I don't think there would be much of a rivalry. They do the same thing just for a different deity, if the Horned Rat isn't just Nurgle in disguise.

Spacewolf Blackmane honestly it probably works both ways, they devote themselves to the horned rat and disease is an aspect of Nurgle.
The Horned Rat lives in Papa Nurgs garden
The horned rat could be a sort of Jesus / messiah like figure, with nurgle as the archetypal God. It not really a rivalry but rather purposefull chaos, cos the infighting between them only serves to further the overall spread of chaos and disease.

Arch Plaguelord Nurglitch did die, he is not the current Arch Plague Lord. The one who became the first on the council was Nurglitch I, but each new arch plaguelord takes on his name as Nurglitch II, III, IV, etc

thank you for these videos, i'm really interested in the lore of the old warhammer world post AOS, seems funner there. I just have some questions that i have yet to find answers sprawling through the various videos I've found. I know that the council seats are gained via direct challenge and duel. but does a clan have to be of particular strength before it is allowed to challenge a seat holder? also since the great horned rat clams one of the seats is that one just empty or is it helped by a grey seer? i've been looking for lore and besides youtube and am having trouble finding any good sources.
Well to have a seat on the current council you have to be a leader of a clan that is powerful in Skaven society. Not necessarily in military strength, but important. For instance a seat is held by a clan that is responsible for the ramshackle navy. This is not because it is some great conquering force, but more because they help ship food and goods throughout the underempire via underground rivers. But, in order to retain a seat you must also touch the sacred pillar of the Horned God, which if you survive shows that you are favored by their deity. Finally, the empty seat is actually managed by the Leader of the Grey Seers effectively giving them two votes as they claim to be the only ones who can interpret his will.

That gets a little complicated. I do kind of go into this in my Horned Rat video, but I believe that the Horned Rat is his own Deity. I don't think he is a lesser aspect of Nurgle any more than he could be Tzeentch. He shares traits of both ruinous powers, but that is what makes him unique. Or course this is all my opinion, but the case could be argued that he could be a front for both of these deities. I choose to believe that the Great Horned One is his own man...well rat, but I wouldn't fault you for believing otherwise.
The Horned Rat and Nurgle are DEFINITEY separate. It comes down to one important difference: Hate.
Nurgle for all his revolting diseases and deadly poxes actually cherishes life. He doesn’t seek to kill anything and everything for simply existing, for life is part of his existence. With life comes death, but that gives way to new life. That’s not to mention he and his daemons and followers being very jovial and optimistic despite their nature.
The Horned Rat’s however sees pestilence and disease as a means for death and killing because those they are unleashed upon are hated by the Skaven. For it’s in their nature to hate everything that is not Skavendom. Of course this ignores the infighting of Skavendom, for every Skaven believes he is the greatest, after all.
Well, shit. Now I have to pick between Pestilens, Moors, and Skryre for my Immortal campaign...
Honestly I think the horned rat and nurgle are the same deity but just worshipped different, much like some say ulfric is khorne by another name
More like Tzeentch. Genetic meddling, mutation, scientific progress, etc. Clan Pestilence are heretics because they worship Nurgle instead.
