I really get the part where you said that Gaio needs to think before reacting and this is exactly what I'v been looking for with my own horse that also reacts before even looking at what spooked her and then realizing it was nothing to get spooked about. I love the commentary at the end, “ok, spooking, spooking, bolting…” made me laugh, and as a rider I could practically *feel* the horse just spring-loading for the bolt.
I love the way how Jesse is not taking himself and everything dead serious. And by the way does lots of things intuitively right...like e.g. to canter slowly round those poles. So Gaio didn't have to choose cross-canter to keep his balance. Jesse is honest, loving and unpretentious in his approach to horses. ❤ 👍 🙂

Normally obstacle course training is all on foot first. You might take an entire session to do one obstacle. You gradually add on tricks as you go through an entire course. For Giao to do this course mounted and finish it completely in one sitting is remarkable and a testament to how well trained he is.
An idea to try next: set up 3 barrels in a large triangle like in American Rodeos and have him run barrels. Oh and I like the bareback pad and the no bit bridle. The bareback pad would be very marketable. Nice video. Like seeing doing something fun.
Gaio is a beautiful horse, as is Jesse. Jesse is pure joy. He whole nature is so loveable. Matt and Jesse get along so well, they suit one another. Happy Holidays.

I think, for his first go at working equitation, he's just the right sort of horse to get into this. How about showing viewers a clip of one of the top Portuguese riders, but not the speed trial. Matt wants speed! Horse not ready, needs to understand its a game. I'm old and done, grounded, but I do love watching the experts, and plenty of non-horsy people come here to admire your skills, without knowing what the goal is, so a clip please. Gaio is very good at the "short canter" required to negotiate everything carefully and neatly, plus they are not at all concerned about head carriage, just hold at wherever they "pack their head" and never a twitch of tail or anything, so calm and perfect, very aware and looking for each obstacle and seem to enjoy it. But Gaio has it, he could come to this. Greetings from Australia.

This excercise was alot of fun and both you two guys are so cute, here in the USA we do alot of obstacle training and it's an awesome way to keep your horses excited about their jobs. Love to see you doing this with the big boys as well, get some barrels

I love jumping on a 30 yr old ex eventer. He’s a lesson pony now and mostly works with little kids, but he still really enjoys cross country and bareback jumping. I want to do more bareback on him, and maybe convince my instructor to let us compete. He gets so happy and just races around when we’re bareback like he’s young again. I have been looking for a bareback pad so that I don’t hurt his old back. I hope this is for sale soon😁
