  • I'm a big fan of AKs and the 7.62x39mm cartridge in general - which is why the new Sig Sauer Spear LT rifle had me really excited. As an AK-lover, I have a pretty decent stash of 7.62x39mm and have developed a love for the round. Plus, when I saw the new SIG Spear LT being offered in my favorite caliber using its short-stroke piston operation with the gun's excellent modularity, I thought I might have finally found the ultimate AK replacement. But after 800 rounds through the new Sig Sauer Spear, I have a very different opinion on it.

My 11.5" Spear Lt is great! Near 1" groups at 100 yards from Silver bear Soft points and 100% reliable. Arisaka handguard clamp makes handguard rock solid. I have ks47 and have replaced the bolt 3 times in 1000 rounds. The charging handle broke the first day using it. I have two thousand rounds on my Spear Lt with not 1 failure. I run a SOLGW Nox Deadair Flash hider and it recoils like a 5.56. My opinion is its a great gun.

Agreed! Unless running the compatable sig can you should throw that flash hider away. It is a terrible flash hider and causes more than needed recoil because of how short the prongs are. But great accurate reliable gun with a nice flash hider on it. The guy saying better off with the ks47 is not all there lol

I have the PWS MK111 AND Spear LT 11 inch.
The PWS is a MUCH softer shooter and does have 3 position gas piston.
The Sig also requires my Hxwrx 762 to run without being over gassed and me not getting gassed out.
My PWS runs with any can, happily, with no gas issues.
So far, the Sig is "cooler" and PWS works way better.
    PWS is the AK killer

Is it me, or did I see the gas set to the high setting every time I could see the gas block? I have one in x39, and mine runs on the low setting just fine without all the jumping around.

I have a 556 and a 762 version of Sig’s 556xi rifles. Both sitting there with no possible way to buy parts for them. So beware of Sig abandoning platforms.

I’m still waiting for someone to compare the MCX LT to other piston “quick barrel change” rifles in regards to barrel flex. It’s always a comparison to an M4, usually a cost comparable model that has a 2-2.5” long barrel nut, that also can’t quickly change barrels. I’d do it, but I don’t have f-u money.

The Arisaka Zero Retention Clamp says its only for 300 BLK or 5.56. Does yours fit with your 7.62x39 version?

To my knowledge the heavy model spear is the one with serious flex issues. I haven’t heard about accuracy lost with the LT model due to barrel flex

  • @ericbergfield6451

It's too front heavy; if it were designed as a bullpup the weight wouldn't be an issue, but as it stands right now, the Spear LT is a pass in my book.

you're the only one to test the barrel deflection concern with live ammo. any chance you could post pics or video of your groups after attempting to shift the barrel? Great vid btw.

It’s the hand guard that flexes not the barrel.

100% agreed. All the pearl-clutching about the barrel is standard know-nothing internet experts regurgitating stupidity they read elsewhere.

Have you watched scorpion tacticals video? Multiple people have released videos SHOWING with lasers that it is indeed the barrel thats causing POI shift. Are all of them effected? Mine doesnt seem to be. But enough people have presented actual evidence. Not just claiming they tested it. I’m going to believe the video actually showing.

    • @alexhutton155
      @alexhutton155 Год назад +1

@@AmmoLandTVnah man, people have presented actual videos evidence showing it is barrel shift. Mounting lasers to the barrel and hand guard separately. Quit projecting. While mine is not effected or hasn’t shifted YET. All people are really wanting is for sig to address and fix the issue. 3k for a rifle and this? Pfft. When you present an actual video instead of just hearsay showing it is the handguard and not the barrel. I’ll lend more credit to your claim.
