It's sad because it was confirmed that Subaru's parents are depressed because he is gone, they care about him so much that they are even still looking for him every day with no luck.
Sad because it goes less faster for them and from what I read it has been only 2 weeks since Subaru disappeared... I hope they are going to get better after this
I hope the author gives them their son back
Or at least some closure 😭
I hope Subaru is somehow able to travel through worlds like some other isekai protagonists at some point, seeing him say "I'm home" to his depressed parents would probably bring a tear to my eye.....
But this is Re:Zero, the darkest isekai out there.
Ooooof, that stings.
This whole episode was just a rollercoaster of feels man. Subaru is such a relatable character and his parents are absolute angels.
Aside from his dad being just as instantly likeable as Reigen, I love how Subaru's parents have an honeslty pretty believeable response to him and his behavior. They aren't crazy about him skipping school, but they realize that there's more going on inside his head so they don't force him to go back and instead give him encouragement.
@@jameswest6232 For real you would expect actual parents to scream and him and truly tell him how useless he is. But no they understand him. And I really like that.
@@jameswest6232 To add more weight on this scene is how Subamom says that they had Subaru not because he owed them smth but because they genuinely cared for him.
To be fair, this whole episode brought a lot of stuff into quite a meaningful perspective (Rem's speech, Emilia's "little" encouragement, the show's title and a lot more).
@@EmmanQuinones5234 Also, when you think about it, it explains a ton about his ego/pride earlier (particularly, his toxic moments at the beginning of Arc 3).
-
He's more or less riding high after helping everyone surviving the fight in the Slums, fighting the Mabeasts, and saving the village kids. Given how this (arguably wrongly) boosts his ego on top of all the trauma he suffered through and his inability to talk to anyone about it (thanks Satella) aggravating a lot of his worser traits, how he ends up obsessing over Emilia and being her white knight makes more sense.
The part where his dad asks him to make it up to them by taking care of them in their old age... and you can just see Subaru split on the inside. That part destroyed me.
Same man 😢
We all thought Echidna was gonna be the waifu of the season. Then came Subaru's dad.

Up until Subaru, I had never related to a character. His “I realized I’m not special” line hit me the hardest.
The few good father from an anime and their son gets isekeied. Anime really isn’t fair sometimes.
Dude, this is the only Isekei I can think of that actually has a moment where the MC realizes that he'll probably never see his family and old friends again. Given the obvious drama that would bring, I'm surprised more series dont do that.
@@jameswest6232 well most isekais are escapism, so it is usually exactly the purpose not to think about reality, Re: Zero as you see, has the opposite idea, it is set to make the main character face reality no matter if he is in new or old world.
James West if you’ve ever watched log horizon they do something similar in the sense that the dwell on what the characters life was before they were transported to elder tales (amazing show btw)
@@miscellanysreprieve5464 hmm I didn't like the weird shift to politics and then the change in character perspective, but I can more than see why you might enjoy it. It's just not my thing but I can understand why people would enjoy it.
On the other hand, loving mother and father who _don't_ die or receive a fate worse than death for the sake of developing the plot.

@DiaKorrus 18 he didn't confirm they'll never see each other again. Just that the parents are depressed and looking for their son
@David Edosomwan This encourages me to become a dad
i do like how they show how Subaru's parents are like in this episode, they seem to be easygoing but not afraid to knock some sense into subaru if needed
Hm
I mean the way they knock sense into him is pretty easy going.

I really like how they remind us that this is the new Subaru, the one that loves Emilia and is Rem's hero, how this is what made Subaru forgive himself and start again from zero. The old Subaru never looked back home not even once and tried to escape into that new world, he finally has a chance to come to terms with his past and face his fears.
Probably first time seeing a main character have both of his parents alive and be actuall good parents
you should see Clannad isn't exacly the main character is more the main heroine but she still have both of his parents alive and they are pretty good parents
@@martimking1craft ya nagisa’s parents were pretty amazing. Spoilers: but when she died I felt so bad for them and the sanae breakdown scene made me cry a lot. But then again, most of the scenes from ep 17-20 made me cry
@@midnightmoon3661 yeah same I felt so bad
It makes me realize how rare having both loving parents (and them not dying) is in anime. Even in slice of life we only ever see one parent usually.
*One of the most emotional scenes I've ever seen.*
Because for a lot of people this hits close to home.
In a Isekai show
Subaru’s dad definitely had an anime adventure of his own lol.
Dad of the year 2020
There should be best father or an anime award to the person that inspired the MC the most.
Of the year yes...
But the best dad ever is Bondrewd...
If this was an actual reward Re:Zero would win in 2020 and 2021 though the man winning it in 2021 is probably the person you’d least expect it to be
It’s tuff because most anime dads suck
I'm gonna say it right now... Dad of the decade, let's see anyone top this scene by 2030.
"Father headbutt!" Such an eccentric and cool, caring father ❤
I really don't know how I want this to end. Subaru going back to his own world and reunite with his parents and talk things out correctly. Or stay in the other world with the people that he started to like as well. Both would be a hard choice. But I guess, it's a long way to go until then.
Btw, I really like how Isekai finally start to acknowledge again the existence of the previous world. First with Katarina and now with Re:Zero. It really brings another emotional part to the story if done right. And both did it well. Hopefully, the genre learns that just escaping your old life is not the solution to everything. And if you remember, the early Isekais like Digimon did exactly that. The journey through the other world was a learning experience for the real world as well.
Why limit the choice to only one world? Full wish fulfillment would be to connect the two and have both, and introduce his parents to his new friends.
Yeah, a lot of older Isekai like Fushigi Yuugi presented the journey as character development.
Well Subaru seems to be more happy in the Re:Zero world, so I think he would probably stay. Maybe Satella could transport his parents to Re:Zero world for a temporary visit. Or maybe she could allow Subaru to travel between the two worlds. idk how it works but this is just a thought.
Bookworm also acknowledges our world heavily

Amazing! This technique is allowing him to attack and keep his opponent from defending with their arms! It's a perfect offense and defense!
The moment where he realises he might never see his parents again hit me hard, man.
This whole scene is SO GOOD not just because of the genuinely touching heart to heart between Subaru and his dad, but also how it just shows (pretty organically, I might add) how far Subaru has come in how he interacts with others.
Subaru and his fathers relationship mirror me and my dads relationship so closely its almost painful. My dad was the coolest guy in town and everyone loved him; i tried emulating him for so long only to realize im nothing like my father and i couldn’t do anywhere near half the stuff he could do. I ended up eventually closing myself off everyone throughout junior high and high school. Now i look back and realize i don’t have any friends or accomplishments that im that proud of.
Man,I was emotional reading this scene in the Light Novel and even more watching it. They really done a amazing job on animating this. 👍🏼

Spoiler
Its depressing that his parents in the "real world" are suffering because his mom is going through depression and dad is struggling to support her because of Subaru's disappearance. Also because his "closure " with his parents is basically an illusion. Even still, it's good this happened because it helped subaru develop his character.
Was this mentioned in the light novel
Yeah feels bad man, but it’s a logical result if someone you love disappears without any trace or farewell, especially if you depended on them

Boruto, take notes. This is how you do a son dealing with having to live up to his fathers achievements
What, by completely failing to, and being so pathetic he goes hikki over it?
Granted, that would probably improve Boruto, but only in the sense that you can't fall off the floor.
Emperor Pylades you severely misunderstood Subaru’s character I feel sorry for your dumb brain
@@huntertierney5495 which part did I misunderstand? The part where he wasn't able to live up to his father's achievement and then completely failed to build a personality that anyone could tolerate?
Or the part where he's so utterly lacking in character and resolve that he became a hikkikomori over it rather than put in a whit of effort to fix this?
I get that he's improving, but people don't deserve credit for getting to the baseline of being a functional human being.

FATHER HEADBUTT
*kicks Subaru*
Bruh
Out of all the times Subaru literally died this was probably the time he felt the most pain
Subaru's dad is the only one that is chad enough to beat Reinhard
I don't know if this is just Subaru's lack of self esteem or a commentary on Japanese culture but a 17-year-old asking to be thrown out because he hates himself is a serious issue.
I thinks it's more a commentary on people with apathetic views or pessimistic views on their existence really I feel like many people seek a reason to give up to let them know that they've been forsaken so they don't have to try anymore because for a lot of people it's easier to accept giving up then it is to push threw a scapegoat in a sense to know it wasn't really their fault and if everyone's saying I wasn't good enough then that's that right? That means that I don't have to be held as accountable because it was never gonna work right? Things like that which is why he felt like subaru and many other people feel so that they can have an easy out or sometimes they just feel so guilty for not living up to expectations or not progressing at every point in their life to validate their existence as if a relationship is a transaction in a sense so guilt piles up when they're being supported and you feel you're not paying the favor back in some way because they think "well they're doing all this for me but I haven't done a single thing to deserve it" anyways that's my 2 cents on this so yeah lol!
Many tears were shed throughout this episode for me 😭
Where kings and queens cried
"I wanted you to throw me out"
Kenichi: *_Actually i'll make you cry because i love you_*
Subaru life: 1000
*Father Headbutt*

Such an amazing episode, when you realise that they are still looking for him it makes the episode even sadder
The part with Rem made me cry a little.
re:zero has some of the best scenes in anime. emotional to the heart.
This is one of those moments in anime where you just sit in silence as the train of emotions runs over you.
I watched this episode and the only thing that crossed my mind was “Why can’t I have a loving dad.” Not even loving but a dad that cares about what his son does or even is
well if you don't have a loving dad then maybe in the future YOU can become a loving dad.
Rem ... We miss you 😭😭😭😭😭😭

@Anime Sensei I been did
This episode was a real masterpiece. The reason why Subaru acts dumb and goofy is all explained in this episode and its amazing.

I can really relate to subaru, from right before highschool, to even now after I moved back into my moms
They truly are father and son.
Honestly this just shows us why Subaru doesn't give up it's all because of his crazy family
Cried when I saw Rem, great episode
I’m not crying, you are crying.😭😭😭😭😭
I’ll get isekai-ed if u hit me with the feels train too hard 😭
That's an real father right there
It's not often I see an isekai actually involve the parents of the main character. The only I could ever think that did this was Arifureta. One of the short stories at the end of the novel is about Hajime's parents and a dream that they share of him with Yue traveling through Tortus. It was a moment that brought tears to my eyes.
FACT: I was so destroyed by this ep that i didnt even cry for Yui at the Oregairu ep this week.
Dear Crunchyroll, WHY YOU DONT LET ME MOVE ON??!!
Damn this just makes me feel sad for Subaru he had such good parents even if his past and he himself wasn't that good his parents still loved him even if he wanted them to reject him hopefully we will see a future dilemma where Subaru thinks about returning back home if given the chance or staying his his isekai world
The episode was better than I expected it to be, I knew it would be good but I thought it would just be something I wanted to hurry and end. How was this guy so calm when he got isekaid, his family was awesome and he didn’t think about them once (at least in the anime). The greatest part was “SEEING ECHIDNA IN A SCHOOL UNIFORM”!!!!!!

the one complaint about this episode was the White edges.
The Vignette was there to emphasise the fact that this is essentially a dream which just makes these scenes all the more depressing because you realise he’s not actually saying this stuff to his real parents but instead just version of them created out of the memories he has of them
