This is so true. I had a great conversation yesterday with two friends, one Catholic, one Anglican, (I'm Protestant but am convinced God is calling me to come home to the Catholic Church). Our Catholic friend invited us for dinner around 7pm at a sports bar.
We had a drink and ate and laughed and discussed philosophy, theology, family, life goals, aspirations, and by the time we knew it, it was almost 11pm!! Two of us had work the next day haha. It was worth it. True Christian friendship and ecumenism is nourishment for the soul.
Funny thing is we were joking with our Anglican friend that he is bound to "cross the Tiber" at some point in the future and warned him that he better not get his hands on St. John Henry Newman if he wants to stay Anglican. Turns out it was his feast day yesterday and we had no idea until today...

It's not just a problem with smart phones, the world is heading towards ever more homogeneity of supply. A few big players have seen off commercial rivals, leaving arbitrary power in the hands of people whose motives could be literally anything. Old capitalism was toxic but at least people understood making money was the only aim. Now vast wealth is conflated with fuzzy edged ethics and philosophy.

Truth. Standardization & monopolistic power. We must do everything possible to disengage and connect and trade with like-minded people. Otherwise, we will be complete slaves to the world system.

Star Trek Next Generation and the Pin Communicator. (Sorry nerd here) Initially I thought they were a cool upgrade. I began to realize that they (the characters) were responding to that thing at all hours and it made me realize that they really had no privacy. It was then that it started to dawn on me that not all technology is good.

Amen! Good enough I pulled the car over to tell you how good. It was. This is New Mexico where you have to drive 80 miles between destinations. Nobody can really say listening to you and Father Pine or Father Hicks is a waste of time. It's 100 out today, no air conditioner in the car. Hard to pray when it's hot as he'll. Thank you for your ministry. Is my brain fried as I type this? Probably, but then maybe this is my base line.

A phone “helps fill the time” with interesting idleness in the least and at its best and at its worst fills the confessional. This channel is helping me move towards dumbing down our phones. It’s a slow process....

I agree lets all toss our cells and go back to LAN. Im literally annoyed with them annoyed carrying one. I feel foggy ever since they came about. I literally break them not intentionally every six months and take my time days weeks months one time before getting it fixed. Also where I use to ask God questions or where to get information I now ask god and find my self googling it also. As soon as they are not work requirement my smart phone is gone.

My Gen X self hates the fact that people cannot actually converse any more. People don’t save anything up. Everything is imparted in texts and social media posts. I’m an early adopter - had a computer when it was rare and internet when not much was on the internet. I have never taken a selfie, text just a couple of times a week and rarely post on social media. Everything has its place in our lives. Y’all need to go outside and get some air. Put the phone down - even the dumb one. Sure, call or text someone to ask them to come over for dinner or go for a walk, etc. Stop acting like a bunch of zombies, peel your eyeballs off the screen and act like a social creature. We were made to interact with each other, not a screen. And stop with the FOMO. You ain’t missing anything. If it’s important, God will put it in your way.

If this is correct then were he alive today, he'd probably say that the smartphone would be more closer to it

I master my cell phone, the cell phone does not control me. I have it on mute all the time, when I decide to check it then I check it. When I go to bed I turn it off and by doing that my cell phone last longer in years. I think I'm going on 3 years with the same cell phone. Repent and pray. God Bless you all.

Matt, what phones do you recommend for this?
    1.) Map
2.) Download a delivery app from app store
    3.) Make calls
Everything else on phone is distracting me from Jesus.

I also wonder whether this effect unfortunately dissolves the only place where you can find this kind of engagement being philosophical discussion with ott intellectuals which makes people dislike this kind of conversation even more as it's associated with gross people.

This is a ridiculous over exaggerated video. It’s a phone, you decide how to use it not the other way around. Here is some common sense . Since smartphones aren’t going anywhere and are going to be much more advanced in the future. Just remind people of some common sense rules of thumb to help use the benefits of them better. Jeez this is like hearing two old ladies gripe about today’s music lol.

@@Veritas1234 I, like most people today, meet my spouce on a phone app. So I'd say closer to family. And as an athiest, my distance to God hasnt changed, but there are lots of apps that could be used to woorship if desired. It's all about proper use.
