I've been using this kind of pre- and post-distortion EQ for years, but I just do it manually. When using distortion, you really need to think of what you want to distort and what you want to keep intact. Using an EQ before or after any kind of saturation will have a very different effect.

I think the sidechain feature could be really helpful to always distort the lead or something whenever the kick hits. I really like the sound of the buzz distortion
@@greedokenobi3855 I wholeheartedly agree....chain Black Box HG-2 Analog Design along with Tone Empire Model 5000 compressor (put Trans-X on default settings, turn up Threshold until you see healthy fluctuation in its VU meters, and makeup turn down 5-15 decibels...you'll be amazed at the studio clarity quality although the RMS will be significantly lower so use a lean gain stage/true peak limiter plugin like Fabfilter Pro-L2 or Flux Elixir 3 to get your RMS smoothly up. Some people also use TBProAudio FinalLoud 2 to do this.
And it's cheaper ($69 vs $99), has *3 distortion types* (did you even wath the video my guy?) and a sidecahain mode. before badmouthing something, I highly recommend you pay attention and muster a basic understanding of the thing you are badmouthing. However, for me this thing is rendered useless by the lack of oversampling.
Yes, I bought Spectre only because of multiband capability which gives less hassle and faster workflow. For one band Blackbox HG2, for sidechain a lot of other options.
I may the only person in the world who doesn't like Saturn 2 or Spectre but I demoed both recently and couldn't get either of them to sound nearly as good as a lot of other saturation plugins I know of. Both are fairly CPU-intensive and as far as the multiband ability it has I don't find it that useful. Either I want to saturate a track or I don't. If I want multiband there are work-arounds to getting it to do that. The Saturn and also the Spectre plugin that is similar both sound very strange and fake to me and their tape doesn't sound like tape, and there are much better valve and tube saturation plugins out there - I'm talking about dozens of better options. I think these plugins also have a convolution reverb built in that I suspect is humming on some low level, and doesn't really make it sound better in my opinion, but some are probably unaware that it's just a little reverb they could add if they wanted to in a less CPU-intense way.
They're all amazing. The best in the game for emulation plugins. I use T Racks Classic Clipper and Stealth Limiter on my master every time without fail. Their 1176 is good as well for what it is just don't use it much.

It’s got nice graphics! The typography I really dig, but they have probably been heavily inspired by Ableton on this. Their website and also the fonts used in the UI are the exact same sans-serif Avant-garde / Century gothic inspired font as Ableton uses. Very curious indeed, maybe they want to appeal to that user base in particular? 🤔 The plugin looks very clean and easy to use unlike those “try to be realistic it’s even got screws” skeuomorphic thingies.

nice video like always... you really should try the last update for Purple from Acustica Audio as long as you won't own a hardware Pultec, i eared Pultec owners saying that we never been so close to the real thing ...UAD's one are sounding 2D platstic next to it
They have nice ideas, but the implementation is poor, GUI size is unbelievable for 2020 and for a new developer. I expected more from them when they started, let's hope for improvements in the future.
The push and pull they describe on their site sound more like the same push and pull technique used with subwoofers inside speaker cabinets. Only the speakers won’t distort of course whereby this plug-in is ment to distort.
I’m suffering from a little buyer’s remorse because of this - I bought it, and it didn’t take long for me to realize I DONT NEED MORE DISTORTION PLUGINS! Or any others, for that matter...but ESPECIALLY distortion - how many flavors of static does a person need 😫
what do you think of the SSL 2 Plus with 4k legacy?, I have a few Focus rites, a Mackie 12 Channel with Onyx Pres, the focus rite pros have the AIR' mode which emulates the ISA preamps
Push pull means.... (god mode) ... , push the eq to get the distortion out of it and then turning it back to get a normal response again with the distortion only.
I know you wouldn't like them but my Kark Pultec clone sounds sweet on my drum overheads. Reissue 414's spaced pair into WA-412's into the Pultec's. They are only 300 each.
How about check another 1176 from Arturia? I've got one and i love the versatility it delivers. Every other 1176 emulation lacks of features after this one.(just my humble opinion)

He's talking about trends in GUIs to use the tiniest fonts and features possible because "screen space" and "sleek interfaces" are buzzwords. It's marketing garbage and I agree this trend is not good for people with weak eyesight (which screens make only worse).

If it's hard to see, it's hard to work with, what results in not working with it at all... What results in having no sound at all from the plugin. My *beta state* commentary is related to the GUI but also to the severe behavoir of this and Perfect Room. Everyone who worked with both plugins knows what I mean.
I usually like your videos, but this review feels a bit lazy to me. I get that it's your first experience with the plugin, but some parts didn't add much to the video. I'm mostly talking about that part where the pull is at 100% and you're moving the EQ without it having any effect on the song. You could have done that part over to show us what it sounds like.
Coffee sucks way too much of my CPU to be any good, can't even judge the sound because of the horrendous CPU hogging it causes. Btw, you should really check out Airwindows plugins, I've heard about them a few times but never really looked into them, it's kind of daunting the amount of plugins he has and the depth of the website, but Chris, the guy behind it, makes some of the best analog emulation style plugins you can find, and all for the most of his stuff is free! The sound quality on the plugins is absolutely remarkable, and comes very very close to the real stuff. Chris is also extremely tranparent with his work: o big compary name that could have alternative motives (it's just one guy) and no 3D modelled designs that cause compaines to spend so much on how a plugin looks: his plugins literally do not have UIs, just a couple of sliders and your ears, kind of an odd decision, but it mostly works out, and it allows him to work more on the plugins than the visuals. (I'm sure it's also a reason he's less popular, no visuals is not ideal for marketing) So yeah, you should really check it out. Mr recommendations would be: ToTape6: awesome tape saturation/distortion plugin, amazing sound www.airwindows.com/totape6/ And also the beginners bundle. (Also, remember me at all ;D )
