    I was always the weirdest Skaven tabletop player since I'm pretty sure I was the only one who intentionally had small numbers. When friggin High elves have a larger force than a Skaven army we're definitely stuck in the time warp

    Important note: that roman tactic would be abandoned after the Marian reforms, where infantry turned from Hastati/Principes/Triarii to legionaries

    The Skaven are basically fighting WW1 battles compared to everyone else in the setting.

    Wait the skaven killed Nagash? (sort of, they gave a human the ability to kill him) but still that is incredibly impressive.

      Kirk Findlay You’d be surprised at the things they’ve managed to do.
      The funny thing is they accomplished much more than Chaos in the End Times.
      So yeah they basically stole the Everchosens job

      LOL yeah. It's a surface level likeness at best. The Romans didn't use their least experienced troops as arrow fodder. They put them on the front line because that's were they were most effective. If the line in front of you, which is filled with men with years of experience, breaks then what is little you, who's never seen combat before today, going to do? You're probably going to rout with the rest of them.

    Clanrats can have spears or a hand weapon paired with a shield in tabletop 8th ed. No clue how they work in sigmar though.

    romans actually put their most experienced soldiers up front in order to limit casualties. romans were surprisingly averse to military loses.

    • @jorenvanderark3567
      @jorenvanderark3567 4 года назад +8

      Actually no. They put their most inexperienced troops forward to break the line before more experienced soldiers finished them off.
      The most experienced (triarii) where so rarely used that the roman saying for "everything went to shit" was "it has come to the triarii"

    • @akaroth7542
      @akaroth7542 Год назад +2

      Yeah, no. Romans needed to blood in their newbies and had their experienced troops box them in. The way they deployed the formations and auxilia was how they kept casualties down.

    • @UnholyWrath3277
      @UnholyWrath3277 Год назад +2

      The romans did literally both at different times depending on the commander and era being discussed. The tactics and army composition of ceasar was significantly different then a roman army under flavius Aetius or any other late period general. Idk why yall seem to think it was always 1 way or the other
