actually lost a colony due to this, every one else was incapable of walking when she decided it was time, legit had to watch as the colony died and she wandered off.

then the traitor gets captured, turned into a slave and have his organs removed.
Perhaps he messed with the wrong colony 😬
Nothing goes to waste, lets not forget our human chair that can be made after most organs are removed.

This event needs to seriously be reworked a bit. I once had a colony with a single colonist start, a tough woman with good plant and crafting skills. Wanderer joins, he is male, wimp, but very good construction and, for some reason, shooting skills, wants to go in 20 days. Alright, the colony is big enough for two and I can finally build a second hut without wasting too much time.
He stays a while and builds a good relationship. Eventually, they fall in love, and I am all like "oh, there is no way he will just up and leave when the time comes". 100 relationship in both directions.
And then he betrays me two days before due date.
Now, the difference between tough and wimp should tell you how this went, and sadly, he actually died, so I couldn't even try to imprison him. What was even more frustrating, though, is that my female colonist still liked him and had now the mood debuffs "My lover died", "My friend died", and "colonist died" successively. She went on a mental break every couple days for two months straight.
My proposal would be to ask for a "redemption event", where a guest would confess that he was planning to murder you if you managed to get him on good standings with some people. Especially if they fall in love. Otherwise, it just doesn't make sense.

@@kidmuscle1441 hey do it I say you write the scene and make it happen. Rimworld is full of crazy stories. I have one where a pawn got his spine removed in a fight with another pawn. He spent two years bedridden and finally I "found" a spine and got him walking again. First thing he did was beat the pawn who put him in that bed half to death.

If only we had 'theft' in Rimworld, then these traitors could at least make sense as they got greedy or something.
Imagine, if they pathed to your most valuable item, or a pawn that was all alone... snatch and run.

I had one real early on once, when everyone was living outta 3 rooms, traitor actives in middle of night, she basically got beat down instantly, and then I recruited her. She end up being my engineer, with high crafting and intellect.
Maybe, it was her destiny

I once had a traitor during a Naked Brutality run that was going well, had 4 people and a decent base. Then one of the people I recruited promptly beats the shit out of my starting character's BFF and manages to run away with him after getting a lucky head shot on said starting colonist and blasting out one of his eyes. After that he was never the same, became extremely aggressive and would pick raider-ish gear if allowed (menacing looking coats/dusters, gas mask, etc.). We never found his friend and he never found his sanity.
I used to be a traitor like you, until I took a bullet through the eye.

the first thing I do when I get colonist joins event is unarm them because of how paranoid I am of them being a traitor lol
I've experienced this event two days ago, having no prior knowledge that this can happen. It's quite a story. Here's how it went.
So first, some background. I was playing a single colonist run for a fair few hours, but decided to get some people. First, my colonist, Speedy "Speed" Boy, captured a passersby - a female with the nickname "Nikli" - and recruited her. They got along *very* quickly, becoming lovers after just a day. A week or two pass by, with the two of them living peacefully, slowly building up the colony, as an event pops up, saying that a wanderer wants to join. I agreed and she joined. Her name? Lara.
More time peacefully passes by, with the wanderer becoming friends with the two.
Then, a quest pops up. A fenrir hunt. The reward for a successful hunt? *A goddamn roomba.*
At that moment, I knew it was Speed's destiny to hunt it down. Deeming the two women capable of defending the colony on their own, I sent Speed to hunt it down solo. It only takes two days to get to the hunting site, what's the worst that could happen in those 4 days of absence?
During that time, Nikli, the lover, decided to start a building project, as we had no solid base yet. The two women cleared the area, built the walls, and were happily chartering with each other while laying down the floor tiles.
And then it happened. Lara turned, axe in hand and attacked. Nikli was specialized in ranged combat, so she was in real trouble, made even worse by the fact that she was using a bullpop rifle against a dane axe. Still, she prevailed.
With both of them bleeding and Lara incapacitated, Nikli decided to be merciful. She dragged her to the prison cell even before tending to her own wounds. Which was a fatal mistake. She collapsed on the way to the storage room, on her way to get medicine to treat herself. With both of them bleeding out and Speed still over a day's worth of traveling away, there was no hope for either.
The sight that Speed would be greeted to upon coming home was the body of his dead lover laying in the middle of the colony, with a gash across the back, with blood trailing to the prison, where a dead friend, bruised from a fight, was laid in bed to rest eternally, with more blood tracks leading to a construction site.
The only clue to the events which unfolded being Lara's bloodied dane axe.

That was one of the saddest stories that I have seen in rimworld, damn... Really wonder though if those feelings of friendship and affection were part of a plan or... were they genuine?
Perhaps they were both!
That is always a struggle, not knowing whenever the feelings really were real or just part of the plan.
But for me, as I don't believe that people can ever feel NOTHING, they are real.
Thus tragic for both parties.

But i got a rare case,when this totally unfair thing(Played on responsible mode) happens to be more enjoyable for me,in personal level.
Every traitor I've had was absolutely useless at their job as a traitor. "Everyone is gathered in the same room with my, celebrating the ascension of their leader to the highest rank of psycaster. Now is my time to attack" only for everyone to immediately whip out guns, the psycaster immobilises them, and they get Swiss cheesed in seconds
He came.
Talked and laughed.
Fought fights together.
Took care of him and didn't let him fall.
They drank together.
Played pool, Cards.
They became close.
In this harsh world a moment of beauty.
But on the back of cole's mind. Something was wrong.
Larry wasn't always present. Like there was something.
Always keeping a rifle close.
He can't bear the thought of it, Shooting him?
Everyone else was okay. They were doing well. No one else however really trusted Larry.
But then the banging could be heard in the recreation room.
With a weary face and a yawn. Cole got up. Grabbed his rifle and stepped forward.
Left his room. And opened the door to where the sound came from.
Stepped inside and held up his rifle.
C: "What are you doing Larry"
L: ".....*Sigh* I hoped you would not come"
C: "Stop what you are doing right now"
L: "I can't Cole. I have no choice. Run while you can. You I do not want to kill"
C: "SPEAK TO ME. Why are you doing this. You had nowhere to go. We housed you. I saw you as my best friend. A brother!"
L: "When you have a hostage situation with your loved ones you'll understand. Perhaps...They have already been killed"
He stopped banging and looked at Cole with tired eyes.
L: "The Rim is dangerous Cole. Sometimes to do what you have to do needs to be done. Shoot me if you have to. Or run and let me get my family back"
C: "Lets just settle down and we can think of a plan to save them!"
Larry shakes his head: "i wish that was possible"
Larry rose his own rifle. A bit of sadness covering his face. Muttering 'sorry' under his breath.
Before a shot was launched. Cole struck the head with the hilt of the rifle and knocked Larry out.
Or was he dead? He doesn't know.

Absolutely brutal event, My poor researcher almost _married_ her.. then she turned traitor, and caught a volley of gunfire before i could stop them. It's always the friendliest ones
Alright this is concerning.
A wanderer joined my Naked Brutality playthrough, like they usually do. And because they are also usually the traitors, I dont let them have guns due to how lethal they are in CE and my main pawn doesnt have any fighting skills. I was on the edge about her for a while until they became lovers and eventually arranged a marriage that is up soon.
I thought, "No way she will betray the colony by then, right?"
Anyway my paranoia is back

@@kevinhenrique4256 Nope. In fact, another wandered had joined it that just so happened to be her sister. The two had found their lovers, and the first one is already married.
Throughout the playthrough, I had 4 wanderers join, and none of them were traitors. Cant wait to start another playthrough and get backstabbed when I least expect it again.

I say by far one of the funniest moments I've had with something like that. A band of 11 "refugees wanted to spend 20 some odd days with me. I let it happen day one used them as cannon fodder to attack a mech hive that I had been shelling for days off and on due to supply. It all works out great only one of em died but hell it could have been worse. But right there 5 days from them leaving they all turncoat on me. Well being as my believes revolved around using warhammers like God gave them too ya and being fully covered head to toe in marine armor. It truly didn't go any other way but my way.
This is the way.
I only once had a traitor so far and the entire thing was so super suspicious from the start that she was the only person I didn't give a weapon to.
Lets just say her unarmed ambush at lunchtime against 8 people, 3 of which were highly trained killers didn't last for long.
I had a group of four join my colony and had them inside of a mountain, and tried to make the comfortable enough to join- one did, the other three did not, I had already moved the one into their own room.
The other three decided it was time and started lighting fire to the room. Now, this wouldn't typically be bad, but the furniture was wood, and they had destroyed the passive cooler, and the door was stone. I locked the door and they all cooked inside the room, ashes and all.

Ya, Rim changes a person forever, in my case, it reduced my math skills cause I played it for hours
Was playong with a Rimworld of Magic, amd the traitor decided it was a good time to reveal herself near my necromancer who had 5 reanimated thrumbos with him at all times.
She was already dead when the game auto-paused.
But since I had a necromancer it was like nothing ever happened.
I love the idea of traitors in the game but I wish they were a bit more dangerous, unless you blindly trust everyone who joins and give them all the best stuff it's just like "Yeeharr I'm the traitor, let me take on your Marine Armour Colonists with Charge Rifles using my deadly deadly double barrel shotgun!"
It would be cool if they were smart and could blow up your power grid or something before revealing themselves, maybe they could destroy random stuff and you could notice them doing it ahead of time.
Honestly in all my 2000 or so hours I don't think I've ever had a traitor pose the slightest threat what so ever, they're just lame suiciders I end up recruiting after they kick a chair a couple times.
Currently they are a part of a mod, If they were part of the Vanilla game, I think the mechanics would be much better.
I think If this event happens in the early game, it is truly dangerous
An actual impostor-esque traitor is a fun idea, where they quietly sabotage the colony without anything notifying you of it, you just notice a sliced up power cable or all of your food has rotted away because the freezer was broken, and you have no idea who did it (especially if someone who joined the colony a lot earlier started to sabotage it exactly when someone new joined to make them suspicious). This could also explain the "prisoners somehow have a key to their cell now" event.
Could even do shit like make sure your turrets are suddenly shut off when a raid of their true faction shows up, and that's when they turn hostile.
@@adronius147 Yeah that would be incredible, you would know you have a traitor...but not who.
Maybe there could be a mechanic where you can accuse someone of being a traitor but if you get it wrong everyone gets a major mood debuff, like -30 so you really have to be careful figuring it out.
It's definitely doable anyway, most of it at least. In the AvP mod you have raids where the power gets turned off and Xenomorphs show up silently so there's lots of ways modders can play around with existing mechanics to make things work.
@@mrcheesemunch There's also the mime from Alpha Animals, a parasitic pawn that joins your colony and appears to be a completely regular pawn, but has an increased hunger rate, and as soon as it begins starving it transforms into its true form and becomes hostile, hunting colonists. As long as you have food, you can harbor a mime in your colony for years on end without realizing what it is. Hell, you may even win the game and get it off planet without ever knowing.
Most of my traitors really fuck up their timing. When all my fighters are incapable or heavily wounded they stay. But after they got injured and need medical treatment immediately they decide their time has come and start wandering around my base unarmed and with 20% movementspeed just to collapse by themselves.
I like to imagine it as them being afraid of dying before carrying out the mission, so they desperately try to cause as much damage as they can in a dying delusion.
Can’t forgive the fact they don’t betray when it’s the perfect condition, but it could explain the betrayal in their last moments.

Any "wanderer" that joins my colony is instantly stripped of all weapons and armor, given a wooden chestplate and a shitty wooden club.
I use them exclusively as hauling slaves and medevac until I am absolutely certain they aren't traitors, and I house them with the prisoners untik they prove trustworthy.
aren't they 99 out of 100 times a traitor. Never saw a single friendly wanderer so far.
It happened to my heavy armored, plasma sword-wielding, tough, cyborg, 20 melee, and literal brother of the naked brutality starting character.

The best way to mend the friendship at that point is a healthy dose of nerve staples. :)
imagine the situation though without the notification from the colonists perspective.

And your answer to that is a swift execution.

Larry: I've done before Cole, I've cheated so many, betrayed friends, hurt those who trusted me. Its how it is out on the rim Cole....we both knew this...luciferium isn't cheap. I'm not doing this because I want to...I'm doing it because I have to. You almost changed me...if only circumstances would have been different.

I ended up having an event where 4 wanderers joined my colony at once, only temporarily they said.
Two of them ended up liking my colony, so they decided to join for good, and i was excited because i thought that their friends would do the same...
But like a couple of days later, the two betrayed the colony, and the two of them died during the battle agaisnt my colony
I was happy two of them switched sides, but also sad that i couldn't recruit the other two, specially knowing that the four were meant to be traitor, but got perfectly split in two groups when the moment of truth arrived
It's always nice to have cannibal that can show traitors that they're chose wrong colony.

I had a traitor once, but fortunately he was inside of the kitchen fridge, i just locked him inside and turned all the 4 AC to the lowest temperature.
One time I had a betrayal from a group of refugees, including one who appeared, dated, and then married one of my colonists before murdering him in his sleep as the betrayal started and then had a mental break down because her husband was dead
that really sad moment, and their last fight were like "and let the destiny decide who will survive our fight", and this factor what this fight was an a melee making it even more sad

did a brutal naked and alone start or whatever it's called, and my lone colonist kept gaining a second person and then losing them, and finally got an event like this with two people, and she actually ended up engaged to one of them, before they both betrayed her. She was blind and incapable of violence, so she ran away from them, and her fiance and her best friend both died on traps she had constructed. Tragic stuff :/
First time I experienced a traitor I was devastated cause they had become my fav colonist and speed married my other fav colonist.....and then they were in bed and suddenly I get the notification.....and he attacks his partner before setting the base on fire and flat out beheading another colonist before I managed to knock them down and imprison them......most of the base burnt up and his partner lost a leg and an eye....but the leftovers of the colony recruited his ass but he was never allowed a weapon again considering what he did with a simply poor quality knife.....
But now that he is truly one of yours, you can use his combat prowess. Talent should never be wasted on the rim

Rimworld is a game so capable of making me emotional when someone use it in well edited videos like this one, now when i'm playing i just swear everyone cuz they die to a fuckin mad rat or a from roof fall in mines

I had a refugee event, 8 colonists joined for a while one of them decided to stay permanently during the stay. I had everyone sleeping in a giant barracks/rec room/dining room. At night they attacked. They killed 3 colonists, burned and destroyed the entire main section of the base and captured my other 6 colonists and ran. Fortunately I had loads of traps set up so they were all taken out and I was able to save 5/6 of the remaining colonists with the man in black. Took me years to fully rebuild.
This is better drama than all the romcoms ive ever watched

In my playthrough, I had wanderers join my colony and they were the main manpower in my colony but I'm the paranoid type so I installed turrets with stun guns around the base just in case they turned. 4 in-game days later, they turned but was conviently in range with my turrets so they were captured pretty fast. I downloaded some war crime mods to punish these traitors, lets just say they wont be walking, grabbing stuff, and talking anytime soon. I also sewed their eyelids together so thats that.😉
And some Imperial envoys also wanted to buy them from me for a lot of money so it was not a waste.

That just happened to me, a 3 pawn colony, and a wanderer. I forbid all armor and guns so he wouldn't equip anything dangerous. He found shield belt somewhere and turned to be a traitor. I didnt had any melee skill on the colony, and ha had 8, one of my pawns were incapable of violence. He beat the leg of my main pawn off, slapped the incapable of violence and almost knocked the remaining pawn. For a miracle he died at the last moment. I'm keeping his body to resurrect w a mech serum just to harvest his organs cause he got me so mad lol. Is like he knew I was about to sell him or whatever

I had a large group of beggars turn on me after asking for some ridiculous amount of silver I wouldn't have given them even if I had it, right in between two rows of turrets. They got shredded up and tried to run away...through my field of spike traps. Last man through made it right up to the edge of the map, collapsed and bled out.
This had better plot than most movies nowadays
