    I come from Pittsburgh and once attended a mass where the Priest processed in blessing every one with a Steelers Terrible Towel. Definite cringe.
    I actually like those pre-mass announcements of what day of the liturgical year it is. It helps pull me back from the world into a place where we operate to a different calendar.

    I stopped going to youth mass because it was all cringe. Now I do 7:30 am with all the older people.
    Also I’m now just discovering this podcast and I’m really excited to see priests that are reaching people this way…sometimes homilies aren’t as intellectually stimulating so it’s nice to have some sort of outlet to learn as a lay person

    I've attended Mass where the priest didn't follow the prayers from the Order of Mass, but made up his own words, it was horrifying. He only followed the Eucharistic prayer, but even that was somewhat off in my recollection. When he lifted up the Body for all to see after the Fraction of the Bread , he didn't say, "Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb." But made up his own words. Liturgical cringe or liturgical abuse? I've decided to move away from that Parish until it's fixed.

    • @LostArchivist
      @LostArchivist Год назад +1

      That level is I believe liturgical abuse. If he made up his own words for conscecration I believe it may be invalid. Please, if you think it was that, go to the bishop about it, that is not a matter of custom, taste, or prudence, it is much much more serious. The words of conscecration are part of the outward assurance we have of the invisible transubstantiation of the bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Our Lord, Jesus Christ.
      If I am mistaken here, please tell me so I may also learn, my brother in Christ.
      God bless you and that priest. Through Our Blessed Mother I ask this, through Our High Priest and Eternal King, Jesus Christ. Amen.

      @@LostArchivist He read the words of Consecration correctly, I think that's the only time he read from the Order of Mass.
      Regarding the validity of the Mass I can only surrender to God. But I attended Mass with that priest twice and he did these alterations in all of them.
      God bless you too and thank you for your prayers.

    I'd say the type of activity in the Novus Ordo can be more like playing a videogame than like reading a book. A videogame lot of "activity" but that activity does not in itself require a deeper contemplative engagement. I also think that the sense that videogames are more engaging even than movies is often an illusion, because watching a really good movie is going to truly activate you as a person on more levels than grinding in World of Warcraft.
    IMO the Novus Ordo allows more freedom for the priest but less freedom for the laity (because we all have to be saying the same things and it's expected that we listen to the specific words the priest is saying). The TLM allows less freedom for the priest but more for the laity, more potential for the layperson's engagement with each Mass to be unique and different. I think the Tridentine is more demanding, at least for me, I am either actively engaged on an interior, almost "creative" level, or totally spaced out.

    The bishop is saying Mass. Parishioner jumps up and goes over to the table where the water and wine are, pours all into chalice, brings to the bishop. At communion bishop realizes chalice has a lot of water in it. He partakes, offers to EMEs who drink most of it to help bishop. Bishop a bit old and not aware really of what parishioner did. Cringeworthy. That parishioner recently made a EME. Priest didn't want to know about cringe event while he was away.

  • @elgusto5329

    The music! I also believe that parish councils/employees have been so set in their ways that they try to influence or prohibit priests with good intentions to elevate the liturgy to something reverent from being allowed or sidetracked. Does this make sense to anyone. I live in a county in Georgia that has five parishes and four of the priests are making changes that are positive but the laity seem unaffected. Latin in the liturgy, Eucharistic prayers in Latin and even one priest who is considering a communion rail. In a NO liturgy!

    just something i noticed while a protestant for many decades all "theologians" quoted were ones usually only after the 1500's. i notice the Catholilc's refer to source writing back as far as the 1100's and rarely farther back. But i have noticed the Eastern Orthodox refer to early Church fathers regularly, along with current Saints writings. I guess my comments show i have fallen for a temptation...as Orthodox I will just plain not know the why of things.....division is sad and painful like divorce you need your parents to be together and they just aren't going to be

      Yes veiling seems to be making a comeback, which is nice. I'm glad people are actually looking into the reasons why women did it and deciding to do it themselves, rather than just doing it out of habit or because it was required.

    We have a lot of Filipina guest workers here and the English language Mass is mostly for them. They make announcements after Mass and they thank the priest. Ok, that's nice but THEY DO IT WITH APPLAUSE!!!!! That's really cringe to me. They also do some Evangelical songs so I now got to the Arabic Mass.

    TLM "allowing consumerist attitude towards mass" ? Unless it's you being the consumerist, how can you tell ? Maybe your idea of consumerism is someone who is lukewarm and that is between the soul and it's God. I think if a person is a consumerist at TLM, they would be a consumerist at N.O. it would just be harder to recognize it maybe. I converted middle aged, and was formed in a TLM parish. My first time at a N.O. parish was so EASY ....NO for me seemed and seems like "mass light". All I had to do was show up, no missal required .... I'd just listen and follow the prompts . TLM low mass, high mass and solemn high masses I had/have to read the mass so I could learn to follow where the priest was in the liturgy at any given time of the celebration, learn key Latin words so if I got lost I could get back on track, learn chant, learn when to sit, stand, kneel and genuflect. .. To me the priest does it all in the NO and spoon feeds you.

      @@LostArchivistyou are right, my catholic faith tells me that I should repent but it just gives me tools to figure out my sins myself, like the examine of conscience among others. I have never heard that my mission is to tell others what they need to repent for.
      In the my examine of conscience there is a part where I look at the laws that I need to follow. The first is to love God above everything else. And then I ask myself if during Mass I did so. At a NO Mass is probably a NO. For such an important command, from Jesus himself, I want to be sure. Jesus will judge me and you don't need to judge me. God bless you.

    • @LostArchivist
      @LostArchivist Год назад

      @@federicozekath4914 I mistook you for someone else actually. But if you feel convicted about something from it, just bring it to your confessor. Take or leave any of this as the Lord leads you to.
      I was not trying to judge your soul, just point out if it were present how important that matter is. I do not want to see you in Hell my brother in Christm and such a sin is very grave. Standing before the Just Judge is too late to repent. Likewise all sins afflict the entire Body of Christ, we are made one in Him and as we are all Children of God, we are brothers and sisters in Christ, and ought to love one another, and calling each other to repent of grave sin and spiritual suicide is both just and merciful.
      If it helps at all, just remember at every Mass Christ offers Himself as an unbloody sacrifice for all of humanity to God the Father, and we as His Mystical Body join in God the Son`s perfect worship and sacrifice of God the Father, in the Holy Spirit. Heaven comes down to Earth at every Holy Mass.
      If you know that and have honor for that in every Mass, and do not say, that it is not so or is invaid or immoral to attend it, you are okay.
      I am sorry for the confusion before.
      As for why I did that at all to anyone, admonishing the sinner is one of the Spiritual Works of Mercy that we are called to do, if virtue dictates we should, like the Corporeal Works of Mercy.
      I can share them all if you wish, otherwise I recommend looking them up for yourself.
