Ensoniq did it all. Poly Aftertouch. Samplers. Digital Osc's into analog filters. Transwaves. Multitimbral. Workstations. Incredible keyboard splits and layers. Totally underrated. Thanks for all the great vids. Wish I had more time to watch them all, I'm tryin'.
Yeah, the first patch he played (Best Pad) sounded like a variation on the D50 "Staccato heaven" patch. And the third one (Borealis Pad) had a lot in common with the D50 'Fantasia' patch. The second patch (Genesis) reminded me more of the Korg wavestation however.
man you have all my favorite synths from the 90s. this is so delicious and lush sounding. the EPS was my first sampler in 1998. I was huge fan of Ensoniq synths and samplers, heavy instruments with massive sounds. the dark blue LCD screens are so cool looking but what a pain in the ass to program they are! TS-12 was on my wish list in the mid 90s but I ended up getting a Roland XP50 instead.. which I still play every day :D
I love this! I have a TS12 myself and I don't think it gets enough attention as to what a great synth it really is. Strangely enough, the 808 drum-kit that this comes with sounds amazing!
My first Ensoniq was an ESQ-1, which I loved for being multi-timbral (even though I hated the whole move from knobs to buttons thing in the 80's). I still have an Ensoniq SQ2 as my main controller (since it's my only 76-key unit), but also love a lot of it's built-in sounds (I have several factory demos of it on my channel...maybe some non-factory one since I can't verify), which sound quite similar to this. My main gripe about Ensoniq synths is that only the first few models that had analog filters were resonant...all the later digital filters (as far as I know) are non-resonant, so even if I build some basic saw or square wave sounds, I can't add resonance to them to try to mimic older analog sounds.
Hi I bought mine around 1990, cannot believe it's been almost 30 years. I loved its sequencer but always felt SQ series sounded 'brittle'. Of course we are supposed to program patches we like ourselves... I wonder how the SQ series was received when released? I guess it was competing(?) with mighty M1 or SY77. Cheers!
Ah yes, thank you! I used to have a few more Ensoniq synths and samplers in the '90s, but sold them all during a big 2008 slim-down sale. I'm going to try to buy them all again
Hi Paolo, some great sounds there! I'm a beginner player looking at 2nd hand ESQ-1,SQ-80, TS-10, TS-12, budget is $500-800 depending on the model. Can someone please tell me pros and cons of each model? I know SQ-80 has disk drive and aftertouch, but I read somewhere the ESQ-1 had a more durable keyboard? How do the different keyboards compare in feeling? I don't like too heavy hammer actions (TS-12?)... I'm looking for warm 80s analogue type sounds... Being able to practice some piano on it would be a bonus but not a requirement. I'd prefer the synth to act like a proper synth in feeling and sound :)
Shame Ensoniq and Emu don’t make synths anymore. Would be wild to see what they could come out with in today’s market. Seems to be a big focus on analog synths these days but very little in the sampler category (Prophet X and Quantum off the top of my head) and even less in the digital or FM synth category.
...and Kawai...and Elka/Generalmusic (GEM)...and Technics (WSA1!!!)...and Akai (AX-series)...and Siel...and Oberheim (the Behringer UB-Xa might help out here someday...)...and also Casio (with the exception of the XW-P1 / XW-G1). In addition it's unbelievable that 19 inch synth modules have already disappeared from the market. But why??? Are we all supposed to sit in front of a small table with a couple of monophonic mini-synths? And when will Yamaha finally give rebirth to the PortaSound series of keyboards to have a good starting point for kids (for example an 8-bit sampler with synth-edit sliders, AN1x filter section, some effects and USB/Midi-ports in an RGB-coloured casing)? >>> What a sad and uncreative world.
@@sauermusicDE Well Kawai is focusing on their MP piano line, same with GEM and their new Promega. Oberheim was making SEM based synths for a while but has since ceased production (there are rumors that Sequential may purchase or partner with him but who knows).
@@DestroyER82 Ehh all is, is a scaled down version of the Montage. Despite being advertised as a synth...it feels more like a workstation rather than a dedicated FM based DX or TX.

Sorry, but the filters were digital. Great sounds anyway.
Can't believe I bought it about 25 years ago. Time have passed. Still in great condition. The Synth as well.
Underrated little machines these Ensoniqs...don’t know if it’s just me but I’m getting some D50 vibes from these patches 😊
That's the breathing.
Definitely!

There's also a "Fantasia' patch on the TS, that sounds very close to the original
MacXpert74 ...or even the D50’s “DigitalNativeDance” funky little loop

Instant 90’s movie soundtracks!

The TS-12 is one of favorite keyboards in my very small collection, right alongside the ESQ-1. So many good sound possibilities!
Can you please give your opinion of pros and cons for ESQ-1 vs TS-12 :)
Epic. Haunting. Beautiful. Thank you for sharing Paolo.

I agree wholeheartedly - whoever sampled that 808 kit deserves a raise (and I have a real TR-808)
Yep That massive base drum is Spot on
Toujours top les sons Ensoniq bravo pour la performance.
Amitiés Michel
:^) Merci
I owned several Ensoniq, and I can say for me are the best machines with Kurzweil too
Yeah, definitely quality, I used to have a lot of Ensoniq samplers and synths in the '90s, regret selling them. I'm gonna try to get them all again.
just picked up an EPS16 turbo after not having an EPS for years and yeah these boxes were definitely more than the sum of their parts
Just picked one of these up for 300 - what an awesome sounding board! I need to get into programming it. The keyboard is really awesome to play
Yes, the keyboard is really quite good, and I agree, the sound is great
Oh my god, I do enjoy sound Ensoniq`s!!! You can still, more reviews sounds?
Thank you for this demo! This one (or the TS-10 rather) has always been on my mind.
I think I'm in love with this Ensoniq

What an amazing machine!
I always love to use my TS10 since the 90s... I also put him as a star in a new music-video
I still have my SD1 and still has sounds that would blow any current hardware or software synth away.
I NEED THIS!!!!!! Great for a Project Full band Project!
Imagine how advanced Ensoniq Synths would of been today if E-mu (creative labs ?) would have not murdered Ensoniq
It was Creative Labs who killed both
@@chhangzhou Creative Labs bought both of them (Ensoniq, E-Mu) and is pretty much entirely responsive for the demise of both companies.
@@SpeedySPCFan Why was the reasons that they were perished? 🙁
ensoniq ts 12 i love you forever the best
Still have my SQ-2 that I bought from my Jazz Band teacher back in HS (2005).
Voice ensonig TS 10 / 12 🙏👍
i love my SQ-1 and i'm still using it
I own the SQR too! Do you have patches?:)

that Genesis patch!
It's a way like a Korg wavestation but with more complex waves ?
Can you Please do Limahl Never Ending Story Linn drum pattern please 😊 and nice work
Do these sounds come stock with the synth? Is there a VST version of these sounds?
I bought it in 1994 for 3000 dollars. Cool sound

I wish I'd kept my Ensoniq gear.
i do have this synth, but i use it as a master/midi keyboard :)
It's got a nice weighted touch but definitely use the sound too if you can ... they are good
@@SynthManiaDotCom hi :) i would if it didnt stop producing sounds...it went silent :(
i have a lot of sample disks too that i want to use
@@bobfrode Yeah, definitely get it repaired... they don't make keyboards with this type of quality anymore..
Question: Ensoniq has copied Roland & Korg sounds or inverse?
Perhaps some cross-pollination rather than copying... buy yeah, there's some influx from both D-50 style and Wavestation style. It was just that era.
Are you playing some Beethoven music?
Location?

Yamaha recently released new FM focused synth and it actually is quite great. (MODX series)
