EXPLAINED: How Big is Russia’s Army in Ukraine? Bigger, But Definitely Not Better

  • According to a new report Russia’s army in Ukraine is more than double the size of the force that invaded almost two years ago, despite suffering hundreds of thousands of casualties.
    In this video we look at the numbers of troops the Kremlin is sending to fight in Ukraine and the current “volatile” information space inside Russia.
    For an in-depth analysis, read Kyiv Post senior defence correspondent Stefan Korshak's report here:

    That was one of the most interesting comments Valeri Zuluzhny made, that the Ukrainian government and their allies underestimated Russia's ability to sustain casualties. Russia really does not care about how many soldiers they lose, using tactics similar to Stalin during WW2, but on the other side Ukraine actually cares about the lives of soldiers and wouldnt send them to certain deaths.

      So true. And that is one reason among many to believe that russian losses are so much higher than Ukrainian.

    • @brookwhiteman9810
      @brookwhiteman9810 6 месяцев назад +10

      There is no need to believe that Russia has more casualties it's a fact that's been proven over and over again. If Ukraine had more casualties than Russia their situation would be absolutely terrible yet Ukraine is becoming stronger and stronger in all aspects. If you look at how Ukraine conducts operations and the use of combined arms warfare it's so abundantly clear that everything is done to minimize risk.

      @@brookwhiteman9810 Agreed.

    • @garufia
      @garufia 6 месяцев назад +6

      Yes, and motivation is high on the Ukrainian side. Because they are fighting for their very own survival. The Russian soldiers are not as motivated to fight, they often are not sure why they are there. Coupled with the way they are treated compounds this problem. Not to mention not as well equipped, readiness, etc.

    It's a myth that Russia has a bottomless supply of men to throw into this mess. They don't. Ukraine is doing way better than anybody expected it to do from the get-go; it's funny Ukraine was scheduled to lose within a few days, but that did not happen; not only are the country and its people holding their own, but are pushing back and hard with limited resources to do so. Guile and ingenuity. It is like what occurred with the fledging State of Israel; they were not supposed to win in 1948 either, but they managed with a whole lot less. It's a hard war, but it's also one that has to be fought and won, not just for Ukraine to remain an independent and free nation but for the wider security of Europe. From this conservative Republican, yeah, I am an American; the aid and assistance is well within our means and worth the costs; it's also in our interest that Ukraine wins this war and drives every Russian off of Ukrainian Soil. There is no other choice in the matter.

    From America, good report. Seems Ukraine strategy should include delivering real newspapers into Russia. For example, South Korea flies newspapers into North Korea using small balloons undetectable by radar. If they knew real news Russians will lose the all important "will to fight" and avoid enlistment.

    Prior to February 2022, I watched many Russian productions of Soviet war dramas. Heroism, sacrifice, honor despite the most terrifying conditions. Tank battles, Stalingrad, the war in Afghanistan, even the movie honoring Kalashnikov for the invention of his rifle. And I saw one or two action movies glorifying the 'private' Russian units 'defending' the people of Africa. Very good production values, with very high view numbers by audiences throughout the world. And I believe, I am not certain, yet I believe, I saw some Russian action movies pirated from RUclips or other distributors for sale as DVDs on the streets of Africa.
    I suggest Ukraine make Russian action movies to present the war from the viewpoint of mobiks and convicts deployed to Ukraine. Russian censors cannot stop the downloading and conversion of movies to DVDs. DVDs will spread hand-to-hand, duplicated by individuals to give to others. Like the secret publishing during the Soviet era.
    Fluent Russian, captured uniforms, captured weapons, many video scenes recorded in actual combat-- Ukrainian movie companies can make very inexpensive works of carefully crafted anti-Putin propaganda.
    Keeping Russians in Russia will be much cheaper than killing them in Ukraine.

Knowledge is power, we have to get the information to the public. I don't understand, there should be enough bodies coming home or by the amount of supposedly "missing" soldiers should by now have people with a choice avoiding the army and those without a choice should be refusing to fight.

    Kovalenko is wrong --> The current number is 700 k. It might be 400 k ordinary RUS soldiers but then you have 100 k Navy in Crimea, 50 k support ( engineering, military Police, forced RUS Gov. ) a 100 k former Ukrainians and minority soldiers without proper documents and without a proper salary and ( despite Bakmut ) 50 k former Wagner. The current number of 700 k is approx the total invasion number of 2022, aka. the RUS army has mobilized the battlefield loss of 300 k + another 100 k that have fled, gotten sick or been sent to prison or executed by the RUS command. The mobilization of 400 k happened in 18 months and Putin is correct in calling this a "partial mobilization". A standard Russian mobilization, this is equal to an additional 2 million RUS soldiers. A full RUS mobilization, this is equal to 5 to 10 million soldiers. Ukraine is going to experience a standard RUS mobilization which will label the SMO as a War. This will bring the RUS force to 2.7 million soldiers. I've been saying this for a year and many channels/social media delete the comments. I hope that somebody can understand the gravity of the situation. Kovalenko is not only wrong. He might be off by a factor of 10.

    Time IS NOT ON Ukraine's side
    Expecting a collapse will be a long wait - 2027 maybe 2030 if lucky.
    Honestly the only hope I'm starting to see is we (the US) steps in to uphold the Budapest memorandum. Only main reason we haven't is China's reaction. Hopefully Biden spoke about this yesterday (Nov 16th 2023) with Xi.
    Honestly I see Ukraine leaders want a collapse to swoop in and take over the military aspect of Russia, hence why they are not destroying everything in Russia like bases etc... Don't give me "air defense" of Russia is to good because we've seen that is BS.
    I personally don't like Ukraine hiding losses while I get why its not being transparent and doesn't allow us to get a real picture of what's going on. example: are ALL the Leopards gone? and how many did they receive? Are all 12 Mi-24 from Poland gone and all 12 or 14 Slovakia Mig-29's and how many Bradley's have been lost? I seen SOMEONE (most likely in Ukraine) went into Wikipedia and changed all the fighter jet numbers to basically nothing, was like 72 and now 20+ lol. We heard 14-18 Brigades equipped with armored vehicles but are they all gone?
    Are we parking all these machines in hiding for a rainy day?
    Blah - Ukraine don't want people to give up hope \ support, but you're leaving us with no other choice. just give give give and nothing in return, I was in a 16 year marriage and it was just like that, horrible experience
    And please with the "they will march to Poland" because the way it looks now we in the west will end up fighting this fight anyways, that or wait another decade or so for the "collapse" to happen 🙄

    Kiev post 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 well, you can't win the war, you might as well try to win the media war. Because the reality is, Russia is winning. Ukraine is losing 5 times as many people as Russia everyday. That's the reality, and not even Nato is able to change this situation.

    Прочитал комментарии. Вы тут все в параллельном мире живете что ли? Какаую только дичь не пишите. Это у Украины огромные потери, кладбища заполнены. Мобилизуют стариков, потому что молодежь уже в могиле.

      They are NATO trained and that includes months of combat instructions, not like Russia sending green troops into human wave attacks.
