►I can only use the title Pokemon in battle. No switching at all, HM Pokemon are required.
►No use of items in battle. Potions, TMs, etc. are allowed outside of battle.
►No use of skips/exploits.
►The TMs for Double Team and Curse are banned. As a result, I time runs at Blue and see what a Pokemon needs to make the Red fight consistent without resorting to boring strategies.
►I play on x4 speed and use real time for these runs along with consideration on how the Red fight went.

The Eevee-lutions are an absolute stroke of marketing genius. As a young gamer, I loved trying to get all of them as some weird collectibles kind of a thing.
For sure. I see a lot of talk about why they don't keep making them and I think they stopped at a good time. There's no reason to have 18ish of them, imo.
About why moonlight heals more during sunny day - it's because sunny day is actually called clear sky in japanese, so you'd see the moon better while it's obscured in the other weathers.

It turned out well I just hated how rough it was to get the footage. Real life time was not treating me well and I’m going to retool similar to my gen 1 runs.

When it comes to completing runs and what not, I think one of the most understated elements to this hobby as a whole is that its a lot about perseverance and time put in. Strategy needs to be refined, luck needs to go your way, execution needs to be improved, stuff like that. That creates a bit of a tension when you're trying to create comparisons between different Pokemon that feel fair, and needing to spend time creating content, and doing other stuff with your real life. If I were to go on Twitch and start doing Geodude runs, I would have the freedom to try and cut down the time as much as possible and do the many tens and even hundred of attempts needed to get a really solid time. I could go for the mythical 4% run that I'm looking for with ease. But that's obviously a lot different when consistent video uploads are also expected. So basically, having a run that's a little scuffed isn't going to make me enjoy the content any less.
Umbreon is a cool Pokemon, but it's always going to be held back by its low offensive stats. Defensive strategies just by their very nature are really slow, so defensive Pokemon also tend to be as a result. But being that bulky usually means with a solid strategy you can coast, and Umbreon is just great at that.
P.S. The frustration is real. I've done some speedrunning in the past (and I want to get back into it tbh) and one time I had a pretty decent run and I managed to finagle my way to getting stuck between two static encounters I couldn't beat on a bridge and the run was over, and it came in about two hours into a three hour run too. It always feels bad.
For sure. I'm down for a speedrun and love watching them but bad luck always feels bad. I think the Parasect race is what makes me just want to do a few runs and get the best result I can do avoid wasting time and to give each Pokemon the same amount of refinement. Mapping out the perfect run, being in the lead of a big race on a big channel, and having it swept away with a crit from Alakazam while someone else gets all the comments and glory for essentially only winning because Alakazam rolled a 20 is just stupid lol. Not sure if you are in the know about all that but everything to the side, the build up to that one person being this hidden legend revealed late that steamrolled the competition was a massive blunder on the telling of events.

It is what it is! I won the next one, likely won't ever enter another one lol.
That was honestly a better time than I was expecting for a tank.
It could have been a little better but this run just wouldn’t cooperate. I think we’ll see an overhaul to the metrics and retool a little bit.

Absolutely love the updates to held items. The bucket and burger are absolutely perfect. Kinda makes me want to see a squirtle run just to see Squirtle Squad glasses again lol.
I'm not sure we'll ever see pre-evolved Pokemon in gen 2 but maybe I'll see what I can do for the gen 1 run.

in the past i've said alakazam was my 2nd favorite mon, first of all it has dropped and second, don't feel bad about roasting it, the main reason i like alakazam is because of how much it aces everything in gen 1 (except brock in a solo run) so it deserves the roast. Also, sunny day in japenese is just "clear sky" which is why it works on moonlight.
In red and blue it blitzes Brock too! I also think it’s top tier in gen 2 because it gets infinitely more coverage!
Didn't know that was a berry, thought he just had swagger. The extra effort you put in for the transitions and such are super clean though.
Also this really upends my "Espeon that knows bite" strategy for rolling through Gen 2 but I never played Crystal and dunno if the movesets still line up
Oh yea. I have no idea how to implement the berry other than just have it on a necklace or chain lol. Glad you enjoy the editing. It's something I've put a little extra work into refining over the last few months. I think Eevee gets bite but I'm not sure on most learnsets until I'm researching before I blind run them.

Yea there are a few bangers on there I had to mix in.
If you think about it, if you rearrange the letters in Real One and switch some letters out and take out the space, it spells Umbreon
If you take out letters and add letters to any word it can be any other word lmao.

Umbreon and Vaporeon are my favourite eeveelutions. Not the best time but still solid performance after a few rocks on the road.
For sure. I like Umbreon and Flareon myself. Flareon is sneakily tied for the second highest attack stat in gen 1 lol.

I'd say those resets and the extra pokecenter visit are pretty inconsequential to the overall score, so I wouldn't stress it much. They certainly aren't in the same league as losing a race on the last battle to an unlucky crit.
Very true. The only thing that bothered me about the whole Alakazam crit was the way the video was framed.

Nice. It’s a pretty significant run because of what it got me to realize about why I wasn’t enjoying playing gen 2 as much as I should so it was important going forward. Next gen 2 run will have some changes!

Huh I usually thought HP: Ice was the play for lance the harder gyms and then keep sand-attack for Jasmine's Steelix since Iron Tail has pretty bad accuracy. But that was a pretty kick ass time for Umbreon , pretty much spot on with Scott's run from months ago and that is without using Curse play or Rest to clap Red/Blue. Nice job!
For sure. It’s hard to apples to apples compare the runs but under his exact rules it would likely be 135ish time. I’m going to retool my metrics to make it more enjoyable for me the next time!

I like that you avoid moves like Curse and Rest keeps the runs interesting when sometimes those moves can end up like crutches.
Rest would have been the play here or the paralyze cure berry but I didn't remember. Curse on the other hand is like allowing double team in gen 1. Every Pokemon can learn it and 95% of them would rush it as soon as it's available and use it to beat the hardest battles.

One thing I’d like to see is a “theoretical best run” by getting the best splits of all the runs you do before the one you use for the video.
In November I’ll have some split data. Not sure how I’d implement it. There’s a blind run. Then I mess with routing/numbers in a playthrough, take my time, make sure the pieces fit, then I do a couple of runs after that. Crystal is weird and will change for the next run. I’ll likely go to a lower speed because x4 overworld movement feels awful and then I’ll probably switch to in game time. I’ll see what I can do with data

Love the TCG music. Reminds me of opening packs over and over to get what I needed. I remember crazy decks like the legendary Zapdos card being the only Pokemon and just guaranteeing that it'll start out on the board and roasting people with it's ability lol. Good times! Thanks for the support!

With Crystal runs being relatively young you should start doing runs on Crystal Legacy!
I shudder at the thought at deeply learning another game. If I ever do, I'll probably focus on Emerald. I get that it's new and Jrose play it but making an already long game longer combined with the unfamiliarity seems rough.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 it would definitely make the process longer with the balancing changes and harder Kanto. Way to look out for your workflow and mental health! I hadn't even thought of the extra learning ramifications of switching games.
Yea you also have to take into account it can't be used with the randomizer and I don't think the decomp is open sourced. You'd be forced to run the three starters only. It's just designed around team play and that's cool but solo challenges aren't in mind.

2:18 I expect that umbreon will do surprisingly well. Not sure of exact numbers but i expect upper mid pack. Decent speed paired with not absolutely horrible attack and amazing bulk? As well as a decent learn set? With that info I'd rank it high c/low b tier (I know you do things a little different, but in my head).
Also, also, and sorry if this seems spammy. But I predict a final moveset of faint attack, return, shadow ball, and psychic.

For sure. We don't have real ratings just yet but we'll get there one day. That's what makes the challenges great! Everyone does their own thing and figures out their own path through the game. If you watch videos where someone just uses the same rules and strats as other channels, I don't even see the point in watching lol.

Nice video! Btw if anything eevee and all eeveelutions look mostly like foxes except maybe a little bit espeon because of the "cat" tail/s.
The whole point is to look a little like everything. It's the evolution Pokemon and has a little bit of everything in it but dark type and design is very on brand for a black cat. I could dive deeper and say which ones look like what, but black cat. Halloween. That's where it starts and ends for me lol.

I can emphatically say I'm not sure. I've had videos with barely any comments do well and videos with as much comments as a 6 figure view video do bad. I don't think comments factor into the algorithm much tbh.
Personally, the time is less interesting than the challenges each Pokemon creates and how you have to manoeuvre around them.

I've looked into it. I can say it definitely isn't made to solo run. You can't use the randomizer with it and the decomp isn't open source.

It could have been. Speeding up the Rocket segment carries a lot of weight too though and fire wouldn't help there. The turn or two at best you'd save on Jasmine would get gobbled up by the 49 Koffings and Ekans.

In gen 2 Moonlight and morning sun heal the user depending on the time, so if it were night time vs lance it would have been much easier, maybe that's why it worked on the practice runs

I hated Umbreon as a Gen1 kid. That dark mfer humilated my MewTwo 😢

@@GymLeaderMatt1987it was more due to the mindset of "psychic is op and has no weakness" of Gen1. Than gen2 destroys that by introducing dark as immune to psychic.
More importantly, steel just completely walls it as well. Steel was much more problematic to the point they had to nerf it in gen 6.
