4 quick tips to make yourself invisible behind the model:
a) I go sideways and I try to be as slim as possible (see the “Perfect Circles” episode for my exact position).
b) I check where the camera is and I try to be perfectly lined up behind Kim.
c) I’m a bit further away. Try to line-up two potatoes in front of you where the bigger one is behind. If you move it away just enough, it disappears (it gets smaller from the camera point of view).
d) the base of the tube is always brighter, making everything blown out in this area. If I put the flashlight at the top of the tube, I’m very likely to be visible in the final shot.

As a nightscape photographer I totally relate comment about it's going to be hard getting back in the dark 😂.... But you guys also have to constantly hop back and forward over the rocks to check shots, so much potential to slip if you get careless or rush. Do you use a remote release or have the camera constantly shooting on an intervalometer?

haha yes! Constantly going back and forth to check the results, change the settings and fine tune the composition. I use a wireless remote to trigger my shots, but I only do between 5 and 10 before I crawl my way back to the camera. This is actually quite satisfying and insures a good night of sleep 😂😂
