Whenever critics talk about Republican tax cuts they only point to bottom rate increase, ignoring that the income that is taxable at that rate is increased due to the increase in the standard deduction. Even if you're taxed at the higher rate less of your income is taxed at it , and more of your income isn't taxed at all.
Except along with that higher standard deduction they eliminated the personal exemptions. So the deductions are pretty near a wash. So, yes you will pay higher taxes. Also, many people will lost a lot of deductions. Contract workers for example. And high property tax states. Texas has some of the highest in the country.
