I love those moments when the world feels small - running into people you know in another place is so fun! I'm glad you guys got to reminisce a little. Ella is yet another beautiful place! That bridge is very cool!
The designer of that bridge was a local by the name of Appuhamy. He had to make it without using steal because the steal was shipped off for the 1st world war. The British were not convinced the bridge was stable enough. Appuhamy was so confident he stood under the bridge when the first train crossed the bridge.
Don't believe that Appuhami Bull. Sh. I have seen many examples of stone railway bridges across Europe. European engineers were building arch bridges and stone railway bridges long before that so called Appuhami's existence. 🤣🤣
So? Nobody said he was the first to build such a bridge? Why is it so unbelievable that a local designed it? Why would such a story exist for this bridge? Why haven’t the historians or the English engineers contradicted the story. Yes, I haven’t seen written evidence for this story myself. But I haven’t seen evidence to the contrary either. So until proven otherwise it’s rational to go by the established version.
Hydropower reservoirs contribute to 50% of the sri lanka's electricity supply these days cuz reservoir are full. . most of solar power in sri lanka come from regular homes people installed solar units in homes and connected it to the main grid and there are wind powers sations in SE and NW of sri lanka. but in dry season 50% comes from hydropower drops .
That's absolutely wild how you can run into someone you know in a random food shack in the middle of nowhere in Sri Lanka. Crazy crazy situation but I love it.
How crazy is that, to run into your mates from Krabi. I believe this world brings certain people together for reasons we don't understand. Call it serendipity or linked karma it's always a beautiful surprise.
And do you know the word serendipity based on sri lanka as well... hundred of years ago..when arab find sri lanka , they called it serendib..which gives you the word serendipity ( a happy accident )
It’s awesome to run into people you know in another country! What a wonderful coincidence ! Thanks for sharing this video and cannot wait to see more 😊
Paddy, I’m sitting in the Qatar Airways La Mourjan lounge in Doha, eating a nice steak, sipping a wonderful red Bordeaux wine, and watching your this latest video of Sri Lanka, when one of the wait staff comes over, and with a big smile on his face says, “you’re watch about Sir Lanka.” I say “yes, are you from SL?” He says “yes, I’m from Kandy.” I tell him about you, and the electric tuk-tuk, and he’s excited to hear about it. I tell him he has to check out your videos. He and I have a nice conver and connection, as a result of your video! ❤️
Loving Sri Lanka Paddy. Thanks again for another great video and really pleased you met old friends (I remember you meeting them in Krabi)...shows what a small world we live in 😉👍
now i would be really curious about how travels changed after the pandemic.. i have been traveling before and during, not so much after but from what i see on social media it´s quite packed at certain places... so please if you find the time... share your perpective :) and enjoy sri lanka
Hiya Paddy. Great advice. About the train. And top up. So happy your team won. Beautiful views. Gorgeous bridge. Lovely to bump into friends. Gorgeous views. Beautiful. Amazing drone footage. Well deserved, beer. Nice ending. Great video.
The E-TukTuk seems to be PREFECT for local commutes, which is what 99% of tuktuks are used for! Your pushing it to its limits going into-township! This is a WIN for this concept!!! Well done to manufactures were confident to let you push it to limits!!
Love you and the video, you are a cool guy, I really enjoyed it. Lucky you away from winter in the Uk, I’m Sri Lankan origin, brought up Uk 🇬🇧 and never been Ella, it’s shame.
Forgive me if you have said this in a previous video, this is my first time watching this series. But, how long does it take to charge your Tuk tuk? thanks.
So nice to see. I am on my first big trip since the mask days are over. And I feel so much has changed. I started in Singapore and now in Malaysia and it feels like there are no more solo travellers. Did I just have a bad start or is it couple and insta people only these days? I didn’t get the old hostel vibe yet
Travelling is nothing like it was in the past. All about taking pictures for social media today. I still remember my first backpacker trip to Thailand when I was 18 years old in 2008. It`s nothing today like it was back then. Smartphones changed everything
I liked the helmet you wore in Vietnam. So good!. I love your work. (and envy you). I'm moving to Pattaya in January 2024 finally after twenty-odd trips to the Land of Smiles. I spent a month traveling from south to north Vietnam but did not go north beyond the Capital. Next year I plan a car trip with my partner who is Thai. A bike would be great for me but very uncomfortable for two. (even my BMW Dakkar) I have no idea if we can take her new Landcruiser or whether we will have to hire a car. Any ideas regarding this! Also, your helmet seems to be an option for me in Thailand. Any negatives?. I currently have a Shoei RJ Platinum (for highway use) and a HarleyD half hat in Thailand which is cool, 555. (both ways, for city commuting and short trips but not as safe as the Shoei). Great work. Travel safe!
Fun video Paddy. Like you said electric powered or gasoline. Both use oil to make power , hopefully they will get clean energy soon to make electricity. Good luck in Antarctica don't get eaten by a polar bear.
i missed any sense of regret on this one. there was only the setting in front of the historic bridge, lots of people hanging around and an unexpected packed train passing through. i sense those are not your favorite moments milling around with a crowd. It certainly challenges your personal approach with your viewers, that is one of your special talents, sharing intimate moments.
I am not surprised..He seems so tired..Even for sri lankans travelling by a three wheel is really exhausting..Three wheels are for short distant travels..
When I was Sri Lanka a few years ago one of the staff in the tea plantation told me the British still own some of the plantations and land they stole !
Been supporting your channel for almost two years, gotta say if you actually wanna grow, gotta stop clickbaiting all the time like you have been recently, and maybe take a break man, cause this sri lanka trip and borneo trip have both been shit to watch mate
Visit ella many times in last starting 2000 when it was not spoiled by tourists and these you tubers putting a camera in peoples faces . Best to avoid anywhere these RUclipsrs are

It`s not middle of nowhere. It`s a tourist hotspot.
It does happen over the years of travel I have cross paths with people that I know from somewhere else several times.
Loving this series on Sri Lanka. Thanks for sharing :)

It’s a train for tourists. Local and foreign. Passengers are allowed in only by reservation according to seating capacity.

Why would couples and heavy smartphone users cramp your travel experience?
@@slacktide_angler they don’t. They just seem to be less interested in connecting. Which is nice for a solo Traveler

Paddy, there are bee hives under it. People have been stung, including youtubers and tourists.
Welcome to Sri Lanka

Hey Paddy i want to request you to climb the Adams Peak from Rathnapura entrance…. Good for the body…
If Paddy does that, he won’t come back to Sri Lanka 😂
Loved Ella and especially the train ride to there

Sri Lanka produces 50-70% of electricity from renewable sources.
Good
❤❤❤
From canada here. Not sure if it is worth flying half way around the world to see a train crossing bridge. 😊
Sri Lanka is worth a trip. The bridge is not that interesting to me either but Sigirya is really special as well as Mihintale.
I feel boring how many watchng this places in youtube 😂
Sound was out of sync 😢
"electric engines" You really are unaware!

What's up with those socks!?
How can you have 188k subscribers and only get 16k views...so only 8.5% of subscribers watch???
Too young dear, but you should have been to Sri lanka in 1980s. That was different.
Sri Lanka definitely can't compare to the Phillipines. Once you leave Manila, the Phillipines was in a league of its own.
Is it OK to talk about the socks? Is it the blood of your enemies?
