of my teenage days... not my type of music normally, but I love this album
Haven't heard this song in a long time. It's pretty dang good. I actually discovered Bryan Ferry when I found out he used The Smiths' instrumental 'Money Changes Everything' as the basis for his single 'Right Stuff'. Might want to check that out too if you haven't already.
I love this whole album. Reminds me of my high school days.
