      Would there really be that much difference? The banding you pointed out would still be present, right? Other than that, the color was spot on. I'm just getting ready to replace an OEM cart (Gray) with PC. The change-over is starting!

    • @cheo1949

      I only said that because OEM would be the base line for the highest top quality results. PC is so darn close to the "Superior" PRO-1000 that it makes you think twice. If you need my ICC let me know

    At 14:19 when the Pro-10 B&W is at an angle you can see the magenta casting. Any surface that exhibits any sort of color cast, at angles they do so even more. At 14:38 when he moves the Pro-1000 B&W in the same position as the Pro-10, and angles the paper you don't really see any casting. Jose was spot on about his observation and these casts can be amplified when you view the print surface at an angle.

    This video answers my questions about the difference between the pro 10 and the pro 1000. Really informative. I am 95% leaning towards buying a Pro 10. Almost convinced. The step towards a pro 1000 is just too pricey, and I need to get things moving and build up some experience with this kind of printer first. Thank you again!

      The truth is the differences are minimal! The PRO-1000 has the advantage in deep blues and purples and reds. But it is all dependent on the image. Tomorrow I will put up a new video of. I've just worked out why my newly bought, refilled, second hand Pro 10S is on half ink after only a dozen or so prints - it gets unplugged after each session so runs through the main cleaning cycle each time! • @cheo1949

      The 100 and 300 are two totally different animals. 100 is DYE and is great on NON MATTE media the PRO-300 is good on Non Matte and great on Matte. The PRO-100 can use 3rd party inks on your OEM carts after modification and the PRO-10 can be refilled easily but the chips can not be reset. So OEM is the only reliable option.

    Hi Jose! Thank you for your videos. I only just started watching your videos and am enjoying your content!
    I am trying to help a client setup a fashion design business, so prints will likely be more design oriented with emphasis on shading, lines and colour accuracy, however, I noticed most of your videos are aimed at photography reproductions. I am leaning towards the Pro-10S, particularly because of the added Chroma Optimizer ink tank and the enhancements it gives.
    My first question is, based on what I need the printer for, are there alternatives in the same league as the Pro-10S, without breaking the bank - the Pro-10S in Australia retails at $950.
    Also, I am taking into account the cost of OEM ink and don't intend on using compatible or refill cartridges. I see in your videos "Exactly how long does it take to saturate the Pro 100 Waste ink Pads" you recommend having 2 sets of cartridges, so that once one cartridge is empty, you would replace the whole set and then take your time to refill the used set and have that ready for the next swap. This is to reduce waste of ink from the purge cycle from replacing the cartridges.
    My second question is, since I am not planning to use refills, replacing the whole set is not going to be feasible. With that in mind, should I replace the empty cartridge as well as any cartridge that are below a certain level (eg. below 5 or 10%)? Or, only replace the cartridge that is empty?
    Thanks again Jose for sharing your expertise with the community. You're a wealth of knowledge.

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  4 года назад +1

      Yes the pro 10s is excellent.
      Australian prices are ridiculously high. Anything above the PRO-10 would probably be astronomical.
      The pads saturate...when they saturate. There is no set time or formula to try to predict it!
      Only a service center can reset the waste ink counter and replace the pads.
      The full cart replacement strategy is only for refillers. Not if you are using OEM only!
      PRO-10 carts can be use till fully empty.

      The NEWS is about the PRO-1-10-and 1000 the PRO-100 is coming and it is not finalized yet but there will be an improved much less fade prone Yellow and Black inks. These are the main problem colors in MOST Dye Ink Sets concerning longevity.

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  6 лет назад +3

      All three models are just as old.
      The pro-100/10 have full support for refilling.
      The 100 carts require modification.
      The 10 does not.
      Both carts are small
      Wi-Fi is Not the best way to print images.
      USB is the most reliable.
      The PRO-1 can be refilled but you need modified carts which I sell plus single use chips you must install because the OEM chips can not be reset like those of the 100/10.
      Now since you want to sell, all are suitable. But if you are going to use 3rd party inks then the 100 is out. Only the 10 and 1 are you best candidates.
      Supplies for all can be purchased from www.precisioncolors.com

      Both. They only difference is the 100 is Dye and the 10 is pigment. If you print on glossy 4x6 the go with the 100. If you print on finer art papers go with 10. The 100 is out of production and folk who bought them with massive rebates obtained several. I've seen them for a grand.

    Hi Jose, Thank you for the videos you have been posting. I know this is older video but I am in the market for a printer, to start printing you own work. I have to say I am a bit confused and going back and forth with which Canon printer to get. I have been leaning to get the Pro 10 but when I think about the future and maybe looking to print larger and also to have a more current model I am thinking that the 1000 might be best. Right now at B&H has good deals on both with rebate. Unless you know of a better deal out there? :) Any way over the last few day I have watched a few of you video and subscribe to your channel. One of you videos you talk about being new to printing and not going all in. I can respect that but what about the age of the Pro 10 model on the market and being a bit behind in the next few years when something newer comes out? So I am curious what you advise would be for someone that is not going to print like an animal but still wants great quality? Oh yeah, I will mostly be printing black and white images. Thanks, Dave

    I'm confused between pro100 and pro10 for archival quality fine art printing. Are the inks of pro100 archival inks like pro10 or only high quality inks? I understand that pro100 uses dye based ink and pro10 uses pigment based ink, but people are saying both are good quality. Please advice. Thank you.

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  5 лет назад +1

      Just what do you mean by archival? Will the PRO-100 OEM ink prints last decades? Yes!
      Will the PRO-10 OEM Ink Prints last decades? Yes!
      It's not so much the inks any longer. The paper is just as important.
      Your print viewing conditions and environment will also have a HUGE effect on so called longevity. There are TONS of variables.
      So Prints can last months before they show first signs of fading or last Decades before they show signs of fading.
      Just use the best inks and the best Papers ( Non Resin Coated but Fine art papers without OBAs ) and protect your prints before displaying ie Frames under glass and coatings and they will have the best start against environmental fading.

    Hi Jose, I've had the Canon Pro 10s for about a year and whilst I think it's a good printer in terms of quality, I do find it seems to run the regular (not deep) cleaning cycle pretty much what seems like non-stop. Well, not literally, but whenever I turn it on it does it, prior to printing it does it, if I print then wait a few minutes and print again, it runs the cleaning cycle again! Do you know if this is normal? I know it needs to keep the nozzles clear but the amount of self-cleaning it does seems crazy. Thanks!

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  5 лет назад

      When you say Turn It On do you mean Power it on from the Power button?
      That's your problem.
      You should never ever power off any of the CANON PRO series printers.
      The PRO-10 will run a large ( Long ) cleaning cycle when you power it off.
      There are also timed cycles that will be triggered after 60 hours between the LAST cleaning cycle that was triggered.
      So if you sent a print job at noon today and it was preceded by a cleaning cycle, you will be to print as much or as little as possible for the next 60 hours without a print job being initiated with a cleaning. Once 60 and one second passes from that one previous cleaning cycle, then the NEXT print job you generate WILL be preceded by a cleaning cycle and the clock starts all over again. I don't think you've see all my videos on this subject. I've beaten it to death. There is NOTHING that we do about these type of auto maintenance as it is, believe it of not, required by Thermal Printhead Technology,

    Hi there Jose. I'm a bit excited at the thought of printing my own work. I have spent about 2000 dollars sending my work out to be printed over the last 4 years. I do have some questions:
    1. I hope to be refilling the carts. What do I need to get started? the redresetter, the inks from precision color, and do I need a scale as well?
    2. you mention having 2 sets of carts. can the original, "starter" cartridges which come with the printer be refilled? Should I buy used, empty cartridges on Ebay?
    3. Do you advise buying the papers from Canon, or are there similar papers for cheaper elsewhere?
    thank you.

      Glad to hear you are about to enter the World of Home Photo Printing!
      I assume you have a PRO-100 due to your questions?
      1: Yes get the refilling kit with the Squeeze Bottles rather than syringes. You will be replacing the original Yellow cart with the replacement already modified one they will provide you. You will switch the chip from your OEM yellow to that one. No you do not need a scale for the PRO-100 refilling as the carts are transparent.
      2: Yes the original Setup Carts can be modified and used as part of your first set to modify for refilling except for the YELLOW!
      Yes try to find empties in EBAY or buy a second set. In the end it is really a must to have two full sets of carts. Buy an extra replacement Yellow cart as well from PC.
      3: CANON Pares well extremely well but so you other manufacturer's papers. I would recommend Red River as a source for reasonably priced great quality papers. Precisioncolors also provides FREE profiles for Red Rive Papers for their inks as well for many other makes.
      I will also be providing custom profiling services for a fee beginning next week.
      Hope I was able to answer your questions and thank you for watching.

      If you plan on printing only on glossy or luster papers choose the 100. If you ever plan on printing on other types of fine art papers then choose the 10. Refilling will reduce cost but at the cost of quality and longevity. Refilling can also cause problems if not done correctly.

    Jose, I just watched this video because I have been reading about the Pro 10. I have a Pro 100 and I am thinking about getting a Pro 10 to replace it. From the comparisons in this video it seems that the color production and quality is virtually the same in the two printers. I know the Pro 100 uses dye inks and the Pro 10 uses pigment inks, and thus decreases fading over time. Given PC's new ink formulations for both, are there any other benefits for the Pro 10 I should consider? Particularly considering that I can spray and frame my Pro 100 prints to reduce fading.

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  4 года назад

      Fading will be much less when using Pigment inks but fading has a lot to more to do with the paper you print on and your display conditions. If I want my PRO-100 prints done with non OEM inks I will simply apply a coat of something like MOAB Desert Varnish and that will increase longevity MANY fold. Where Pigment inks have the advantage is when printing on MATTE and Canvas Media!

      The 10 and 100 do not use the same carts. Totally different. The PRO-100 is sponge based and a bit tricky to get just right after refilling and the PRO-10 uses a cart with an internal ink bag and is a piece of cake to reset and refill.

    2. In this video you say you double profiled and produced a poor quality print. Could you explain please as I am on the brink of choosing my 1st photo printer and need to know as much as possible about our hobby. Many thanks

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  5 лет назад

      I'll give you a quick explanation but what I will suggest is that you start checking out my color management playlist where I have tons of videos pertaining to color management how to approach it using different applications and so forth and Specific Instructions for Epson as well as Canon printers. Okay so the reason you want to turn off color Management, on an Epson you would turn off color managed workflow and a Canon printer you click on color - Manual Adnustment and then Matching and then you choose None. What you are doing is you're preventing both the driver as well as the application to both control color which will result in a very very bad print. You want either the driver to do it or the application to control color through a paper ICC profile specific for that paper but I suggest in the beginning is just simply let the driver do the job. Print only on papers that are specific to that printer in other words if it's a Canon printer use Canon paper if it's an Epson printer use Epson paper and just take it slow my friend. It'll come to you. Just like with anything new, there is a learning curve that you need to get through but once you get it you'll have that aha moment and you'll be able to do it without even thinking about it. As I mentioned and suggested, go ahead and follow some of the videos that I have on that particular playlist which is the Color Managed Workflow for everything you will ever need to know about printing on Canon and Epson using Photoshop Lightroom and Qimage.

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  5 лет назад

      There is no clear answer. It could be 10x or 3x times faster. Environmental conditions are the biggest contributor to fading. There is no clear data available other than very limited uv lightvfade tests by Aardenburg for PC pro1000 nd Pro luster paper. It was rated as highly fugitive compared to oem. Yes it is water and finger print resistant but is all depends on the paper, whether it is one inks or not.

      @Whatisright 6 лет назад

    • @cheo1949

      The PRO-100 requires modification of the carts and has to be done correctly and the refilling process done correctly and at the right ink level for it to work correctly. The PRO-10 requires zero modification and refilling is just a matter of physically and directly dripping ink drop by drop on to the exit sponge until you reach a weight of 32 grams. Resetting is the same for both types of carts. I have numerous videos on both refilling techniques!

      What makes you think that you need a new purge pad? If you really need a new purge pad you would need a service manual which even I don't. You probably just have a gunky purge unit gasket so it can not real and so cannot apply full vacuum to the nozzle plate. Thus cleaning cycles are not doing anything. Long Q-TIPs and alcohol plus careful cleaning of the peripheral purge pad gasket will clean the gunk and hopefully restore full suction.

    Im having a 4 year old Pixma Pro-1 that needs replacement... Im using Ilford smooth pearl and luster paper (papers with slight pearly gloss) almost exclusively.. printing A4, A3 and 5x7..i print borderless.. I love the pixma pro-1 prints but i think the carts are expensive and the printing time is very long... I have learned to use the machine but i just want something that produces beautiful prints... I sell my prints to clients..Is Pixma Pro 100s a good choice?

      It's a downgrade in my opinion but it will do the job. Use OEM for longevity as it is dye inks. Not good at all for Matte but great for the type you use.

      Jose Rodriguez thanks for the reply 😊... would the step up to the 10s give me benefits?(also considering Its client work)Im thinking about print quality , egonomy and speed.. i found the Pro-1 slow.. but again Very handsome prints :-)

      The pro-1 was never touted as a production grade printer. It is a one at a time type printer where you take you time with the process.
      The pro-10 will not print any faster. The print quality should about equal though maybe a bit less due to the missing two grays.

      No idea. Supposedly decades for both. There aren't many actual accelerated tests to provide the info you need. Check Aardenburg imagine for possible results. Longevity is not just about inks but hugely based on the paper used. As much as a 10 fold difference.

    Hello Jose, thanks for all your previous answers ! In the meantime I’ve tried to watch quite many of your previous posts which are great ! I’m still hovering between pro 10, 100 or epson p600. I’m quite a beginner and therefor I think that one of these printers are the best option instead of buying a pro 1000 (although I would love to use the pro 1000 :-). My approach now is to start with one of these printers to learn the printing process and then swicht to the much beloved pro 1000...
    I don’t think I’m going to use 3rd party inkts, so I’ll stick to OEM carts. Sometimes, I ‘ve read on several forums that the pro 100S might show some banding issues, which is something I definitely would hate photographing nature and so ? What is your experience on banding between the 3 printers abovementioned ? Then, I also read the epson printer is better in B/W on matte paper... Even, after viewing your posts, It remains a tough choose (for you it is not since you have all three of them ;-)
    Another question: which paper is best to start with on one of these printers ?

    • @gandalf253
      @gandalf253 4 года назад

      I think I used the wrong word in my previous post: it is not ‘banding’ that I mean but unequal tonal changes in, lets say, a beautiful sky that gradually changes in colour. I don’t know how one should call these kinds of ‘colour bands’. So, is this only due to jpg-artefacts or also from physical differences between different printers ?

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  4 года назад +2

      The truth is all three printer will print smooth gradations. Don't ever print from an over compressed jpg.

      Three totally different printers. The 100 though officially retailing for $400+ can be had for as low as $50 net after rebates. Dye Ink great for glossy or luster satin prints. Not so great for anything else. If you just want to print for fun and learn the process before moving up then the 100 is the one for you. The PRO-10 takes it up a few notches. Pigment ink set plus chroma optimizer for printing on pretty much anything. Much higher longevity and realism in the results. The PRO-1000 is a professional level printer requiring a whole new level of user commitment most are not really ready for.

Which is good for people looking for a printer but to get more viewers to come back not just to get informations but viewers comes for the entertainment value also. It would be better and get extra viewers, if you injected some humor into your information. For example: CANON PRO 10 is great, pro 100 is better and the pro 1000 is a little better then the pro 100.
