Alien was the first sci-fi horror movie that I saw. I loved the suspense, and realness of it. I feel that CGI had a bit of an acting valley. By that I mean, actors were used to seeing the effect in real time and interacting with it. It did take a couple of years for the CGI and green screen to catch up to the "feels" of real effects. In the meantime, great directors, like "The Whole Town Is Sleeping," used makeup, even off screen, like in the back of 1968 Impala, to elicit a surprise response from their actors :)

I love your point about the issue with actors and how they are effected when asked to act opposite a tennis ball rather than a physical effect. Also, love (and appreciate) your “deep cut” example from the annals of micro-budget, shot-on-video flicks! 🤣

I'm also a big fan of the Alien franchise. Didn't care too much for Covenant. Actually rather watch Requiem than Covenant(HOT TAKE ALERT😅) I'll be in the theater seeing Romulus for sure 🤙
