All memes and fun aside, this is such a sweet scene that shows how far Subaru has come with overcoming hardships that he hasn't realized the simpler things in his life. He felt desensitized over repeating his current save, making hurried decisions and disguising his anguish with a fake smile; However, this scene is so real and despite the dingy prison they are in, they share the most vibrant and alive moment between themselves. Otto's flustered behavior contrasts Subaru's "statue" and stone cold look that warms you up to the idea that maybe, just maybe, this is the right save. A feeling that should never need repeating. Friendship.

I love that in this story any character is relevant. No matter how secondary a character is, it will always have an importance behind it.

After all is gone through, seeing and hearing him laughing in this way, in a genuine and hysterical way, just for the fact that someone helped him only because he saw him like a friend, whiteout wanting anything in return, is something I truly can't describe and I barely could regnognize him

Im Portuguese “amigo” means friend and they translated the name to “migo”,which isn’t a name here so it made even less sense for me first time I watched it
In Spanish they traduced it to "Rodrigo" It's a name similar to "amigo(friend)"

I was totally with Subaru, I was totally expecting ulterior motives from Otto until now. A part of me still is...
But man if this wasn't what Subaru needed. Not unrequited love on either side, not an epic quest or responsibility: a friend. Someone who likes to be with him and wants to save him. I think he was really close to crying there after all :')

Actually heartbreaking he started out expecting to be the strongest person in the world and for every girl he met to love him instantly. But now he cant even comprehend someone wanting to just be his friend.
that was always who he was deep down. Subaru's self-esteem was rock bottom since before he'd ever been isekai'd to a new world, and he couldn't comprehend how anyone could truly care about him unless he put on an antic-filled persona of someone he thinks should be likable (his father). He badly needed people to rally around him and show that they valued him just for him. And honestly, I love that Subaru has some guy friends now and not just love interests and people he needs to look after. It's good for him to just have some buddies he can chill with.

Damn I almost dropped a tear watching this... Real friends are so rare these days. I wish I had a friend like that.
This is equal parts heartwarming and heartbreaking. It was a hearty moment sure, but the fact that it took someone who literally risked his safety to rescue him *explaining* that they're friends hurts. Like, He's THAT desensitized to that cruel, inconsiderate and heartless world that he can't fathom making connections that aren't formed JUST out of selfish personal gain. Why he had to get isekai'd to such a trash universe is beyond me...and the worst part is he can't just level up his stats like all the other Isekai protagonists so he can rofl stomp and put these f*ckers in their place
I guess it's not their world's fault, that's just how reality works, any community of humanoid creatures is bound to have a good amount of cruelty and harshness, especially one set in the medievals

while watching this clip i started crying because the idea of them being friends was so out of Subaru's mind and it shows his mental state at the moment his way of thinking is that he is alone he the only one who can help himself nobody will help him if there were nothing in it for them i mean look at how the last arc of s1 worked out for him nobody helped him no matter how much he pleased and asked them until he offered them information and other things in return so his mindset was that he can't just expect help he has to earn it and he was so shocked to realize that he has friends that he can count on and i have a feeling that otto is going to be the best friend character to Subaru :D
I really like how Otto is becoming more relevant in season 2, cuz in season 1 the guy was barely shown!
Season 1 adapted arcs 1-3. Arcs 2-3 only showed Subaru get development since he the MC and Rem since the purpose of her character was to be likeable enough and fast enough so that they coudl show RBD doesn't solve everything so there can still be stakes, which is why other characters don't get development till the arcs 4 and onward including Emilia since she is the secondary protagonist
They cut out the back and forth they had on the carriage ride in the first loop which helped make it easier to understand why Otto was against letting him go alone, and why Subaru was happy to see him in episode 24
Otto and Subaru are both best boys, this is amazing, this series has a surplus of best boys and I’m here for it

The second arc it was Rem who betrayed him since she acted like she trusted him but was actually responsible for two of his deaths, and third arc he betrayed himself and everyone around him since he lied to himself. And up to this episode he didn't exactly get betrayed, Beatrice said she never cared for him but deep down he knows she's lying, and Garfiel is just protecting everyone from possible danger, Garfiel just locked him up while the trials are being held and once their released from Sanctuary he. Said he would let Subaru go since Garfiel's only goal is to free the one's he cares for
I like how Otto was first introduced in Season 1 he was some random traveller who Subaru pressured to take him to the mansion in emergency, becoming Subaru's closest friend in Season 2
To think I actually thought for a minute that Otto betrayed Subaru for that gemstone and was the kind of guy to sell out Subaru like that.

I love how a lot of times when Subaru is in a breaking point somebody steps up to help keep his mental state stable. The fact that even we doubted Ottos intentions show how deep in the hole he was and got pulled out of there by a real friend

There are some people that still don't trust Otto for what he did to Subaru when they were attacked by the white whale.
Otto is what Subaru needs right now, a true friend that is not related to any of the crazy witch stuff. Hopefully this is the last time loop for now.
Everyone can be considered "crazy" in different loops depending on the situation, even Rem and Ram at a certain point when they attacked Subaru. But according to LN readers, the only reason Otto pushed off Subaru was because he was hearing the thoughts of the white whale, which drove him a bit mad. Otto has the ability to communicate with animals I think, but they never really explained that.

This scene has became my favourite, it’s so simple but it changed Re:zéro to me from a good show to up there in the list, this just made me resolve myself when this season is finished to read the light novel...

Sometimes, it doesn't take saving the world, beating a powerful foe or even getting up after a beatdown to show strength of character.
Sometimes it's simply reaching out a hand to someone in need. It seems like such a simple, easy thing to do, so it's often overlooked... but as someone who's suffered from depression and has attempted suicide in the past, that simple easy act from those I care about saved me.
It showed me I wasn't alone, that I wasn't useless. That, despite how it felt, the kindness I'd tried to put out into the world wasn't unnoticed. Sure, it's embarrassing for the person doing it. Sometimes you screw it up and wish you hadn't said anything, THAT'S the risk that makes it harder than it looks.
Recently I've been doing a lot better, feeling more confident. I've started to realize that along the way, other people have needed help and I've always held out that hand without a second thought, believing it meant nothing.
But more than being strong, more than being smart... the simple bravery of reaching out your hand is what can save a life. It's easy to sympathize with Subaru when you see him be saved by a friend, but remember... you can be Otto too!

@@dolnae1109 I really doubt Ram's a close friend at all. They did have some kind of forming relationship, but it got messed up by the resets and now they're just acquaintances

When you realize that you are not alone and that the people you need have always been next to you and you never noticed them. Otto and Ram are your best Subaru friends
I think this was a really important scene for this show. Something as simple as the word friend has been completely lost to Subaru because everyone who he’s encountered (with the exception of Emilia of course) have solely been looking out for themselves and would have betrayed Subaru in a heartbeat if it meant they would get what they want. He died off cooldown because of it and has to come back with a different approach to work around the situation.

This is a 2 year old ep so no one will prolly see this, but I feel alot of people misunderstand this scene, not to much fault of their own because the anime cuts most of the internal monologue and a good bit of general dialogue that makes certain things harder to understand. Its not as if subaru never had someone who he could truly call a friend up till this point, he was just so deluded by his self hatred and the mental ramifications of return by death that he thought no one he liked truly liked him back besides maybe Rem, Emilia and the village kids. Throughout the anime he has made many connections with people who truly like him
Kinda don’t like how almost every guy has the same eye shape as Subaru when his are supposedly supposed to be sharp glare kind of eyes..
Not as in shape although Subaru eyes are some of the sharpest. They meant as in glare since he has sanpaku eyes. (The Whites of they eye are visible above and below the iris in their natural state

Tum Tum yes yes I already know what sanpaku eyes are, plus even the dude before you already said that. What I’m saying is the eye shape is so darn similar even tho the pupils differ resulting it Subaru having more white. That’s it. The only dudes with different eye shapes I guess are the old dude, red head guy and that guy that fought rem.
