    I've never touched nor seen a Warhammer figurine my entire life, but I have become a fan of the franchise because of the video games I've played over the years and recently and more importantly because of RUclipsrs like you who opened up my eyes to just how vast and fascinating the lore is

    the strigoi are my favorite vampire count lords. they are usually the first lord i use blood kisses to awaken and i build an all ghoul, crypt horror and varghulf army for them along with a few vargheists and dire wolves.

      Well that's not exactly true. The Ghoul Kings are there, but they aren't really the same as the Strigoi.They are actually called the "Flesh Eater Courts" and are just regular mortals influenced by madness, rather than ghouls which came about from cannibalism. They have a rather different back story which I'm not going to dwell into, otherwise I would have to write a bit of a novel.

    Interesting from other Strigoi lore videos I was led to believe the Strigoi became monstrous looking from centuries of skulking in caves and catacombs and eating corpses instead of fresh blood

    What exactly are the crypt horrors then? If crypt ghouls are humans then how are the crypt horrors the way they are?

    • @jumbothick2984
      @jumbothick2984  6 лет назад +22

      Crypt horrors are actually an experiment of W’soran the head of the Nechrarchs. They are ghouls that have been fed the blood of a vampire. This doesn’t make them vampires, but transfers some of their properties to them such as increased strength and a healing ability.

    Vampire Counts History:
    NEFERATA:"OK guys, just two rules for now, don't go on blood orgy rampages and don't do anything that may risk bringing Nagash back"
    *Ushoran proceeds to go on blood orgies*
    *Wsoran proceeds to try to contact with Nagash's soul*
    NEFERATA:"Srsly guys?"

    I wonder if the Nosferatu Clan in World of Darkness was inspired by the Strigoi or the opposite?

    • @andreikrivov2271
      @andreikrivov2271 5 лет назад +8

      Technically Warhammer was there first, but the Nosferatu from Masquerade were loosely based on the 1920's horror film, "Curse of the Nosferatu ". Look it up if you are interested. The main vampire in that is pretty much a Nosferatu from WoD.
      Hope this helps.

    What I love about Warhammer's Vampires is how distinct the bloodlines are and all that implies. Every Bloodline excels at something, but their rather singular focus opens vulnerabilities easily exploited by others, and thus it creates much room for internal conflict and infighting. Take the Strigoi, for example. Their bestial nature would likely lead Lahmian or von Carstein Vampires to underestimate them, viewing them with disdain, which gives the Strigoi much power if left to their own devices. On the other hand, the bestial nature is easily exploited by others. You can likely goad a Strigoi into slaughtering your enemies for you with little more than the promise of flesh and blood galore to gorge themselves on.

    • @DominionSorcerer
      @DominionSorcerer 6 лет назад +7

      Not far from the truth, actually. But it's more a bastardised version of the Blood Kiss; the ghoul is made to drink from the vampire and is thus driven into a fit of rage, where he will just rabidly consume ghouls upon ghouls while repeatedly drinking of the vampire's blood. It's something most vampires see as absolutely abhorrent and disgusting, and only the most desperate of vampires are said to do this.

    Been watching your vampire vidya for Halloween, Jumbo! Great work on one of my favourite races! However, there is one distinction I must argue with you.
    You are ironically both correct and yet incorrect about the source of the vampiric origin. In my personal opinion, the novels are not "canon", but rather someones private interpretation of the Warhammer Lore. With the difference between the Immortal Elixir and Neferata, the underlying difference in the army books was the creation of the elixir was lost with the destruction of Lamia, and Arkhan the Black fleeing. In the army book, the Elixir was given to multiple people, the blood kiss being an "reinterpretation" of the original process, but this didn't create a new kind of vampire, only extend their bloodlines legacy. Each vampire who drank the elixir was different as a person, and thus each bloodline was different and had different effects on the "gets". For example, Luther Harkon is a descendant of Wallach Harkon, a Blood Dragon gone astray. Whereas Strigoi are more difficult to trace from sire to spawn but it's more than likely thet are a more rare bloodline due to the fact to become a Strigoi is...highly extreme.
    While the Neferata angle is interesting it makes less sense to me, because those of any Vampiric bloodline share traits and characteristics of their progenitors. That would mean there truthfully there were no actual bloodlines as they'd all overlap in some manner.
    The Neferata sole lineage descent makes no logical sense.

    It would be cool if a powerful Strigoi subdued some Greenskin tribes, and the superstitious orcs worshipped him as a God.
    This new faction would be Albanian themed as the Striga are from Albanian folklore.

    Why are they hunted by the other Bloodlines?

    • @jumbothick2984
      @jumbothick2984  5 лет назад +11

      They are normally hunted mostly out of necessity, but also because all bloodlines think of themselves as superior to the others. The hunting out of necessity is due to the fact that Strigoi can not pass for human and often draw attention to vampiric activities. So, a Lahmian or Von Carstein may hunt and kill this Strigoi to avoid being discovered by the larger human populace.

    • @tonyclark1922

      @@jumbothick2984 Unless the Strigoi was hibernating in a cave or had nothing to do with the Lahmian or Von Carstein/didn't know anything about them. They usually would leave them alone since the Strigoi are just too strong to kill alone, I think the only two Von Carsteins that could kill a Strigoi is Vlad and Mannfred and for the Lahmians.. Well.. That'd be Neferata.

  • @justinterrell7020
    @justinterrell7020 2 года назад

    Wow. The Strigoi really did leave a solid foundation for the Flesh-Eater Courts to be built on later on. I’m actually sad FEC in AoS don’t have skeletons and zombies in their book as well, having both would have been neat, since now I play both armies separately.
