The crunch sound effect 😂😂 honestly my hair probably sounds the same way, I haven't trimmed in, like, forever, but seeing how much you trim yours makes me relieved that I don't need to cut my entire hair. I'll admit that I'm not one of those girlies who love to scream "Health over Length"...I've never had long hair before because my mom would always put relaxers in my hair and then I'd have to flat iron it every morning for years and years to get it to stay straight. And eventually that broke my hair all the way to above my shoulders...now since I've gone natural I have seen my hair retain its length and it's a little lower than my shoulder blades. I'm so happy with what I have, I just want to experience it without feeling guilty for not trimming as regularly as other people say I should. I care very much about my hair and I try to be as gentle as possible with it. Since seeing your videos, I've stopped with the combs and brushes and solely finger detangle and I absolutely love it. People always said I was tender headed so this was definitely the route for me...I'm more in touch with my hair (no pun intended), and I hardly experience any breakage 😁 I really do appreciate your videos and always look forward to them. Thank you.

The past two years I got my hair trimmed 3/4 times a year. I was trying to grow out my older hair so I could start fresh. Its definitely appears denser than before. :D

Idk what happened, I used to be anti trim or wait till the last possible second to trim and now I'm like nah 3 or 4 times a year at minimum. It helps so much.

I tell people at least 4 times a year. And a half to a quarter of an inch. If you stay on a schedule you can snip the bare minimum and still keep healthy ends. I use to trim in March, June, Sept, Dec. I now have locs and only trim if I see a damaged loc, usually from rubber bands.

i recently started trimming my own hair and people think it’s bad to because i’m not “ professional “ but i don’t cut that much off but i feel like if it’s my hair and i know what’s best and how to manage it more then anyone else but idk why people make this assumption if you cut your own hair that your damaging it but i’ve been watching you for awhile now and i’m glad you have a video on this

I dust/ trim my hair every wash day and I wash my hair every 1-2 weeks. One day I thought I was surprised at how long my hair still is but I was just getting rid of dead/ uneven hair. I will be 5 years natural in April and my hair is super close to waist. Probably already is…unless I get a trim once it’s straightened

I've started doing more trims and I've seen a difference. In the video though, you did more of a dusting, not a trim. Still both are good to do, but they are different.

You might be surprised. I trim my own ends at home whenever it needs it when the ends of my twists don't act right and I went to a stylist for my first professional cut in years and she only gave me a trim because she said "it looks like I maintain my ends"

I got sheers because I wanted to from my hair after a little breakage. What I didn't consider is wanting to use them 24/7 because I got them the most amazing 🔵🌟 They also shine and the sound of it trimming is immaculate. I have to put my hair in braids so I can enjoy using them without cutting my hair off.

I agree with you we know our hair better, i am always disappointed when i get my hair done by the professionals, it breaks a lot. I saw one lady who does her own trimming but she will blow dry the hair first, maybe try that.

I only trim my hair once a year. That is due to I don't wear my hair out PERIOD. And I keep my ends tucked/covered. But if I wore my hair out I'm pretty sure it would be at least twice a year...

You certainly do know your hair best. Stylists can be knowledgeable or simply artistic (they know how to style your hair to look amazing but don’t know much about health of hair and how to truly retain length). I highly recommend watching Naturally_Nica’s recent video entitled, “The Misuse of Health over Length” where she explains how some stylists / naturals can mistake healthy hair for unhealthy hair due to different growth rates on our heads. Very enlightening! You’re doing a great job with your own hair care, keep going! 👏🏾👏🏾

I can’t accurately tell but it looks like you are cutting almost a half of inch. I think people wildly under estimate how big or small an inch truly is 🤣😂😂. I had a comb that had a ruler on it and I would show people on the comb how much I was actually cutting off.

I found out from a WHITE hair stylist that black women don’t have to follow the standards of trimming meant for straight hair bc our hair isn’t straight and that a person can feel the damage ends that need to be trimmed, and unless you want to ever wear your hair straight you don’t need a blunt cut or cut healthy hair strands🤦🏿‍♀️
This change my the game for me😂

Please don't trust hairdressers blindly. I'd go for a natural stylist with long and healthy hair like yours. Otherwise they might rip your hair out and blame your hair for it. I'm speaking from experience. Make sure you don't ignore any red flags. Some stylists are more about the style than maintaining health.

Hey, Natural Academia. I’m just wondering. Where do you keep getting the original old jars of Palmer’s Olive Oil Formula Gro Therapy hair grease from? In my area, the local stores sell the new formula with Jamaican Black Castor Oil. I’m thinking about using it for my hair one day.
