WVA and MVDP were both incredibly good. It seemed like MVDP cracked under pressure in the first rounds - he was not sharp at all - and eventually even crashed due to it. Then WVA had bad luck and had a lesser second half because of it. I would’ve liked to see this battle without the flat tyre, I think MVDP would’ve won nevertheless, but would’ve definitely been much closer. The only reason I watch CX is the fact that these 2 legends race here.
@@Tim-K. well he was under pressure but did you see the line where he crashed ? It was deep and sideways . I would have crashed to without pressure 😂 but yeah ur right it Would have been closer . But Wva came back with 3 seconds behind but mvdp rode flawless trough those sand strokes and Wva cracked on that 21% steep bridge and that was were the race was over . They both lost 11 seconds (mvdp with the crash, and wva with the puncture ) so it is quit . And mvdp came closer before wva had a flat tire
I think even without the puncture MVDP would’ve won, because he was incredibly strong in the second half of the race, but unfortunately we will never know for certain. These 2 already are legends and they will certainly have many battles in the future.

i'd enjoy watching cyclo-cross more if I understood what the length of the races are. I found this bit on the net but haven't a clue what it means, it's so complicated- "The rulebook says that races (elite men) have to last for approximately one hour. The jury notes the lap times in the first two laps and after that they calculate how many laps the riders will have to ride. So if one lap takes 6 minutes, elite men have to ride 10 laps in a regular race and 11 laps in a world cup race (women and U23 men race for 50 minutes, juniors for 40 minutes).
Disagree. The race would have been more exciting for 1 extra lap. But Mathieu was overall the strongest and would've dropped Wout in the next lap. Both very strong riders and respect for their efforts.
