- When David Allen wrote, “Getting Things Done,” he thought the concepts were so easy to understand and follow that everyone would understand them and implement its principles. Many years later some people struggle with implementing GTD. He talks about that with Dave Edwards.

Some people find GTD too complicated, with so many lists..As for me, I think we should follow the basics of the method and adapt them to our reality..Thats all!
Sergio - Not only do I agree, but I think that is what David Allen said in one of my recent conversations with him.

Struggling with list overload. I have so many things on my lists that I start feeling that without some absolute priority of getting things done that I won’t make progress in big areas. There are too many options all at once with GTD. That’s the things that has me stuck. I feel like my brain needs to be given a specific order of priority of key things to do in a day. GTD doesn’t seem to incorporate that. Maybe if I “let go” and just did the system I’d find that the important things are getting done? I’m guessing it works that way for the faithful or no one would use it.
Scott - David Allen and I addressed this subject in a recent interview. I hope you find this helpful. ruclips.net/video/Csh8Asy2Atg/видео.html

Love the GTD stuff
Steve - Glad you enjoy it. I am planning a weekly series on GTD. Please subscribe so you won't miss any of them.

Lol, I'm an ex-Catholic Jew and he nailed it there at the end. I also think it is harder if you have ADHD and if you really love lots of things. The weekly review and the start up are not sparkly, and not getting pulled by valid intrusions in the moment are harder in the cases. But getting GTD into your bones in this case would also be a godsend. I would say parts are internalized for me, but not all of it.
Please keep these conversations going. I love your videos!
Thanks TM. More coming...in fact I just recorded another chat with David. Please subscribe.

Expanding on the word "control" at the end of the talk.
I think the underlying issue (of why someone either takes on GTD or doesn't) is: Taking complete responsibility for my life means specifically deciding on the actual perspectives (Horizon of Focus) that I want to align my daily life with, and ALSO being in full "control" of each action and project towards that perspective.
How can you tell when someone likely will not align with GTD principles? When they are primarily driven by the "meaning" of everything; and importantly, everyone around them is sucked into their story and "meaning". At the end of listening to the story, the non-GTD'r is fed, and everyone else is still hungry.
Paul - Good ideas.

Fascinating. I'd love more detail about how you see the last paragraph play out. You may be onto something.
I have ADHD symptoms. Tested but not yet diagnosed. I want to use GTD sooooo bad, but i get distracted sooo easy. Still working at it. Its me not the system. BUT please keep us ADHDers in mind as you look toward the third rewrite later on. Maybe some hacks would help us use it easier. THANKS !!!
Teresa - While I am not familiar with how to work with ADHD, I do know how to implement GTD so that it works for most people. Please subscribe and keep watching.

Is the success of implementing GTD possibly dependent on personality and behaviour ?
Excellent question. I will ask David for his thoughts on a future episode.
