Actually the canoe uses a stapleless construction method. After I got it glassed on the outside. I just lifted it off the station molds, took them off and built a cradle to place the canoe in so I could start work on the inside. I used "Canoecraft" as my bible for the project. If you want to build one, read it. I followed it page by page.
You break out the old staple gun and pin each strip to the station mold. Some true fanatics will clamp the strips to the station molds then tape them to each other. You can find examples of those techniques floating around RUclips. You're in love with strip canoes, can't blame you. I would SUGGEST that you get one of the free boat plans from Spira International or Bateau, kom and build a simple plywood boat first and see if you like the hobby.
Hi Tom, Great video. I am wondering, I never heard you say how you attached the strips to the station molds when you were forming the body. I am thinking of undertaking this project. Thanks.
For the molds, how did you get the shape so perfect? I am trying to find a set of equations for hyperbolas using cartesian coordinates. Is this how you did it?
1st of all, stop what you're doing and go get a beer. It sounds like you need one. 2nd, find a copy of how to build canoes. The owner of the Bear Mountain Boat shop is the book I got but I understand there is a woman who has a prety good one out too. They will sell you the full size templates for the boat and your life will become MUCH easier. Now, go get that beer...
Great intro to canoe building. Beautiful end product!
Nice job- enjoyed your video !...especially like the clamping w/no staple method of joining strips and the handhold decks...nice touch!
Beautiful boat and well edited video! Very nice!
Thanks, Martyn!
Maybe I'll drop it in the pond and paddle over to see ya sometime! I hope the UK is well this time of year.
Good Job Excellent Video your canoe looks really good
D, the was actually a pretty sweet canoe.
i might have to build one someday when i can actually learn to stay on task for more than an hour.

I was wrong. It is a Bear Mountain Prospector. sorry about that...
Mine are pretty trashed. You can get a nice set from Bear Mountain Boats.
Good luck!

Hi where did you get the plans for the ribs and other dimensions would it be possible to have a copy? If not where did you get yours . Many thanks
No, its a custom made cherry yoke I ordered on the internet
I think it is called the ranger but I'm not sure. The books not in front of me.
ok i see, i got the book 3 days ago and have been skimmin through....what model is yours?
how did the strips stay on when you were placing them?
is that middle support a seat to?
what model is your canoe?
I guess "well" is a relative term...
Its worth it!
@dissington
hyperbolas and cartesian coordinates.... I'd need a 6 pack and a buddy with a degree in physics :)
