I want to state - what this hotel was used for isn't really my issue. The fact it was taken out of circulation for so many years - with probably very high occupancy in that time - only to return it to the hotel market in such a poor state afterwards is very poor practice.

@PersonInWorld2I live round the corner from this hotel. It was used often as training/conference place for British Gas, Antique Fairs and the like. It was also very popular with coach trips stopping overnight. It’s a shame they haven’t invested more than the bare minimum in it. I watched with interest as the skips turned up, were filled up and they repainted some of the outside.I was hopeful the place was going to look better than before but alas not. Personally if I had a choice I’d go to the Premier Inn across the road. Thanks for an interesting video.
No thought was given to locals or people who had weddings and other things booked at these places. We were all just expected to put up and shut up when these hotels were contracted out to the government. Britannia deserve to go under.
They can dress it up as much as they want but these people who lived there weren’t big on personal hygiene and bed bugs and lice were a common problem.
Another reason to boycott hotel chains such as this is that in chasing big bucks, all the employees were usually sacked so Serco could put their own "people" in place. So much for having any loyalty to staff.
I feel the same about the Raddison hotels was always a frequent stayer here and around the world would never ever set foot in a Raddison hotel again. The stabbings in Glasgow Raddison blue the aggressive security in other Raddison hotels by foreigners I will never forget that our tax money paid for all that accommodation as our own people slept outside in the cold.🥶

I’m a local person living near the hotel why on earth would you want to stay in the hotel after the immigrants have stayed there I would not trust the hotel to have done very much work to refurbish it
They haven't done much work to refurbish it. They have new beds and new carpets, painted the walls and presume it's been cleaned to a basic standard, so why not? They're just human beings who stayed there, not animals. Rooms are cleaned in between different people staying.
Same as many of the parents of our politicians, jack straw, the millipedes and lord dubs, all were welcomed in and have been crapping on the British ever since
Aren't these hotels when taken over by Government guaranteed occupancy income occupied or not at guaranteed generous rates. On return they are refurbished, all at tax payers expense?
@@kenstevens5065 I know of a hotel in Scotland that "earns" £2M a year. The hotel doesn't have any bills to pay - the govt foots all the utility bill costs for that time. I believe the govt then pays for refurbishments to return it to a "habitable state" akin to what it was like beforehand.
@PersonInWorld2 Thanks for your input. You are correct in my view and it's not just hotels, private landlords also get similar terms for letting their properties. No wonder private rents are through the roof and people are increasingly on the streets.
@@kenstevens5065 No, thanks for YOUR input Ken 🙌. There's no doubt that the number of arrivals are putting a huge strain on accomodation, govt departments, health services, etc, etc...think that's something that the vast majority of people would agree with.
I worked at the Britannia Hotel in Manchester in the 1990s and the reputation wasn't good then. Working practices I had to adhere to were terrible, to say the least. The Britannia Group is consistently named the worst hotel chain for at least 11 years in a row.
@PersonInWorld2 I lasted about 5/6 weeks there. I couldn't take being treated so badly by my manager and the rude guests. It is a bare minimum standard hotel that could be saved if it had new owners.
Accommodation prices has gone through the roof in UK, I was wondering why, then started seeing the videos of what was going on, the amount of people in these migrant hotels is staggering... we are in NZ but visit UK now and again
Well we know they haven't been deported or Starma would be shouting from the rooftops! They are taking the housing our vets and homeless should have got first!!
Orrrr glad it's not smell a vision...ewwwww could you imagine....what lovley people they are please please fill us up with some more.....they are soooo needed and wanted......NOT
Mine too unfortunately. I had hoped they'd have at least used the off-market time to plan a decent relaunch and try to get the local community back on side.
@PersonInWorld2 thanks for the correct information, I thought I read somewhere that the owner was not English. I've only stopped at one Britannia hotel, never again.
Hope all Brittania Hotels are boycotted by the public who have been denied use of them for so long, Brittania chose greed and profit over customers and local residents so now the government money has stopped should be left to stew in their own juice.

Sadly most of the hotels grabbing the govt money did the same thing. Short notice cancellations everywhere.
I will NEVER PAY for a hotel that the immigrants got for FREE. British first.
As long as you work you pay taxes for it 😢
They can dress it up as much as they want but these people who lived there weren’t big on personal hygiene and bed bugs and lice were a common problem.
Sadly, they don't appear to have dressed it up much at all. People can always use the cold tap for a hot wash!! 👀
Boycot these hotels, they wen't after the big bucks with no regard for the surrounding area or impact on local residents.
Sadly, loads of hotels of this standard and much higher have taken the easy $$$
Another reason to boycott hotel chains such as this is that in chasing big bucks, all the employees were usually sacked so Serco could put their own "people" in place. So much for having any loyalty to staff.
For cancelling weddings etc , yes I'd boycott them ,
Mind: the Government must take 99% responsibility. They're the ones with authority. Cheers Stuart.
theyll only put them somewhere better
These places should be left to go out of business.
I know several Britannias in the UK treated staff and users shockingly at the time. 😞

We had a, "walk in" Shower. When i was a, kid in the 60's only back then we called it. Rain ☔.
There is no way I would sleep in those beds
They're completely new beds and bedding.
And how many millions has this cost the taxpayer.
I wouldn't like to even try and add that up 😯

That was part of the contract and looking at the state of the hotel they have slapped paint on the walls whilst charging the tax payers.
I wouldn't stay in any building in the Britannia, chain regardless. I stayed in one once, never again. I did try to claim my money back and failed

Bed bug catchers
Immoral to use these collaborator hotels - dispicable there are 50.000 people at any one time on the streets around UK
Accommodation prices has gone through the roof in UK, I was wondering why, then started seeing the videos of what was going on, the amount of people in these migrant hotels is staggering... we are in NZ but visit UK now and again
For sure. I travel the UK with work and have seen hotel prices rise a lot and availability go down a lot over the last couple of years in particular.
All these greedy hotels need to be given thumbs down reviews on all tourists websites
Bed bugs, lice and the only thing not contaminated the shower. Welcome to Brittania hotels.
It's all new bedding. Think you'll find the regular Britannia's that weren't given over to govt contracts are in a much worse state...
DON'T LOOK UNDER THE BED YOU DO NOT KNOW WHO MAY BE HIDING !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't say Purple Aki 😯😂
The shower was never used ever
I barely got the chance to use it myself. Lukewarm or red hot dribble were the options 😂
Where have those migrants gone now?
they where all kicked out for good reason i believe
All that money down the drain .
@@michaelholt7994 to be fair mate it was only £37 for a night 😂😉
They should send them at the Savoy strand ,or the Mandarin, Marriott, maybe the Goring

the money these places charge per night is bloody criminal anyways
Was £37 a night when I stayed
Where did the migrants go? Houses or deportation I wonder.

They've polished the turd
Taxpayers paid for cleaning it up and new beds
We did
What a load of rubbish, how much was it per night £8.50 ?
About £37 if memory serves...
Wish they would open the metropole in blackpool you should review that
Is that currently shut? I stayed at the Norbreck Castle last summer for a night. It was very cheap for the night.
It was filthy there last time I stayed,I actually felt sorry for the immigrants
Old Billy Butlin is turning in his grave now he knows what the the hotel he owned is being used for
I hope the Metropole is safer
In my experience, a typical Britania hotel.

I think Britannia hotels are owned by an Asian person who obviously knows how to make a pile of money from the taxpayer.
Incorrect. It's a British guy called Alex Langsam. He lives in Austria for 'tax reasons' allegedly.
@PersonInWorld2 thanks for the correct information, I thought I read somewhere that the owner was not English. I've only stopped at one Britannia hotel, never again.
Did not spend a lot then how much a night to stay there ???? What star class is it 1
I paid under £40 a night
This hotel was a decant hostel for a very long time.
I spent my early years in the area, used to go there for Sunday lunch 40 years ago!
It had scabbies and bed bugs never get rid off it so would never stay there..
Will try, but someone in it at the moment x

''Several''???????
Several???
@PersonInWorld2 You dont know your own speak
@ I spek reet I do ;-)
I hope that there is no traces of scabies
They would have had more than enough money to sort it out properly. Who would want to stay there now anyway, god knows whats gone off in those rooms.
You would have to pay me to stay there...In fact no.....I wouldn't stay there.....knock it down and put houses on there...
Try telling the locals round there you want to build more houses in the area...touchy point 😳😂
I wont stay in any hotel that was used for that purpose .
