- Lava cooling in Iceland has worked in 1973, why not now ? They were talking about using it back in November 2023 but did not prepare. The Power Plant in Svartsengi is under threat !
THANK YOU so much for your support it is much appreciated and helps a lot !

Nature will always win. We're too confident as a species.
Hey Bruce Willis beat that asteroid. Ehh well more of a draw. It got lucky. I could've taken it if I felt like it 😏
Perhaps in this case our persistence will pay off, but it isn't looking too good at this point.
I agree.!
...and since we never learn from our mistakes (myself included, heck myself the TERM!) and keep trying to outwit a mother in travail, well...
Even if they stop the flow now completely, and the eruption ends, it's gonna just erupt again and flow directly into the walls this time since it already has a path to there. The walls won't work now, nor will water. So, it basically means nomatter what, in time the lava will reach the lagoon. They can only build so many walls until it doesn't work.
Mart from South Africa. Hi Silki. You never sleep!!! I am worried, they might not get that new wall high enough! Let us pray for Grindavik.
My brother was a firefighter in the Navy. These folks are very brave but we MUST not ask them to risk their lives in this effort unless they have a realistic, workable plan. A plan that not only works but that also minimizes risk to those on the front lines.
So far all the plans have failed, the only other option now is to let the lava take the lagoon and see what happens. Maybe the lava will just go around it. But if they keep building those walls of dirt to try to stop the lava, it's gonna keep hoping the barriers, and it will gain a little more speed each time, since the lava needs to be higher to Hop the barriers. This also means the rivers of lava will be very fast, so they should stop the barriers.
Maybe they should realize there really is nothing they can do to control the eruption.
Bonjour. Pourquoi n'utilisent ils pas des Canadair ou des hélicoptères pour pulvériser de l'eau de la mer ?
The volcano is showing who is BOSS ...... nature, not money .... lagoonies should beware
There can't be people still at the lagoon. If that lava picks up speed for any reason, or another flow/eruption begins, that lava will very quickly rush the blue lagoon and destroy it. Lava is surrounding it on almost all sides now, so it isn't like you can escape either.
It's not nice to fool with Mother Nature!🎉🎉🎉
hello again Silki and thank you again for another wonderful up date and the northern lake let go again last night and is coming over the wall in 3 places and they been working all night long stopping it from getting to the power plant and lagoons and is visible on webcams from MBL and also on afar tv showing the work force all busy working and doing an amazing job i also think the cone might be coming to an end of eruption for this time as larva pool tp the south has been empty now for two days and showing less signs of smoke and not so much splatter coming up into the air now so looking like might become dormant again and that will make every one happy till the next time
wishing you a wonderful day and coming weekend
John
Thanks!
David WOW , thank you SO SO much for this generous support 🌷🌷❤️ I really helps a lot
There is nothing that stops lava, nothing.
❤your videos Silki great information 👍!
Hello Silki, Hi from Canberra Australia. Thank you I love your informative clips. The fragile were not the builders in fraggle rock, I think the little people in helmets were called dozers 😅❤❤
Hi Silki. Thank you so much for all the work you do. You truly show physical reality and human behavior…..good bad and otherwise. We can have compassion for each other and learn in many more ways that we do share this think we have named life together.
I was totally amazed at the height of the lava. You cover every angle Silki. Thanks for your never ending updates. My brother Bob and I are so appreciative of your intense commitment to bring us all this ongoing information. Love and Peace to Silki and your faithful followers. Brother Bob and Eva ❤️😘🙏USA
The difference this time was that they had ships which had high powered jets for water in back in 1973
Hello Silki, thank you for these videos which really clarify the situation and its risks for the future. Nature simply takes back its rights.
My respects to all the men/woman working with those machines to raise the defense wall, to divert the lava, to stop it....all the hard work.....but I wonder, in the end was it worth it? I see danger in all of the ground around Grindavik, Blue Lagoon and Power Plant. I am thinking the magma covers so much, how can this war be won? Sorry Iceland pray for you.
all the beeping from trucks backing up is annoying the Lagoonies
Not only the Beeping they also got to hear the concrete breaker braking up the rock in the way and you can feel them through the ground from over 200 yards away and the noise goes through you
Well if they weren't aware of the situation before going there (which I suspect is the case for most of them- blissful ignorance), the constant beeping of trucks trying to fight lava might make them aware. Wonder how that will make them rate their BL experience?
Blue lagoon is about to be gone, the dirt walls have breached lava, and it's flowing towards the lagoon. So the sounds of trucks is the least of the concern. Honestly I think the blue lagoon is in it for the money, and they don't care at ALL about their visitors if there are still people there. Here we are, a highly Unpredictable, Dangerous lava flow heading directly to the lagoon, and they don't care. The people who are keeping it open should be fired.
The true hero's here is the workmen o the machines trying to stop the lava and building the walls love you telling us what is going on thank you from AUSTRALIA
Absolutely!
GRABBIN COFFEE TUNIN IN . !!! GOOD MORNING .
Yay! Good morning!
🦋🇺🇸👋Good Morning Theresa
The power plant already has some meaty pumps to get water to/from the coast for heating and cooling purposes. You need a fair amount of head pressure to move water though such long and relatively thin pipes, I'm sure those could be used to move quite a bit of water when operating at maximum power and diverting all of the return/heating water to the lava front.
Maybe they did the math with their fire truck test and concluded that even if they modified the plumbing to do this, there still wouldn't be enough shore water supply to keep up. If Svartsengi survives, maybe they'll double pump and pipe sizes to prepare for next time.

Thanx for the update❤

I always felt there is much more to come from this Volcano months.
When you factor in the original temperature , the fusing temperature AND the heat capacity then compare these to water - where you take the the original temperature , boiling temperature , the specific heat capacity and the latent heat of vaporisation you will soon realise that the volume of water needed is much more than a bowser can carry
Looks like an airport fire tender they are using to spray the lava. Big problem is that in relation to the lava the amount of water the tender holds is very little. Then it has to go and refill! And it takes time to refill. They need loads of tenders to keep a continuous flow going.
In the 1973 photos there seem to be at least three or four water jets spring at the same time.
It might need tens of tons of watter to cool each ton of lava, to the centre of a cubic-ton of lava; so the lava itself becomes the barrier?
🌋
In 1974 they had access to sea water. Not near the Blue Lagoon. Grindavik
has access to sea water.
Doesnt sea water cause toxic gases?
Maybe they should cause it to rain like they do everywhere else. They used to seed the clouds. Now they electrify them.
Who the heck wants to swim in powerplant water.
Dont worry it's almost July and it will end lololololol 😅
Every wall built diminishes the volume lava has on disposal to occupy, it really is tough. In 1973 case, it was lava on an island, therefore they were sorrounded by water. Here this is not the case.
Iceland is the 18th largest island in the world, there's plenty of water but they never got the big pumps needed. Using a single truck is a joke. My concern are the brave fireman risking there lives!
I don't believe the equipment excuse for one minute.
Go Silki, love your reporting style and great to see you at near 40k subs, I predicted ages ago that you will get 100k by Christmas, that will happen :),
now we just need to meet all your cute animals :)
sadly it has already passed over the wall, by the power plant
That volcano will win in the end. Maybe not right now but eventually it will 😮😮😮
You didn't show the 3 lava waterfalls! Just left of the spraying. They are less dramatic than last night from the morning sun, and maybe slowing, but hardly stopped, amazing amount came down since I went to bed. As I write this, the lava is eating the little hill down below. You just can't see the glow right now. Looks like they built a berm up on the waterfall closest to the road, but it mostly jjust hid it, I guess to direct it into the "quarry", but it was headed there anyway, and if it breaks out another fountain to the west, they're screwed.
Also, there was droneage of the cone yesterday, the 20th, and the lava had almost drained out, no north lake, all going straight through the now established plumbing system of tubes to these berms. They did fence in a kind of quarry at the waterfalls, which seems the best solution, as it's caught the lava there. For now. I wished they would have dug a deeper quarry, as now it's too late, but they can build walls walls around it, at least.
Now people just have views of walls and lava stacked due to them lol. Lagoonies are losing the moonscape, and Grindavik looks out on dirt walls now. Perhaps they will landscape them someday! Greenbelt, anyone? Jogging trails? Trees?! Trees??!
Silki, can the coast gaurd helicopter not scoop huge buckets of seawater to pour onto the lava?
You would need the type of scooper planes used in fighting wildfires.
You can not use sea water as it gives of a bad clouds gas (CO2, H2O, and SO2) The water gets really hot around it and some substances like sulfuric acid can form. so it has to be fresh water only to be safe
They did use sea water back in 1973, according to reports.
The big difference now is the sheer amount of water available. No amount of extra pumps will work if you don't have a limitless supply of water.
In 1973 they used the sea water which was readily available at the Harbor edge.
Hello Silki how are you doing?
Welp, it's made it past the wall, and if another eruption happens, the fast flowing lava will top it. Let's all record the last months/weeks/or even days until the lagoon is gone. Maybe if the lava overtops the lagoon, it could upgrade it naturally.
Arent there other hot springs in iceland to go to?
Hello … can you explain why if you pour water onto lava flow it can cool it and make it safe? And if lava hits ground water it explodes? Sorry just learning about all of this.
Because this lava is already spread out on the surface. I am sure if you were close you would see it sizzle and spit.
But a crack letting water into the chamber where the magma is waiting can cause an explosion.
But I read recently they think it was gas that caused the explosion at Honga Tonga.
The Blue Lagoon welcomes you with open arms . Lol
Maybe this plan with the water could work but those truck are too tiny.
Maybe they should "let the sea in" but that would be a crazy amount of job and the time is running out.
I can and will not make any prediction. But as an old man of 76 years I can definitely say, the videos now without anything behind you, are much better. You are such an attractive woman, that one might watch your videos just to see you 🤩. :-)))
If lava hits the power plant that’s bad because the power plant don’t just supply hot water and electricity to Grindavik but also to the airport in Keflavík and that be a disaster
Greetings from Dublin
They should consider using helicopters to drop sea water onto it like they do with forest fires.
There's a lot of debate about whether the 1973 flow coincidentally stopped on its own or if the water helped. Scientists I trust are very skeptical about the water stopping it, but it gave people a sense of too much control. Plus they had the sea much closer to pump endless water. These measures only work if the volcano cooperates, and, granted, this type of eruption is often good for them. But so expensive! Yes, the power plant, but could have spent that money on expanding the other plant(s), running and raising the lines, and starting a new plannt. They could be a year into that by now, with more billions to spend. Remember, initially it was all the Blue Lagoon, then Svartsengi, Grindavik be damned, until the residents sued. Grindavik is a loss, and hopefully it stops before Svartsengi, but the next one won't. Like any modern war, sooner or later the command is going to have egg on its face, esp if anyone gets killed. Even these "little" eruptions are doing major damage.
I chuckle every time you mention the muppets 😅
Me too. But it's a perfect analogy, just like the rubber band explanations ❤❤❤

Thanks for the reminder!
I think they had watched the movie volcano and somehow thought it would work. It's not cold enough to cool it down.
IDK, but I think a crucial difference is the amount of water they can pump as well. I may be wrong but I believe in 1973 they used sea water and just kept dumping it on the leading edge of the lava until it formed a hardened barrier, and in essence creating a barrier forcing the rest of the lava to take a path around. Being too far inland this time they simply don't have access to that amount of water to do that. So while they can spray the lava and cool it slightly faster than it might have naturally on its own, it is only on the surface. It might just insulate the lava under the surface all the more. Nor do I think the lay of the land really allows for the lava to go elsewhere, so when there is more being pushed in that direction it eventually just piles up on the already cooled lava, and finds a way forward.
But I admit to being no expert at all and I may be wrong about what happened in 1973. Especially as we constantly hear that lava and seawater are a toxic mix.
On another note; I hope every one of those workers have been supplied with heavy duty gasmasks.
Oh boy, get some sleep Missy. Good work
I wonder how far that water can reach. They only tried with one truck but maybe the lava underneath is still too hot for the truck tires.
I wonder how the gaspolution will affect the health of the freggels. I cannot stop thinking about the healthproblems they can have in future
What is the cost of replacing the power plant? What is the cost of losing more of Grindvik, a broken unstable village? I am not a monster as I would be miserable if my home was in Grindivik. However the worst scenario is to lose the power plant and then to have it flow into Grindivik anyway! 🤔🙄🙄🙄
It's a shame they can't deploy fire fighting air tankers like we use in the US to combat forest fires.
Well, it has happened. Most of the webcams are now turned in the direction of the defence wall, and you can see at least two beautiful lavafalls, plenty of lava inside the perimeter, and no one is pouring water on it anymore. Instead, they are hastily trying to build a new wall - or "berm", as they call it. So far, so good. But it is too close to the power plant for comfort.
It just happened again! It seems that a wall in the volcano broke and lava is flowing out. Additionally, it is flowing out of the pond. Pls have a look on 'live from Iceland, Sundhnukar - Grindavic' Cam 4
Helium water Canberra is on it with boats that can make water softer not harder like the blue Lagoon tourist silki
I say divert it into the Blue Lagoon. I know last night they were working on building the berm up since it was spilling over.
The volcano really has it in for the Blue Lagoon 😂 Lagoonies beware!
Drain the Lagoon, I say! Just think of all of the lost jewelry, trinkets, sunglasses, underwear, hair bobs, watches. cell phones, hats, flip-flops, towels, lost relatives..... all kinds of flotsam and jetsam that could be found down in there.!!
This may sound quite desperate but why can’t they drop explosives on the other side of the volcano to divert the lava away from the power plant? I know, this sounds crazy.
It's been done before man has stopped lava it can work you can stop lava with water
#346 👍
Air tankers. They use it in fires, why are they using fire hoses. Doesn’t make any sense.
It probably worked in 1973 because the water did not have all the extra things/chemicals in it as it does now🧐
Lava tsunami would be real bad bad news
I'm going to her home land. If all the girls look this nice I want one !
See you later silkaroos
Only God has power over nature. Jesus's disciples were amazed how even the wind & waves obeyed Him & evil spirits shuddered in fear at His Presence. He has Control of The Whole Universe because He is The Living Word that Created Everything that is, including You & I. Yet most humans go about their lives never acknowledging Him. Water won't stop this Lava, there is nothing anyone can do but pray & get out the way.
The hubris of mankind amazes me. We can no more control the volcano than we can control the climate.
I think it's being shown that mankind is very good about controlling the climate. Just not in a positive way
So we should just give up and not try with either? In 1973 they were successful with their efforts in Heimaey, but they had much more equipment than a lone tanker truck. In this situation, distance from the water may be the obstacle with a similar defense, but I applaud the efforts of the engineers and workers.
@@nnonotnow Climate change is not man-made. Go buy your EV and get over it
It is actually making things worse by building those walls, because every time they make a new wall, the lava fills in that gap, and then it goes over the wall. Then they make a new wall, and it keeps repeating this process until its too close and destroys the lagoon. It's gonna happen, only a matter of time.
The volcano is going to close the BL once and for all🤣
Silki, they were only using one fire truck pump? Back in the 70's eruption they used many fire trucks which was why they were successfull in cooling the lava down! Yesterday they used only one fire truck? Of course they would fail. What did they expect!
I was just looking to see if anyone else had this same thought. It looks like they’re not trying. Maybe they are not able to get more yet?? HOLD MY BEER she says.!! Silki you are hilarious!
Great job Silki! Keep up the good work
The different with 1973 is 51 yaers😂
Hallo!!! We can’t fight nature. We will eventually lose.😢
I want to agree with you but have Faith. Let's pray for Grindavik 😘😘
Progress is often a matter of trial and error. Doing nothing means you learn nothing.
the mosters in Fraggle Rock are called Gorgs:)
Give those men a medal or a cold beer. lol . They are very brave to be out there doing this. Sending them prayers and please guys...STAY SAFE!
🦋🇺🇸🙏🙏🙏 My concern is the toxic gases they are breathing in will cause long term health issues 😢.
a kind of volcanic cement deposits in the lungs, not good😢
@@georg841984 🦋 I can relate because I have long term health issues from breathing in SO2 back in 2014. I just Pray they realize what is happening to their health 🙏🙏🙏
If those fools stay at the blue lagoon while the lava is coming, the gas is the least if their concerns. I have a feeling that there are gonna be some people who are going to stay at the blue lagoon until their rooms are on fire, THEN they will leave. They are not smart people if they are still there, hope they evacuated.
Thanks for the update, Silki. I'm concerned for the workers being so close to the encroaching lava, the heat and gas pollution. I hope they can get away quickly if they need to.
Good morning silki. OMG you look amazing this morning. Wow. Very pretty.
Good grief. There are towns all over this world that Mother Nature has taken.
These people are throwing sh***t at the wall to see if it sticks.
Sometimes you just need to have a big going away party for areas like this.
Nature is gonna nature.
Hopefully they don't keep messing around until more workers are killed or Nature decides to take a different course into a different area that wasn't meant to be.
I love Iceland. One of my best friends is from there and lives in Kopavogur (spelling might be wrong). And no way do i wish ill will upon some of the greatest tenacious fighters on Earth.
But sometimes....you just gotta let go...
🦋🇺🇸👋Good Morning Silki n family. Night Owl here 😂… Thks Silki 🙏❤️
Good morning Silkians
Can't they build a defense wall behind the other defense wall?
In this episode of man vrs volcano,: the shizzy hits the fizzy. As i said in your other video they should redirect the lava to the Blue Lagoon. Dig a big trench staright there. They want a hot pool to swim in. I don't think that they will win against the volcano.
The Trash Heap has spoken...yeah ! The Trash Heap is your Fraggle Rock character.
Silki Thanks for update.
Sea water didn't help ? That's strange
Hello Silki. Unless the Icelandic has updated their efforts in supplying water nozzles hoses and large diameter water distribution pipes, and high capacity water pumps, then just having one fire truck spraying the hot lava is pathetic. There should be 50-100 nozzles spraying the lava !!
The volcano will keep making new land ..it has always won fight against mankind
Can they not get helicopters like they use on forest fires. And, the sea is just there at your door. Its not likely to run out any time soon.!!!???
They were able to use sea water in Heimaey as the lava was in the harbour.
To cool lava 1,000 degrees C you need ten times as much cold water. This was a temporary stop-gap experiment.
Thank you for your informative videos you are so beautiful ❤️.
I guess they were lying, because they are going CRAZY with water spraying right now😂
Howdy from Texas. I have been watching your videos since early this year. The Campi and Grindavik both interest me and I like your videos best. Actually, all volcanoes interest me. I signed in this time specifically to let you know you have another fan. I usually don't sign in because of the barrage of ads from youtube. So I don't get to give you a thumbs up very often. Sorry.
Man versus Volcano. Not the other way around.
