Rest easy John prine. It’ll be a different world without this guy, for real. Rest easy man.
He wrote all down as the progress of man. Twainesque humor wit, the heart and soul of Hemingway, throw in Dylan's open cowboy chords to boot. RIP John Prine.
Don't worry he's smoking that 9 mile long cigarette as we speak
@@ryanoneal8480 very well put.
You can see the respect that Strurgill has for John by the way he accompanies him.
stayed out of the spotlight. Sad to see john pass
Which is a direct departure from how John normally performed the song. He was always about using it to promote younger artists and give them a push.
Indeed
Sturgill is a cool dude
Prine is just in a tier by himself. Special, special artist. He is missed, but his body of work is still relevant.
John was a national treasure. This has broken many hearts. His music will live on forever.
I was lucky enough to see John Prine and his best friend Steve Goodman in Austin, Texas, at Armadillo World in 1973. Just the two of them standing on the stage with their acoustic guitars. Everyone loved them. Then I saw him with John Lee Hooker, Doctor John and John Hammond Jr. in a small theater in Miami. Then another time in a beautiful, new event center Fort Lauderdale where I am from. The acoustics were beautiful. Just by himself up on the stage making everybody laugh and cry. I have been blessed. I swear I become a crybaby every time I listen to him.
jimmie200 Aw, I hear you brother. His songs are real special, and you got to see him. I am a little jealous, haha.
Quite possibly the greatest songwriter that has ever lived
Kristofferson & Prine were much, MUCH better!
@Patrick McKenna Cash hardly wrote anything! He did others' songs, such as Kris Kristofferson's "Sunday Morning Coming Down", and Prine's "Sam Stone".... But Prine, and Kristofferson were right up there, by comparison to Dylan. All amazing talents as song writers!
Hank Sr is up there too
That's respect. Sturgill could outsing John at this point but it never crosses his mind. That shoes class
He could have played an over the top guitar part too. It looks like He called someone out of the audience that knows the song and can play the chords. Hopefully Sturgil will keep making great music and fill his shoes for our kids to have an old guy that's still cool
I will forever love John Prine and may God bless the story tellers.
Heart is cracked open on learning of his passing. One of the greats. Hope you Fish and Whistle in Heaven.
I will love you forever, John. May you rest in peace and in Paradise. Be assured that your music, like one of your influences, Hank Williams, will live forever. Now you and Steve Goodman can sing duets once again!
First heard him 40 years ago...learned guitar to play his songs..still play his songs today. .love that sleepy eyed boy.
Sturgil Simpson just loves John Prine as do we all
Sturgill adored John and his time with him. He was somthing Special
I grew up as a child in the 80's and my aunts friends were musical. They often played his music around campfires. I'm 42 and I am glad to know this genre of music
Been a John Prine fan many years. First time I saw him was in the 70's on the Johnny Cash show performing this very song. He is a legend to our family!
The Grammies are much less important than music like this.
Beautiful performance by both. And I grew up on the Mud River which feeds the Green. About 20 miles from Paradise as a crow flies. Love hearing this
I like this bc I was born in Greenville and my Memaw was born in a town called paradise and my papaw was a Peabody miner
love this song!!! been singing it for years every time i cross in to mulenburg county on the WK and cross over the green. used to embarrass my girls everytime they had friends in the truck lol. john sick COVD-19 god be with you my friend!!!
At first this seems like a simple song... but after listening to it a few more time you realize it's another masterpiece from the master!
The man is on another level…. Master song composer that knows just how to get to the heart of any song and make it his!
Rest In Paradise John Prine
He had throat cancer and I have heard he was sick again I've been a fan for years and I have not ever seen him in concert praying for him to get well I'd love to see him in concert someday
Hasta hoy, conozco este cantautor americano..por una emisora americana, que estoy oyendo..las reseñas hablan que era un Poeta..
Que descanse en Paz🙏🙏
i was lucky enough to see John Prine live at WKU in Bowling Green (Diddle Arena) 1968 or '69 - the memory hasn't left me.........
Thank you, Mr. Prine.
A musical legend and future musical legend together.
What a memory I will carry for the rest of my life. I'm so saddened at your passing. Rest easy john P
My exes father played this song on his twelve string and sang it to us many times. I will never forget his amazing talent. Miss you and your guitar WJK. I know it’s very unlikely you will ever see this post but never the less I truly hope I will get to hear you play even if it’s for just one more time. Be well.
Me and my wife saw him at paramount in Ashland wish her and him was here today
may your ashes float down the green river. rest in peace, mr prine
John Prine was the master wordsmith of songwriting. I play many of his songs in my setlist... God bless you brother John.
😊
This is beautiful. RIP John. We miss you.
My dad lives in Greenville, a few miles away. My grandad had a farm on the Green, close to Paradise. Saw the shovel as a child.
I've had too much bourbon for this. Just all tears and laughter.
John Prine for President!!
ALOT BETTER then the trash we have now!!
One of the greatest song writers ever !!!!!
The master of lyrics, stories and class!
Love is strong.
WOO John with Stugill LOVE LOVE LOVE Bluegrass~
This isn't bluegrass.
Rest in peace, Mr. Prine. Thank-You for all your music throughout the years.
Best songwriter, bar none. For all the enjoyment you bought , I thank you from the bottom of my broken heart. Rest easy John Prine.
a wonderful song..... "where the air smelled like snakes"... what a great visual !
A visual you can SMELL. That is the power of that man’s simple, yet impressive words.
I’m proud that I’m a Kentucky boy myself and I was born here and I will die here not to mention John was one of the greatest song writers of our time til then brother
Rest well Mr.Prine...I'm sure you're not "halfway"...but if you've chosen to take a short detour, we'll find you in Paradise🥰🥰🤗🤗
Shouldn't John's name appear first, since it is his song??
Yes
Probably trying to increase views by listing the current most popular guy first.
@@danielweber8548 I've still no idea who the other guy is.
@@ulogy Sturgill is really good, and a great guy according to my friends who've played shows with him. Listen to You can Have The Crown, Turtles All The Way Down, Life Ain't Fair, and Railroad of Sin to get a feel for him. Great voice with a strong southern accent.
Thank you for all the years John, you were the greatest! Rest now.
love John..
John Prine is Forever my Hero saw him in Cincinnati 6/9/18 AWESOME AND AMAZING
John....you will be missed....RIP
We're praying for you John!
Fantastic performance; Sturgill released a studio cover of this song and it's great too. RIP
They carved John up so he was nearly unrecognizable but he was always John, a beautiful soul.
He's still got it
My favourite song of Mr John Prine ,, what a legend and what a loss what a poet .
A national treasure and one on the way
Thank you John, comfort to your Family, Peace.
R.I.P John you were a legend i hope you're in paradise.
John is great. Sturgel has a great voice check it out in "Turtles all the way down the line"
Even though he's talking about coal ruining "paradise", I feel this song as one who's childhood home was overtaken by urban sprawl here in Idaho.
Pop bottles. Love from Lake Superior
I love John prine
Rest easy John. Greatest song writer of all time..
A true Treasure and a gift to the world R I P John Prine
Beautiful
Being able to call muhlenberg county my home is such a great honor. Rest In Peace mr. prine
Hope you found Paradise, sir. RIP.
11/03/2022: am I too late in asking? I woke up in the middle of the night thinking how far gone so much of this is, and how hard it is to a make a true account of just what's left
Enjoy Paradise, John. RIP
Love John prine
John will always be a class act.
I seen the drag lines he talked about they were massive
wonderful...blessings
RIP John🕯️
I love this so much!!
Love him 🇨🇱❤️
The song is .....best.
Love you John Prine!! I remember when you took me there and shared your childhood memories with me ! Thank you!!! I will never forget!!!!
RIP JOHN
Whoever thumbs downed this, obviously has no real sense of what music is.
Bluegrass is revolution music. It’s always been revolution music. 💯
RIP John another COVID-19 victim such a great loss
Rein Leidelmeyer He didn’t die of covid. He had health problems a long time. Read the headlines, they want you to think everyone these days are dying of covid. Headlines read “ passed away from complications of covid”. Unfortunately that’s what the public will remember
@@justinmoody7395 you're an idiot
ONE DOWN TOO EARTH MAN JOHN PRINE , R I P
See how sturgill backs up prine and doesn’t take over
AI might be the next "coaltrain" someone will be singing a touching, mournful song about. What an amazing duet! Hopefully our youngsters listen to his profound music, I know mine has :)
The Everly Brothers have a good version of this song. Actually, Don and Phil's version was the first I ever heard of this song.
❤ damn good song
Have you seen Roger Waters' tribute? Absolutely beautiful. R.I.P
New artists can't make me feel this'a way
I come from lil ol place that Mr Peabody's coal company hauled away so much away,,nuthin left but strip pits ,,an empty holes where men like my husband worked in ,,rip john thanks for all u gave us
Sturgill sure can play
Words fail. How wonderful it would have felt to have hugged him.
brilliant
John Prine - "Paradise"
When I was a child my family would travel
Down to Western Kentucky where my parents were born
And there's a backwards old town that's often remembered
So many times that my memories are worn.
[Chorus:]
And daddy won't you take me back to Muhlenberg County
Down by the Green River where Paradise lay
Well, I'm sorry my son, but you're too late in asking
Mister Peabody's coal train has hauled it away
Well, sometimes we'd travel right down the Green River
To the abandoned old prison down by Airdrie Hill
Where the air smelled like snakes and we'd shoot with our pistols
But empty pop bottles was all we would kill.
[Chorus]
And daddy won't you take me back to Muhlenberg County
Down by the Green River where Paradise lay
Well, I'm sorry my son, but you're too late in asking
Mister Peabody's coal train has hauled it away
Then the coal company came with the world's largest shovel
And they tortured the timber and stripped all the land
Well, they dug for their coal till the land was forsaken
Then they wrote it all down as the progress of man.
[Chorus]
And daddy won't you take me back to Muhlenberg County
Down by the Green River where Paradise lay
Well, I'm sorry my son, but you're too late in asking
Mister Peabody's coal train has hauled it away
When I die let my ashes float down the Green River
Let my soul roll on up to the Rochester dam
I'll be halfway to Heaven with Paradise waitin'
Just five miles away from wherever I am.
[Chorus]
And daddy won't you take me back to Muhlenberg County
Down by the Green River where Paradise lay
Well, I'm sorry my son, but you're too late in asking
Mister Peabody's coal train has hauled it away
Get well Mr. Prine.
Amen
Love it
R.I.P JOHN PRINE
RIP...A great talent is gone.
Ain’t that somethin. I bet Ferg was tickled shitless watching this.
Sturgill mic wasn’t even on
John Denver did a version of John P's song that's 'prettier' musically. But the determination in this song is equally emotionally moving. Coal Inc. is ugly on the environment for sure and on us.
and now we know we are in the land of severe climate threat. We have to wonder about those habits of just stripping out what you wanted. For both the people and the land
See you at the "Rochester Dam".
In Butler County!
