I read your review over 2 years ago and then purchased a Canon Pixma Pro 100 which I am still very please with. I also want to thank you for the mention of Precision Color. Their replacement inks work great and while I spent about $100 getting set up with their chip reset device and inks I will likely not need addition supplies for 3 or 4 more years. Huge savings and making all printing on this printer very reasonable if not just damn cheap. Thanks!!

Excellent product review! My dad wants to buy this to accommodate thicker paper (cardstock, actually), which will be used to print photos from a basic point-and-shoot camera. I could be wrong, but it may be too much features than he really needs.

After I open up my old photo albums from my childhood days ago, I really want to print my photos right now. I wanna print the photos till I have grandchild. It's so much different when you see physical photo album rather than digital one, the feels of nostalgia is sooo strong. I think I will buy this printer someday, or maybe the better printer.
Canon matt paper.... the hard part is printing on the correct side since neither side is marked and they look the same. I got some free Matt paper when I purchased ink from Canon. My prints looked really bad. I finally called Canon support to ask how to tell the proper side... they said press a moistened finger to the surface. It will stick a little. It works for me. Prints look fine but sort of soft which is the purpose of Matt paper (not a matt finish).
PS. If you are avoiding a pop filter because they are so huge and might visually interfere with the video, take a look at this much smaller one from BSW: BSW RE27POP. I actually bought 2 of these and mounted them both on my mic to get the double screen no "pop" can get through. They are not much greater in diameter than my mic itself and work great.

Tim, you may have just tipped the scale for me buying this printer and I enjoyed your video. Having read the comments it is obvious you have a very sophisticated audience with good info as well. As far as the cost of this vs. pro printing, I say: at least we can answer that 90's Q about what the heck we are going to do with these "personal" computers.
I have a 13x19 b/w print of a man wearing a denim shirt, and the threads are sharp. And, I made a print with a black sky with a moon added. I couldn't see the edges of the moon when erasing them and I missed two. I didn't see that in the print, either, but he framer did when he looked across the print at an angle. The printer maintained the integrity of the image detail and the Canson paper's black holdout printed the detail.
Just got one of these for $49 shipped from Adorama w/Free paper. Amazing deal. First handful of prints on 8.5x11" Luster look terrific. Can't wait to try the larger size. The short USB was the only real hassle, because I had to locate my printer across the room...which meant moving the table over a rug...printer is indeed HEAVY. Wireless set up like a breeze with USB. No luck trying to do it wirelessly...which is kinda odd for a "wireless" printer....Oh well Works great now.

For Windows 10, you NEED to install the driver from the Epson website to get Print Studio Pro to work otherwise you'll get a "print studio pro a printer supported by this software is not found..." error. Took me 45 minutes of forum searches and finally, I just install the driver from Epson.
The Mac I have didn't need to install from Epson, it did it automatically.
I was about to sell my printer and go back to epson., I could never get the colors right on this printer. Great video man.

Great printer, got new pro 100 on ebay for $75.00 free shipping, got paper too, very heavy, wireless works great, and beautiful pictures, i usually print 13x19 prints, and the after market ink works great also, i fill my own cartridges and also works good. i got to say easy setup and great looking photos, works well
Pro tip:
Do not simply just connect your printer via USB straight to your computer (Windows and Macs) and select 'add printer'. By doing only this you will be running the printer on a generic driver that has limited features ... instead make sure to go to the official Canon website and download the driver which will give you full printing capabilities

Nice review. I just bought it and must admit it is the most unfriendly user printer I have ever bought. I’m even thinking of returning it. I cannot download the Print Pro software, I can’t even print on a normal page of paper using the rear feeder. I don’t know what I should do.

I'm not happy with matt paper, even Hahnemuehle. However, Hahnemuhle's William Truner paper has a watercolor paper texture, and that works fine. 13x19" sheets of Canson or Hahnemuehle paper costs about $4, and a comparable print from Whitewall will run about $35 or more, so the printer will pay for itself on top-quality prints. I use USB all the time.

Excellent recommendation! Amazing prints once I got past the "peachy/pink" issue, a call to Canon technical support (excellent customer service btw) solved that as I could not find the plug in that would load.

Need some advice...I'm a true amateur looking for good prints but without the skill or software to do the technical setup described in this video. I found this printer for $149 after rebates on B&H, so am tempted to buy. Is this too much printer for me if I'm not willing and able to do all of the setup?

`the cost of the ink is very high`- thats probably why they put the ´light and the pling´ to brighten you up a little when you open the lid and install the ink after you bought them.

hi i want get this printer for use with my photography but i also want to makes CD's and DVD's i know you can print on discs but can i when making the covers print accurately on the over side so that the back and front of the cover are in line when using double sided paper for this? i know this printer doesn't print double sided automatically so i will have to turn the paper manually
Hey I am having trouble printing from photoshop to the pro 100. You talked about how there is a plug in and some other ways of printing. Can you help? Also my computer is saying the printer is off line. Oh and I have a windows computer.

What frame/matte sizes do you recommend for 13x19 prints? A3+ doesn't seem to be a popular US size!
I thank you for the informative video. However, I have a comment on your audio set-up. The foam windscreen over your mic is not working well as a pop-screen. Listen to when you say "paper" or "pixels" close to the mic and you will hear the "pops", which are distracting for your otherwise great video. My suggestion is that you pick up a genuine pop filter. These are cheap, $20. Get one with a double screen. Do a search at Amazon for "pop screen double" and you will see several choices. Cheers!
How much better is the imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 compared to the Pixma Pro 100 (other than that the 1000 costs way more)?
to every type of paper you have to calibrate your printer (brightness and contrast test) or the setting for canon luster paper will work for canon semi-gloss ?

I'm having trouble getting my canon psp plug-in to download in my Lightroom Classic. Can anyone help me? It says "a version of adobe photoshop supported by print studio pro is not installed". I have Lightroom Classic but I can't get it to work. Aaaaaa!
How can I add the printer to my mac? I have run the driver and installed everything, but I still can't find the printer in my mac's settings.
We just purchased this printer a few months ago and are still struggling to learn how to use it properly. It prints pretty good on the photo papers, although a little darker than the monitor image. But I can't get it to print the regular paper well, like typing paper and what not. The colors just comes out so feeble. Can anybody tell me how to print on regular papers? The paper type setting only has basically matte, semi-gloss, gloss, and platinum, which refer to the photo paper grades.
I want to print the images on regular paper, or stationery so I can send the image on my letters. Any advice? I'd appreciate it.

mate you don't need to wait 100 years to find out if it will last that long, the are pretty accurate tests that can provide such information so next time avoid such misinformation ;)

Can you print with regular plain paper and get similar quality results?
Nice review. I find that using Canon's Premium Matte gives a wonderful image in b&w. You were not impressed with their Matte paper, which is a lighter and perhaps much different item than Premium Matte.. All in all, this a terrific printer but ink is expensive. Canon often tosses in free paper when ypu buy ink from Canon and pays for delivery too.
