it has randomly came on when i needed it most and im still here because i sat and listend and cried because of hte pain ive been through and this song coming on at right time i break down everytime but i am trying to get into a better headspace
This song was inspired by several hardship stories but mainly by the American Depression. The open lyrics “In this proud land…” was the title of a book Peter read about the Depression, which included photographs of hardship taken at that time by among others Dorothea Lange. Because of the American backstory Peter originally wanted to record the song with Dolly Parton. But her office declined and so he turned to his good friend and previous collaborator Kate Bush. And most people are glad that he did.
Such a great song. For another vibe (with African influences), check out Peter's song "In Your Eyes" but be sure to do the live version from the Secret World tour. It is an amazing performance!
Peter Gabriel is a musical and performance genius! Everything from the Secret World Concert is just magnificent! Thanks for this! I love when he says , "Gonna' stand on that bridge, keep my eyes down below, whatever may come, and whatever may go, that river's flowing", it offers true hope. A really sweet deep cut by him is The Book of Love.
Solsbury Hill my fav of his. The tech used for videos was ahead of its time. If you didn't know Peter Gabriel was the lead singer for Genesis before Phil Collins.
I liked the symbolism of the eclipse in the back. It seems to start coming back after Peter sang the phrase "that rivers flowing". That at the time when all seems lost, hope comes back.
Peter Gabriel, Earls Court 80's. with a South African singer who's name escapes me now.. 20 minutes of "Biko, Biko Bikooo, Steve Biko". wonderful night..
This song came out in my teens, I was going through a few things minor, but they piled up. This song helped a lot, Peter Gabriel's song has kept me going for decades.
Great reaction Shon! These two are so good together and you can feel the sincerity in the performance. I'd love to see you react to Kate singing 'Get out of my house', it's a wild ride that really showcases the creative genius of the woman. Cheers.
I learned not long ago that Peter actually wanted Dolly Parton to to this song with him, but she said no due to her tour schedule, so Peter called Kate. I'm sure Dolly would have killed it, but I just can't imagine anyone else but Kate on this song. Great choice, and great reaction as always!
Two of the most creative and unusual artists there have been. Kate provides backing vocals on one of his big hits from the early 80s Games Without Frontiers. A completely different vibe but totally worth it.
It would be nice to see Peter get some love from the younger generations. This album is phenomenal, I hope you do more Peter, like maybe "Biko", about Stephen Biko, a black South African anti-apartheid activist who died under most curious of circumstances in custody. His story should also not be lost to a new generation.
My introduction to Peter Gabriel was through Biko. Since then I've enjoyed his works and collaborations with other artists such as Deep Forest and Massive Attack. San Jacinto and In Your Eyes are my favorites. It's funny you posted two videos today that are related by the circles of friends. Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush worked together. Also in that circle are Bob Geldof (Boomtown Rats) and Midge Ur (Ultravox) who were instrumental in organizing Live Aid.
Tony Levin plays the bass for PG, and I’m pretty sure he’s on this whole song. That groove is so great coming out of a slow, moving song. Tony also plays with King Crimson. Absolute legend. Pound for pound, no rock act has a better set of sidemen than Peter Gabriel. Manu Katche on drums is incredible.
70's 80's just got a different feel. Highly recommend some James taylor if you want some more unique vibes, Carolina in my mind(for reminiscing of being back home) Walking man, you've got a friend. If you want some more Peter gabriel, Mercy Street(a dedication to the famous poet Anne Sexton who had father issues she's write about and eventually took her own life), Solsbury hill(First song made after leaving Genesis and being replaced by another all time great Phil Collins, he talks about a new beginning that anyone can relate to) Both artist have unbelievable symbolism in their music so keep your ears wide open! Great reaction
Loving all your reactions and you appreciation of the music Did you ever think of doing a movie review channel as well I sure there are tons of movies your viewers would love to see your reactions too especially 80s,90s and early 2000s. That you you would probably love Just a thought 😀
I wonder if you'd be interested in checking out "Clark Beckham - Gravity Feat. Yebba by John Mayor" (by the channel: Clark Beckham) Both artists are wonderful singers but keep an ear out for Yebba (Abbey Smith) she is an amazing vocalist. She can absolutely blow🤯 you away with her vocal acrobatics...this is truly beautiful stuff, bro.
Will you please react to Joey+Rory “When I’m Gone”? I’m currently on Hospice Care and I sent that song to my husband when I was really bad off had been on a ventilator for 12 days and the Drs gave me a 10% chance of survival coming off the ventilator and that was 4 yrs ago. I haven’t given up and I fight everyday just to breathe. You always make my day better (no matter how bad I feel)watching your videos. Would just really like to see if the song touches you as much as it did me. Thank you for always being a bright star 🌟 on my darkest days!! Much love 💕 and respect a fan for life!!
What's that bro? I'm Paul from Utah. I Been watch you for a couple months, so keep it up. Have one question. Do you go all winter without a shirt too?😅
This song has been known to save many lives 🙏❤️
it has randomly came on when i needed it most and im still here because i sat and listend and cried because of hte pain ive been through and this song coming on at right time i break down everytime but i am trying to get into a better headspace
@@GrandpaOCE I can totally relate! I can finally listen to it without cracking!
This song turned Elton John's life around when he was at his lowest. Was also an inspiration to Matthew Perry, and played at his funeral.
Kate Bush has a lot of great songs in her repertoire. A great song and must-see video is "This Woman's Work"
Slight correction "This Women's Work"
Slight correction " This Woman's Work"...lol@@leslieturner8276
Ok, cried again.

In Your Eyes live at the Secret World concert is the most joyful thing ever....
Couldn't agree more!😁
Peter Gabriel "In Your Eyes"
Secret World Live Tour
...one of the very best vids on YT

Also, I believe the miners strike!
The amazing Tony Levin on bass guitar 🙌
Might be a Chapman Stick.
Such a great song. For another vibe (with African influences), check out Peter's song "In Your Eyes" but be sure to do the live version from the Secret World tour. It is an amazing performance!
The end segment (aka Coda) is a bass guitar, drums, and synth/keyboard. The keyboard is what's making that swooping noise. ❤
Peter Gabriel is a musical and performance genius! Everything from the Secret World Concert is just magnificent! Thanks for this! I was dating a girl when this song came out, and she thought I was suffering from depression. 🤣 No, it's just an awesome song!
This song is a Saviour Song as it has prevented many people from deciding to leave this world😢❤❤❤
Solsbury Hill my fav of his. The tech used for videos was ahead of its time. If you didn't know Peter Gabriel was the lead singer for Genesis before Phil Collins.
Climbed up Solsbury Hill a couple of months ago , it is beautiful and you can see the City of Bath 😊
I liked the symbolism of the eclipse in the back. It seems to start coming back after Peter sang the phrase "that rivers flowing". That at the time when all seems lost, hope comes back.
This is my favorite Peter Gabriel song.
Thank you so much.
This song describes what true lov4 and commitment feel like.
This sweet sad, picking someone up - song is so touching and visualized perfectly: Nothing else needed but that this warm, deep, honest, strong hug!
Great song choice!
Peter Gabriel, Earls Court 80's. with a South African singer who's name escapes me now.. 20 minutes of "Biko, Biko Bikooo, Steve Biko". wonderful night..
I hope men recognize the strength and support of good women who stand by them. We're on the same side.
Some... yes
Try an earlier track of Peter's which also had Kate Bush singing the backing vocal called Games Without Frontiers
Also as backing vocals on another track "No Self Control" from the sane album.
Thank you, Shon. You lifted me today.
I saw Peter Gabriel Live a few months at The American Airlines Center Dallas, TX and it was UNREAL!
Great reaction!
Plz check out Peter Gabriel from “Secret World” Live - the song is “In Your Eyes” with Paula Cole.
Incredible live performance, one of the best I have ever seen.
I was going to suggest this, also. Such an amazing performance.
+1! Just commented the same! One of Peter's best, no question.
This song came out in my teens, I was going through a few things minor, but they piled up. This song helped a lot, Peter Gabriel's song has kept me going for decades.
Their voices complement each other. This song is so convincing and very real. To all those out there going through tough times…don’t give up ❤️❤️
I've known and loved this song for decades and I JUST noticed the lunar eclipse today.
Great reaction Shon! These two are so good together and you can feel the sincerity in the performance. I'd love to see you react to Kate singing 'Get out of my house', it's a wild ride that really showcases the creative genius of the woman. Cheers.

You got me- This is the first time I’ve heard this song. Beautiful!!🦋💜
Powerful stuff
Think i have sumthing in my eye
You are such a joy to watch for these kinds of reactions, full of joy and passionate for great new musical discoveries.
The unmade bed is making a cameo! Excited for this. 👍 great selection of a song too.
Thank you.
David Gilmour of Pink Floyd discovered Kate Bush.

Please watch Peter Gabriel at his best, when he was with Genesis. Do a live video version of the song Supper's Ready from 1973.
You are one sharp dude, What great interpretations you do. Well done!

You are a very wise young man
Peter Gabriel has some good songs
If you ever circle back a good one is Solsbury hill
Tony Levin on bass, that outro is sick
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
