Frank later let them know that they could not sing any of the songs AFTER they were in the contract. They were scammed. It's not hard to understand. And it was not about going along with the plan, they were FORCED to do it because of the contract that was already signed. There was also no legal representation to protect their interests. So how is it still their fault? It's Frank's fault.

We're tired of this story. This had been happening all the time in the music and film industry where actors use doubles for scenes they can't play or refuse to do for whatever reason. The boys didn't refuse to sing. They weren't allowed to and it wasn't their idea. The stories should be focusing on the real brains behind the scam and stop blaming the two boys who in my opinion were the actual victims.

Frank Farian should've seriously been sued big. He was the creator of the deception and he should seriously be ashamed of what he did. He ruined the lifes of Rob and Fab and he betrayed the actual singers of the group and they wanted to be famous themselves. Not only that he swindled money from the fans and betrayed them so badly. Farian seriously deserves no honor and no respect for what he did and he's the one who should be owing money.

Why? In the original European album, neither Rob nor Fab were credited as vocalists. It was the American album that had them credited as vocalists, so although Frank Fabian created them, it wasn't something that hadn't been done before by him and others in European soil: aka hiring models as front runners, being the face of groups while they were not singing. From this point of view it was the American label at fault plus the boys who probably thought it was a way to get out of the reach of Frank and they all made the American LP which had them credited as vocalists, and it was also the american label that promoted them to the Grammys and the boys accepted to go and lipsync during the live show, while the grammys are always live, paying thousands if not millions of dollars to cover their fraud. Frank didn't have any part in that and actually didn't want any of that.
AND the people who put them out there should've also been removed from recording. DISGRACE!!!

Since technology has advanced to make horrible voices tolerable, milli vanilli style composites have become the template for industry music production. Overall it sucks and it’s plastic but people eat it up. Who do you think writes most of the hooks in modern R&B and rap? Some of the most iconic beats and fills in the history of “black music” were written by white producers. It’s a dirty little open secret. On the flip side their impact on the psyche of the public helped give alt rock/grunge momentum imo.
Jennifer Lopez been doing that for years using Ashanti's voice and any other person voice that's she can get away with, so leave Milli vanilli alone dang
And yet people act like she's the goat, plus the only reason she became famous in the first place was because of her role as Selena Quintanilla from that movie that came out 2 years after her death. If Selena was still alive, we probably wouldn't have Jlo.

The vocal alone couldn't make it to those successes. Call them fraud, call them anything, without their charisma, without their images the album isn't going anywhere.
Fab has since sung this song live and his real voice is amazing.

@@ericeck - Lip synching is lip synching. What's the difference if you're lip synching your own voice or someone else's voice. If you can't actually sing the song, then you can't sing it. That's why people say it. Alot of talentless artists who look good go into a studio and have their tracks fixed to sound better than what they actually are. Might as well be lip synching someone else's voice. Milli Vanilli's success shows that people are more interested in what they are looking at rather than the music. Otherwise the original singers would have been stars long before Rob and Fab showed up. And we don't know who is lip synching who. You assume that Taylor Swift is lip synching Taylor Swift but you don't know. No one knows that on Bobby Brown's hit song Every Little Step, the vocals of the chorus change from Bobby Brown to Ralph Tresvant because Bobby Brown never showed up to finish the track? Lip synching is lip synching.

I met them back in 91 during the club mtv tour with downtown Julie brown they were very laid back chill guys & yes they were destined to be music stars expecially rob he was very drivin & it's a shame how the music business treated these guys & rob never got a chance to experience his musical talent except on their rob n fab album which was a amazing job & they should have gotten credit were credit was due!!!
What I never understood is why they were hired by the original singers and then criticized by them after they won awards. Never thought that was right. Basically they were hired to do a job and was successful.

I enjoyed everything about them Rob and Fab were the epic beginning of my childhood I will never forget the summer of 89 I was dancing and singing and I couldn’t get enough of their videos as a tot poor guys what a tragic ending

The title to this video is so fake. These guys were not imposters. They didn't fake anything. It was an agreement between the label, them and the voices behind the scene. They were handsome, had taste, could dance and act. Perfect for the roll. Everyone involved was aware. They were a team. They are milli Vanilli period.
It became a fraud when they were put as vocalists in the credits of the American version of their first album. The European version (which came first) didn't credit them as vocalists.
Their manager exposed them, he offered them 17 million to do another album, but they wanted their own voices heard. They refused and he exposed them, told to them by a friend who was their assistant.
No they wanted more money and to use their real voices or they were going to tell the truth their manager didn’t like that so he exposed them instead

They were handsome energetic young guys who took a life changing opportunity. I dont think they are solely to blame. The producer orchestrated this. I think its sad they were villanized for this when people like JLO and others have been using other peoples voicces and getting away with it for years.
I was in college when this happened. Many suspected they were a "studio band" from the start, and weren't "shocked" by the "scandal.". Milli Vanilli, along with other '80's bands, were displaced by grunge, rap and industrial music (Nirvana, NWA, Nine Inch Nails) almost overnight.
I ain’t even mad at them. At least they weren’t making music about killing or drugs.
Trust me there are others today who are doing the same thing that they did they just haven't got caught

Rob's Bio-dad was from NY. And Fab did live in Miami for a while. It made them more "American." The media never corrects this stuff.
Before they were exposed, I always thought the voices just didn’t seem to match. Now Fab is performing their songs, and he actually have a really nice voice.

I loved these guys. I’m sorry they received such terrible hate. The maker of this plan got off Scott free. That’s terrible. The way it normally goes though. Milli Vanilli was based on a lie that didn't need to take place (Rob and Fab thought it was wrong but they were young had been manipulated into doing it). Rob was born in Germany of an African American soldier stationed in Germany he never was born in New York. You can actually hear his German accent in interviews that’s why he and Fab(who’s from Guadeloupe, French Caribbean)vocals weren’t used.
They say, authenticity is an even higher vibration than love. But neveretheless, I loved "milli vanilli" back in the day and I still do, because to me it´s not a problem that they were lip syncing. They were great performers and dancers.

I still hav the MV album & the real MV album too. Both album are wonderful & I lov them. For me that duo Rob & Fab are great performer. I was a teen when they hit the scene. I liked the songs, but I thought it was weird that they song English perfectly. Yet, they couldn't speak English well in interviews. I knew something was wrong. Them not being the actual singers was the last thing on my mind. It was mind-blowing for a teenage me.

It’s crazy how Milli Vanilli’s lip syncing became such a scandal considering the fact that almost every singer today is faking their skills with autotune without being scrutinized by anyone. Imagine a regular consumer today trying to press charges against a musical artist for using autotune.
Imagine how easily the tragedy could've been avoided if Farian, when forming the group, had just put all 4 guys into the band, Morvan and Pilatus mostly as dancers like Bobby Farrell in Boney M.

many people didn't notice that the credits on the album didn't actually SAY they sang, but since their faces and names were on the cover people just assumed they sang. It was misleading but not really dishonest.
