Love these kind of tunes. So mournful & shows the trials these people endured. No matter what life threw at them, they overcame so much to still be here today. Their resilience, love of country, respect for their culture, is inspiring these many centuries later. From a massive Irish family in Liverpool. This video is so reminiscent of all the family gatherings we had when I was a child when all the ould fellas would sing their ballads and rebel music. Beautiful 🇮🇪🍀
Looks like a damn good night to me
I imagine everyone in Ireland walks around wearing cool hats and / or singing beautiful ballads
That's exactly what happens
I love all these Irish Ballads, just beautiful...
Nothing like a good carry out, sat around the table, singing, cards and old stories 😂
🇮🇪
Some of the best voices come from the kitchen table over a few pints.
The gentleman smoking the cigarette never exhaled. No cell phones, just a good time with each others company. Very Nice. Greetings from Texas USA. I wish I could have been there.
I love story songs and this one touched my heart. It is especially relevant to me because I live near Coloma California where the California gold rush started in 1849. There are many Celtic crosses and Irish names in the Coloma graveyard.
Hey...that's interesting!! You have a real connection to this song then!!. Thank u for your comment. maybe u could find a gravestone of the name Larkin in the local graveyard. Probably not...but that would be something..wouldn't it?
@@georginalowry5910 Hey there! I know it’s been a few years, but if you’re still wondering there’s a site called “findagrave.com” that will help you in your search. I looked up “Larkin” in California, sorted by oldest death, and found quite a few - some born in Ireland!
This is the most Beautiful Irish thing I've ever seen.
A bittersweet song delivered with a delicious voice . Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from The mountains of Northern , California

I love the songs from irish folk, they always tell you a story...
The Ballad of Jack Larkin
It was in the hungry forties when old Ireland lay in bloom
Thousands sailed from Galway Bay to find a brighter home,
among them were three comrades who were brave and bold and strong
And they came from Dinish Island off the LetterMullen shore.
The streets of Philadelphia they had heard were paves with gold,
but very soon they realized it melted with the snow
the fights of hunger know no bounds as they make a young man groan
so they went to California a hunting for the gold.
They staked a claim beside the hill and commenced to make a hole and started digging in to it some fortunes for to horde,
The promise to their parents the day the left the their home
was to bring it back to Dinish off the LetterMullen shore
McDonough went to town one day to russle up some stores
he was killed by three Bandidos who robbed him of his hope
John Falon and Jack Larkin they wakes him at their home
And they buried him next to his claim on the side amongst the holes
And the mound was patted down and the three Hail Marys said
And they placed a little wooden cross as a marker on his head
Jack Larkin faced and told the east that he swore a mighty roar
It was bloood for blood he'd have revenge or never face at home
That very day Jack went to town with his pistol in his belt
and he went into the tavern where they killed his cousin Pat
He called out the Bandidos and when the fight was o'r
the three of them were lying dead upon the barroom floor
Jack took a bullet in his back and for three long weeks he lay
and then one night a fall and says I'll never see the day
I'll tell my folks in Dinish if you ever make it back
That I got the three Bandidos the got my cousin Pat
he was buried with his cousin in the grave upon the hill
with a marker at his head and feet and the three Hail Marys said
Before the mound was patted down Jack Larkins Mighty soul
Was flown back home to Dinish off the LetterMullen shore
Wish I could hear more from this man, his voice is just lovely and he sung this perfectly.

One of my favorite things when visiting my family in Europe is sitting down, at night after eating, especially outside and someone whipping out a guitar and people just singing, vibing, under the stars. And just. It's such a special moment.
And tomorrow it's back to putting electric lines in a shopping mart on route 22. Beautifully sang brother
Nothing better than the beautiful Irish accent singing a beautiful song.. I'm from Liverpool so can hear the Irish scouse mixture in his voice . Very beautiful , just beautiful. May the Lord look over you and God bless you all. YNWA

This video should have like a billion views. This might be the realest video on youtube.
That was a beautiful song beautifully sung! Thank you for sharing. That really warmed my heart ❤️
Somebody in the room said "that was brilliant", and that it was. What an awesome voice. The continuation of a great tradition.
I love when this happens randomly. Someone's in the mood for singing, the song needs to come out of the soul then and there. Myself being Irish I appreciate this video very much. This man sings beautifully.
Love these kind of tunes. So mournful & shows the trials these people endured. No matter what life threw at them, they overcame so much to still be here today. Their resilience, love of country, respect for their culture, is inspiring these many centuries later. I have only a smalll amount of welsh in my blood, but the kinship I feel, even as an American, well, this just pierces me to my soul!!
...isn't he lovely...can we have more?... All of my Irish relatives are gone. The Tanseys'. They always sang...lovely people.
this song goes deep in my heart, because of its history
Made me wish I was Irish and there with them
Beautiful💚☘️💚
Much love and respect, from Saskachewan Canada.
Me Da, god rest his soul, passed in August this year. He was born in Northern Ireland, Derry to be exact. Emigrated to Canada in 1956.
He would’ve cried, listening to your tune. Peace be with you💚
Bald dude with glasses has to be his father. Guessing she's his mum. Getting drunk with his folks. Love it!!!!
