There are exactly 2 things tied to Mannfred that makes me like him. The universal agreement in Total Warhammer 3 that he is everyone's punching bag in the Southlands battle royale. And that his response to the fake Settra in AoS was "If you were actually Settra I would already be dead". And of course these are good things because Mannfred only deserves pain and suffering
I like the celebration and jubilation that occured when Mannfred left the Empire. For one brief day, there was peace. The states of the Empire ceased power struggles, the Vampires took the day off. The Dwarfs put all grudges on hold for a day, the Wood Elves all got sober, and Brettoniaas a whole partook the Vow of Chill Out Bro for one day. The Greenskins decided today they didn't need to fight, because everyone was winnin' today. Slaanesh bribed the other three chaos gods to not mess up the storm of joy from the old world. For one day, it was not Total War Warhammer. It was Total Joy Peacehammer. Mannfred was gone. Everyone was happy. Volkmar even left to make sure the door didn't hit Mannfred on the way out, such a swell guy. And then, Skarbrand and Settra exchanged handshakes. Tiqtaqto and Queek buried the hatchet-axe yes-yes. Repanse and Wurzhag celebrated over a tall glass of something Wurzag brought. Truly. Mannfred is the bringer of world peace.
Admittedly fake Settra (Katakros) is still pretty awesome in his own right. EDIT: I stand corrected, Mannfred had not been speaking to Katakros, but to some Stormcast named Settrus. That being said I like to imagine that none of the other Mortarchs are particularly fond of Mannfred, Katakros included.

Absolutely not "love him" but "like the fact there is a character like that in a setting bc he makes it more interesting that way". I have nothing but disdain for Erebus and I want to see him die in the most painful and yet unassuming way possible, like being taken captive by a random Dark Eldar raiding party to spend the next 10k years as a play thing in some shit hole in Commorragh. That said his actions definitely did make the setting more interesting and I appreciate there being a narrative tool like him to set things into motion. Same with Mannfred. I have an entire head canon on how he was taken a slave by the Dark Elves and spends the rest of his days in some deep dank mine digging up coal.
Erebus is better tho cuz his assholery has always been in service the gods' far-reaching designs, while Mannfred just fucks things up to satiate his ego
There’s just something so funny about a guy so spineless, manipulative, and treacherous that he activity screws over everyone and makes everything worse for everyone, including himself.
There’re two pieces of fan art I love about Mannlet and Nagash, and one of them is Nagash telling him something like “I wonder what you think you did to be here, it means YOU FFFFFFFUCKED UP” and the other being a recreation of Disney Hades’s “I OWN YOU” scene. It’s my head cannon on what my skelly boys see daily in AoS.
My favorite part of the End Times was when Manlet Von Carstop betrayed people at the absolute worst moment and Manstrul Von Carstool went and Manfried Chicken Von Cumstained all over everyone and blew himself up because he even set himself up to be Von Cummed on
I remember seeing Manfred for the first time in Total War Warhammer and knew nothing about him. But my instinctive reaction unironically was “I do not like you already.” Then experienced him in the game and went “Who the fuck likes this man?” Only soon after to learn what he did and yeah who on earth actually likes him?
I didn't know much about Manfred before I started playing TWWH1, and he was my most played character in both the first and the second game, 'cause he's cool and powerful.
I would like to point out with the whole First Vampire War thing, Vlad is arguably correct in the assessment that he would be a better Emperor than anybody else. For one he had a legitimate claim to the position, being the Elector Count of Sylvania by marriage to Isabella, and two the Empire was actually divided at this point in time, with three different Imperial factions claiming to each be the rightful Emperor. There wasn't anyone like Franz or Magnus the Pious to pull the Empire together, so Vlad had both a real claim and was more than likely the most qualified Elector Count at the time to pull the Empire back together. Vlad has never done anything wrong, ever.
@@sipofsunscorchedsarsaparil6052 That's not accurate. Vlad didn't "prey on his subjects". Vlad had his subjects pay a blood tax in lieu of the much more egregious and harsh taxes that the previous rulers of Sylvania, the Von Draks, had the Sylvanian subjects pay. In fact it's hard canon that Vlad was a better and less harsh ruler than the human Von Draks were, despite Vlad being a vampire. Also, Vlad didn't "bring in an eternal night" to Sylvania, Sylvania was already like that when Vlad found it. The Skaven brought the Black Plague to Sylvania which killed 90% of the population, then a rain of Warpstone hit Sylvania attracting even more Skaven. A necromancer named Frederick van Hal used the warpstone to turn all the dead plague victims undead, and ever since then Sylvania was a land of undeath. What Vlad brought was peace and order, since he was an undead powerful enough to control all the undead monsters plaguing the province and keep them from attacking the few living left in Sylvania. Literally nothing about how horrible Sylvania is was Vlad's fault, he only ever improved the province. Even the Von Carstein vampires were protective and peaceful towards their living subjects when Vlad was in control, it was only after Vlad's death that the vampires started having their horrible excesses (which still weren't as bad as what the Von Draks had been doing).
@@libertylemonz7145 Sylvania was a pathetic province before Vlad came, this much is true, and the nobility who lived there was terrible, which is also a fact I will agree on, but vampire rule would turn the rest of the Empire into a large backwater nothing just like Sylvania or Mousillon in Bretonnia. Vampires are stagnation, and as large as Vlad's Empire would be, he could not stop every Konrad type vampire even if he was as benevolent as his fanatics claim. There's more to it then just the ruler, and there's a reason people avoid places where the dead walk, since it's a pathetic existence in squalor.
So we’ve gotten a skaven video, a Gotrek and Felix video, a Nagash video, and now a Mannfred video; still waiting on Thanquol, the greatest skaven and greatest grey seer to ever bless skavendom video.
You can see how Manfreds character was changed during the end times by the lazyness of the writers wanting to take fantasy out back with a shotgun because of low sales. When aos came along and the old lazy writers were fired and replaced by new passionate writers, they tried their best to continue the story of characters by having them be resurrected with no memory of the end times, letting the writers try to improve these characters while keeping key personality traits. Basically, glueing a vase that was dropped on the floor.
It’s more akin to running said vase over with a steamroller and then trying to take a hot glue gun to the dust. You’ll get a shape, certainly, but that vase is fucking gone-diddly-on
Literally could have waited about a minute for the ritual to end. No instead he realizes everyone hates him, he will never become the power he wants to be.... so the entire world should die for it. Archeaon definetly saw the future with his third eye and knew telling Mannfred to piss off would end this way.
As a fan of Golden Boi Gelt, I make it a mission to beat Mannfred senselessly every game I have, even if I'm nowhere near him. He will choke on gold for all of eternity.
Reminder that as a human you have better living conditions and chance for upwards mobility living under some of the vampire lords than under Brettonia.
This video might be the funniest you’ve made. The Nail Gun reference and “Mr president there’s been a second vampire resurrection ritual” both made me laugh out loud
If you have any common sense, YES!!! Starscream is basically the garage sale version of Megatron. He has all of the ego and none of the actual talent or skill to get anything done. At least Mannfred has the skill and talent to be a threat. He's not a major threat, but still a threat.
Starsceam's only good trait is his riz. He's basically a cocky salesman with a laser gun. Even when he makes smart plays he focuses too much on the win to consider the consequences of failure, then he does. He's the villain you love to hate. >Megatron sneezes< S: "I AM THE NEW LEADER NOW!" M: "You're an idiot, Starscream."
Even if he didn't need to worry about the sun annihilating him, whispering of his master's "weakness" to someone who then gets someone else to act on it grants him the potential for an alibi if things go south. After all, if he fumbled his roll to pickpocket, he was going to be forced to fight his boss head on, which he was trying so very hard to avoid.
Manfred is actually the reason I got into all this stuff. I watched his trailer for the first Warhammer Total war game, and loved his faction, instantly. I love him, because of how campy he can be. I really love the idea of vampires raising the dead, to fight the holy roman empire. No, they are no longer my favorite faction, but they will always hold a place in my heart. The real favorite is Skaven, by the way. If you were interested.

Mannfred von Carstein’s boss: Gets shot in the knee. Mannfred von Cartein: “[Insert name here] HAS FALLEN! I, MANNFRED VON CARSTEIN AM NOW YOUR LEADER!! VILLAINS, FOLLOW ME!!!”
A possible character arc for Mannfred is somehow leaving Nagash and forming/joining an independent faction of undead and mortals with Vlad and Isabella as the leaders of said faction. Hell throw in my boy Gashnag the black prince and that would be a faction I would spend lots of money on.
My idea is a bit different: Sigmar should revive Morr and have him take half of everything Nagash has, and Morr then brings Vlad and Isabella back to be the leaders of his half of the Soulblight Gravelords, while Mannfred and Neferata are left with Nagash.
When he said the “nail gun ultimate attack” I instantly said “hell zone grenade”. Dbza lives forever. Also I think Vlad and Isabella should come back as a more neutral dead faction or even as an order aligned death faction. That would also give an option for Felix to come back since. Maybe as a some form of wight or preserved dead faction with polished armor and defined ranks.
@@bluemobster0023I’ve heard that too but I don’t think it was confirmed. I mean it’s good to get a power boost but it be bad to have him loose his memories of all there adventures. I mean it might be a cool story to see him be sent by Sigmar to watch gotrek but I like to think he deserves something special rather than just another stormcast.
Sigmar revives Morr, who swipes the not-complete-bastards half of Nagash’s stuff and brings back Vlad and Isabella to be the King and Queen of his half of the Soulblight Gravelords.
One positive thing about Mannfred: he hates Bretonnia. During one of his quest battles in Total Warhammer he gives a speech about how backwards and despicable they are. You know something is wrong when even a millennia-old vampire says you're too old fashioned.
Well that's understandable. Manny despite being asswipe for life he meet imperials and they fighting with cannons and guns and their army is more proffesional than of Britonnias army clinging on peasantry and cavalry.
Even if it's about Manny Fresh, I'm always happy about more Vampire Counts content. My beloved bloodsuckers in desperate need of new DLC to finish their faction in Total War. Hoping to see Ushoran and the Strigoi covered eventually, now that he's rising to prominence again.
I like to believe the Lahmian origin story of Mannfred because I find it very funny, since his existence proves the Lahmians right. From what I’ve read of Gotrek and Felix, one of the main reasons that the Lahmains are a matriarchy is that when men get vampiric powers, their attempts to amass power are always way too obvious, and it gets every vampire in the vicinity killed, along with thousands or millions of civilians that could’ve been harvested more systematically. And Mannfred’s entire existence proves Lahmians right, vampires like him are why they treat men as 2nd class citizens.
Why lahmians hate men? From Neffies view point every man she has ever relied on has betrayed her Its not just Vampire men, its Men in general she thinks are bad because they always will seek more power and while there is Male Lahmians (Bloodline - also extremely rare) there is no Male Lahmians (Sisterhood) The first male Lahmian Neferate trusted, betrayed her . Also its not that Lahmians hate men, in fact they do not , buts its more like they just do not trust them .
I've never played warhammer but I love the lore and have read the majority of the books. I was looking for more info about Gotrek and Felix when I came across this channel. It's was down the rabbit hole from there. Watched all the videos, some many times over. I love the effort placed in making these videos; and the humour. PnW, you've cheered me up countless times during this rough period in my life. Thank you. And, keep them coming! ❤
Proof that the Chaos Gods are cruel. They let Manfred live in the first place. Everybody hating Manfred is probably the of the only things everyone can agree on. And the record shows by what he's done to bring about the destruction of everything to the benefit of no one. Martin of Stirland truly balled all over Manfred, as is proper for such a baller Elector Count. But props to him for surviving Gotrek twice, at least he had some good moments.
I've discovered your channel through some mystery (maybe the BPL) and I just gotta say I dig it. You are doing good work, my man, even if your pancreas isn't.
I was introduced to the character in the Hunt for Nagash audio drama and absolutely loved his depiction. He's always just feels on the verge of betraying the Bullhearts and finds their stubborn honor exceedingly annoying, but still tries to fight on their terms as he does view them as allies.
Frustrating because pre-endtimes Manfred was one of my favorite characters. I liked that he was cunning and pragmatic. Realizing he would be doomed to second fiddle to Vlad and couldn't physically overpower Konrad he played the long con really well. And while I know Storm of Chaos has been thoroughly swept under the rug because GW is bad at preplanning, he used guerrilla warfare to eat a full third of Archeon's army and second in command. Manfred *used* to be a badass alongside being a treacherous little snake (also his model was based on Bella Legosi dracula and I just cannot hate on that.)
I like to think that the only reason Nagash brought Manfred back is to remind him that he’s shit for eternity despite all of the people he turns into zombies
Kenjiro Takayanagi was a Japanese inventor who is one of several people which could claim the title of "Inventor of Television". Beforehand, Paul Gottlieb Nipkow developed the Niptow disc which used a rotating disc which was used in a number of so-called Mechanical Televisions. However Niptow Discs had a disadvantage as the resolution was very low and the section of the image that you saw was only a section of the outer radius of the rotating disc, the rotation of which also a notable point of mechanical failure. Mechanical Televisions would see some largely experimental use in the 1920s and 30s, but something better was being devised. In 1926 Kenjiro Takayanagi used a Cathode Ray Tube to form an image on a glass screen of a Kanji character with a resolution of 40 lines. This was a major technical breakthrough but unfortunately Japan was still largely underdeveloped so the implementation of his systems were delayed, similarly the rise of militarism in the 1930s and 40s were not conducive to the development of this new media. Shortly after Kenjiro's breakthrough engineers in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany and the Soviet Union would push forward in the field of Cathode Ray Tube technology, which would become the standard by the mid 1930s. By 1939 there were a few limited TV broadcasts in the US, UK, Japan, Nazi Germany and the USSR, but with the onset of the World Wars development of TV would be put on hold with only the United States continuing to operate even limited TV broadcasts until 1945, though TV would explode as a media post-war. Japan would begin regular broadcasts in 1950.
Sad thing is, Mannfred was originally just the smart von Carstein (well, the smart one of Vlad's progeny anyway). Apart from possibly being aware of the theft of Vlad's ring, he didn't really have any other back-stabbing moments, and was clever enough to wait until the infighting was over before taking over Sylvania while boosting his magical powers to beyond that of most other vampires (In the first Undead army book, there weren't any vampires who held a candle to his spellcasting). In later lore, during the Storm of Chaos campaign (that the End Times eventually made non-canon), he helped save the Empire from Chaos - OK, he was saving it so he could eventually take it for himself, but he still drove off the Chaos armies that were trying to topple the Empire after Archaon's fall. I always thought it was a shame he eventually got turned into the chronic back-stabber that he is now :-(
So funny story about the Carsteins for me was a player of mine in a dnd campaign I ran decided to name his character Vlad Von Carstien and make his backstory quite similar with some differences that made it mesh better with my setting lore. Though I knew nothing about warhammer at the time so 4 months later one of my players drops the bomb on me “Hey you know Vald’s a Warhammer character right?” And now listening to this video it’s fun seeing what things in his backstory line up with what happened in the lore and how the things also were accidentally similar. Also every time a Carstien is brought up in war hammer I giggle a little because of this.
Total Warhammer did Vlad dirty by making him like, a tacked on DLC. It always made Manfred feel like the "Legit" guy to a warhammer baby like me. I loved all his cringy lines about being the true elector.
we had this giant battle when the new plastic kits plua book released back in the day - the whole undead vs the rest shabang - and we all watched a Khemri bone catapult hit new shiny Mannfred model in his Bloodknight unit .... failed "look out, sir", died and his whole army crumbled ... one of my favorite moments looking back playing Warhammer
Leaving a second comment here because I believe it's something that needs to be said about fielding Manfred. Downside: he is apparently the definition of mid for his cost. Upside: if you know the other guy has played since fantasy you know where the big guns are going to be pointed towards turn one if at all possible.
I come back to your videos every once in a month because I still feel sad about end times happening and your videos make me feel better. Coincidentally they also make me sad shortly afterwards because AOS have sailed and end times won’t be retconned unless they decide to make 9th realm in AOS what is unlikely and going back in time won’t fix End Times in any ways. What I am trying to say is, please keep doing Warhammer fantasy lore videos
I mean, I love him as a character. He is such a "good" bad guy that most of the fanbase hates him. And about the End Times... We don't talk about that, that didn't happen.
I like Mannfred. I think he had the potential to be the perfect villain. I think GW did him dirty first by pulling of a deus ex machina with the tome of unbiding and then by making him do shitty decisions. The appeal to Mannfred is that he is the "self made man" of the villains: he does not rely on his power, but makes 4d chess moves like when he matched hus army underground, or when he allied with the Lamians to get fresh intel from all the Empire. He's the intelligent schemer villain that will pull of a jaw dropping move and corner his enemy. The problem is that it's damn hard to make justice to these type or characters and GW writing clearly doesn't seem to have the time or the motivation to make him pull something big and smart or doesn't know how to deal with it when he actually does it.
I would love to see Mannfred get corrupted by Chaos. He hates Nagash, has worked with Chaos in the end times and could make for a more compelling character as a demon prince working for Belakor or something.
Nah it's out of Mannfreds character. Mannfred is a scheme bastard and very cunning and smart despite being a total cunt he have brains to understand what will happen if you turned to Chaos. And he is a power hungry fella he will not pledge loyalty to any god.
I didn’t know much about Mannfred before this video, but now I know why he’s terrible. Makes it better when I vanquish him as Repanse and the Chevaliers de Lyonesse in Immortal Empires.
In the Storm of Chaos Timeline Mannfred actually helped prevent the End Times by attacking the chaos forces reinforcing Archaon. I would say that is some form of irony, but it's really just more logical (if not necessarily better) character writing. Also I prefer his older 6th edition look. If only because I think it suits the arrogant noble theme the von Carsteins have.
i think it was mentioned once in the book bloodborn by gabriella von nachthafen, ulrika magdovas mistress, that the mixture of bloodlines between vampires is possible when they "hold each other to relieve themselves", if they ever get affectionate and needy for some serious emotional support or something.... also: richter kreugar best undead and bf in fantasy
The mixing of bloodlines its 100% a thing Ulrikas mistress mentions it because its a good way to stop your original sire from controlling you , as some vampires have the power to control anyone they have sired by taking the bloodkiss from another bloodline, it stops that It does weaken your original bloodline but you get some of the traits from that bloodline mixed with your original ones Also how a blood kiss is done is depending on the Bloodline and the vampire for example , Lahmians its very touchy feely intimate moment Other bloodlines will view it differently and like stated the vampires personnel preferences too, it would most likely still be very similar to how there bloodline does it with some changes
Ok #1 starscream fan here, very rude of you to compare these 2. When stasrcream jumped in at the last second to stop everyone from saving the universe he had a reason and it worked. He achieved godhood and fucked off to another dimension.

Mannfred is the original Erebus.
We all hate him, and that's why we love him.
Except we dont love him for it

Unfortunately he was a vampire and while he might have been an exception every other vampires saw normal humans as slaves at best
Right. The best Emperor would be the one who brings in an eternal night and physically preys on his subjects.

Starsceam's only good trait is his riz. He's basically a cocky salesman with a laser gun. Even when he makes smart plays he focuses too much on the win to consider the consequences of failure, then he does. He's the villain you love to hate.

Even if he didn't need to worry about the sun annihilating him, whispering of his master's "weakness" to someone who then gets someone else to act on it grants him the potential for an alibi if things go south.

You know something is wrong when even a millennia-old vampire says you're too old fashioned.

fcking end times...
You really make lore history come alive and its inspiring
From Neffies view point every man she has ever relied on has betrayed her
Its not just Vampire men, its Men in general she thinks are bad because they always will seek more power
and while there is Male Lahmians (Bloodline - also extremely rare) there is no Male Lahmians (Sisterhood)
The first male Lahmian Neferate trusted, betrayed her .

Finally Pancreas ignoring all other factions to give Vampires a turn
He is indeed "The Worst". And all my favorites are Chaos bastards.
I was introduced to the character in the Hunt for Nagash audio drama and absolutely loved his depiction. He's always just feels on the verge of betraying the Bullhearts and finds their stubborn honor exceedingly annoying, but still tries to fight on their terms as he does view them as allies.
End Times ruined Manfred as much as it did the world.
Nothing says a bad day then waking up in a Gotrek and Felix story.
I think comparing this schmo to Starscream is unfair. Starscream is actually likeable. Mannfred is just a schmo.
I always thought it was a shame he eventually got turned into the chronic back-stabber that he is now :-(
Even the ‘Honsou did nothing wrong’ folks think Mannfred was a douche.
I have to say I do appreciate when a promo is just smooth af. Nobody ever comments on it but it takes talent and you clearly have it
So funny story about the Carsteins for me was a player of mine in a dnd campaign I ran decided to name his character Vlad Von Carstien and make his backstory quite similar with some differences that made it mesh better with my setting lore. Though I knew nothing about warhammer at the time so 4 months later one of my players drops the bomb on me “Hey you know Vald’s a Warhammer character right?”
And now listening to this video it’s fun seeing what things in his backstory line up with what happened in the lore and how the things also were accidentally similar.
Also every time a Carstien is brought up in war hammer I giggle a little because of this.
Also glaring difference between my Mannfreed and this one was 1. He was remorseful for his actions and 2. He has hair

So if Mannfred is Starscream, does that make Nagash Megatron then?? I can now hear Frank Welker voicing Nagash now...
In AoS Megatron is Nagash In fantasy it's Vlad.
Thanks for recording some lines despite being sick. That was very *nodle* of you. 😊

Nah it's out of Mannfreds character. Mannfred is a scheme bastard and very cunning and smart despite being a total cunt he have brains to understand what will happen if you turned to Chaos. And he is a power hungry fella he will not pledge loyalty to any god.

I still laughing at him when he say that. It's I don't know Sigvald level egomania.
Mannfred really is the most Skaven like character in the setting with... the Skaven
Don't compare mannfred and starscream. Are they evil assholes, YES. But even starscream wouldn't doom his world or fully betray megatron.
i think it was mentioned once in the book bloodborn by gabriella von nachthafen, ulrika magdovas mistress, that the mixture of bloodlines between vampires is possible when they "hold each other to relieve themselves", if they ever get affectionate and needy for some serious emotional support or something....
also: richter kreugar best undead and bf in fantasy
The mixing of bloodlines its 100% a thing
Ulrikas mistress mentions it because its a good way to stop your original sire from controlling you , as some vampires have the power to control anyone they have sired by taking the bloodkiss from another bloodline, it stops that
It does weaken your original bloodline but you get some of the traits from that bloodline mixed with your original ones
Also how a blood kiss is done is depending on the Bloodline and the vampire
for example , Lahmians its very touchy feely intimate moment
Other bloodlines will view it differently and like stated the vampires personnel preferences too, it would most likely still be very similar to how there bloodline does it with some changes
"Nodle" over and over again
