really like your teaching style. No over exaggerated and fake enthusiam. Just explaining things in an easy way. I was ready to sign up for your course then i say it was $1k. Wowza.
This is amazing to have all of this info explained in one video so clearly. I've picked a lot of this up over the years but I've never had it all tied together like this
Best video I had ever seen in you tube to learn something new . I like the way you were teaching about the colors and covered everything about colors . Main part and most informative of all of it was the luminance of the color in the picture . I enjoyed while learning and I subscribed too .
Can we take a moment to just talk about how the damn video is graded! Like! The skin tone of Maarten is on point! 🥹 I feel like my heart is healed from all and any wrongdoing! 😂🫀
Thank you Maarten for sharing this about tone color, ive learn its really hard for me but since i watch you, i understand step by step to do play tone color. Tony Kelly the photographer is the best tone color for me, maybe next video would love to share how he played the tone color
Wow dude, I haven’t seen your videos in years and this one popped up randomly. I didn’t even recognize you until you showed that old video. You look great man, No homo. Loved the video!
Well explained. Can you explain for Cinematographers or for film directors , how to choose a colour palette for different Genre ? I think that would be much helpful for filmmakers.
Great video, great photos in use to help convey this ultimate guide in color theory. One question Maarten: I have been receiving mixed info on what type of color wheel to use, i.e RGB, CYM, etc. When I heard you explain that you use RGB to manipulate color grading in your photos and CYM when you think color theory while taking these photos, I felt the dime falling. I finally understand. But then shortly after you have described this simple approach, you use RGB color wheel to explain the color harmonies in your photos. You lost me. Is this deliberately or have I misunderstood your use of RBG and CYM? Thank you, Lars
Impeccable content Maarten, very educational and detailed to the next level. I would like to ask you or suggest you, could you make a video explaining a little bit the calibration panel in Lightroom?. It may seem obvious but my it tends to be confusing sometimes. For example when should I use it, if it is important or not, what is its function really, that kind of stuff.
Thanks! And thanks for the suggestion. There are a few ways calibration can be handy for skin tone but otherwise I would stay away from it if your a beginner. Maybe a video one day!

OMG took you 5 years, took me only 22 minutes and 44 seconds 😂. Nice place you got there 🎉 Thanks for sharing 😊 And the color is called RED not REED 😂🎉
I love these videos BUT, I never understood how you're supposed to utilize that as we analyze an image after it's been taken. Yes, you can adjust the color in post, but the scene itself already contains the main colors, so you gotta somehow "color edit" before you shoot...
Yes there are a lot of limitations after the photo has been taken. Items of clothing, cars ect etc could easily be changed in photoshop. Or just slightly shifting the hue could make all the difference if shifted to the right color. Or removed all together. Good presets and luts can increase color palettes alswel. Hope that answers your question?
@@MaartenSchrader Yes and no, mate. I'd totally do what you just wrote. I'd play with the hue of certain colors to experiment with some HSL tweaking. Yet, I guess considering or constructing your colors before shooting, considering your scene in your location scouting- that's interesting. How to approach this. I could tell you that I am aware of colors when I shoot, yet, somehow colors end up too saturated [especially if I have to boost them if there was a cloudy day with minimal sun]. And so, colors might feel too much as you might have referred to around @13:50 . I'm not sure what you meant by percent (the angles created by the colors? /how far out the saturation of color is from the center of the circle?] But, yeah, I wonder how can you realize while shooting if you went overboard with the colors/saturation and see how you can fix that for next time. Also, I wonder if there's a way to feed your own images into some app/website- and get those color wheels. Maybe you can noticed if your photography has a pattern to your subconscious color choice [or method, to be percised... triad? monochromatic? etc] - and then, maybe you can do something practical with this information? If you are aware - maybe there are more options to have more control on your final result....
What it’s ryb. Ryb is color perception. Cymk is for print/paint Warm side is bigger than cold side. Once again perception from ryb is not being taken into account You do talk about weights which is good. Almost no one talks about that
@MaartenSchrader my comment was sarcastic 🤣. The music in the background is fine, if viewers are complaining, you can try using side chain compression to duck the music automatically when the vocal comes in
I like the video. Thank you for your work. I have one issue. The background music is kind of too loud for me and my ears. It's not very accessible for people with hearing impairment too. Nevertheless it's a like!
Questions!! How would you keep the colors still feeling the same after you move locations and do different outfits with different colors? As would love to seee a video on going into Lightroom and showing examples
I was never so relaxed while being educated. Love this mood haha
Thanks! You think I was calm to listen to?? I sometimes think I’m too frantic pace the video too fast 😅
